Why wasn't it part of the shootout?

I wonder how this reel would have scored in your 2023 Tarpon / Big Game shoot out? I'm thinking middle of the pack?

I’m guessing it would have been higher, to the extent Ben started the video with “…is one of the best saltwater reels…”

I noticed ya'll listed the max drag on the sage spectrum max review. Did you test the max drag on this reel?

I think any sealed reel over time will leak as there will be a rubber ring acting as the seal and over time it will decay

You're correct. No differently than your roof will eventually leak, over time. That's why (in my opinion) the waterproof pitch isn't accurate.

Ok, who really uses 20lbs dacron for anything in 2021? What I'm more interested about is how much of 0.35mm braid you can fit there, which is what I'd choose for 7-8wt backing. Drag force numbers would be interesting. "A ton" hardly tells anything, Vision Predator 8-9 reel was sold with "A ton" of drag which turned out to be about 4lbs.

Love 20 pound dacron, particularly for 8 line weight and lower outfits. Much more comfortable handling than GSP.
And, if you are familiar with Lamson Litespeed and its drags, a 'ton' is plenty for the quarry this size reel will be asked to whup.

This guy uses 20lb dacron, as do many people out there.

Pretty much everyone who values their fingers. After 20 years of conventional fishing (and feeling the need to be on the cutting edge of tech) when I switched over to Fly I thought using Dacron was absurd and antiquated. The truth is on an 8 weight reel if you need more than 200 yds of Dacron, you've either hooked into a fish your rod likely can't work, or you don't understand how to properly play a fish. This goes the same for the large reels carrying 300/30. I've hooked into HUGE tarpon, never had one take more than about 250, albeit from a skiff. In the 7-9 200 is more than enough, I caught a 45lb Jack that made like 9 runs, but they were all in the 75-120 yd range. Fishing "Gelspun" AKA Spectra is marketing nonsense. Go ahead, cut your Damn fingers off when a fish changes direction and your backing loops around your index finger, go for it.

The listing with 20 pound Dacron is for reference. Some may or may not use Dacron, but the other backing material they use often is measured against 20 pound Dacron.
