Thanks for the clear explanation, really saved my day!
I'm wondering how you knew you had to use CC #102. The description in the TimeLine User Manual for this CC number is "Bypass". I tried fiddling around with CC #82 ("Footswitch B" according to the User Manual), but that didn't result in the desired toggle on/off effect. With CC #102, everything works smoothly.
    Great video!

Hi Sam, thanks for watching. That is a good question, yes we want to 'bypass' the selected effect. It isn't really related to which footswitch is selected that is determined by the program change message. All we are doing is saying, whichever patch is on....turn it off, (bypass). I hope that makes sense! All the best, Neil

Excellent Excellent info!!! Your MS-3 videos are the best out there! This is one is so important as I also use a Timeline in conjunction with an MS-3. There are times when I want to create a preset in the MS-3 and not use a Timeline delay but rather use a delay in the MS-3. Can I use this same info to create a patch in the MS-3 that automatically shuts off the timeline as opposed to having to toggle it on and off and assigning it a foot switch number?

Hey Damian, wow thanks for your kind words and thanks for watching. Yes you should be able to do this using and assign but set to CUR NUM rather than one of the NUM footswitches. This will enable to switch it on and off as you switch preset. Let me know how you get on! Hope that helps, All the best, Neil

Thank you very much, I live here in Brazil and I did not find this information in any video, thank you very much ... Does this information also serve for the bigsky friend?

Best wishes to you in Brazil. Thank you for watching, use the same things apply for the Bigsky as well! All the best, Neil

Very cool! I'm looking at buying a Timeline and using my MS-3 with it. How do you determine what preset on Timeline to turn on via MIDI? Thanks!

Awesome stuff man. I'm wanting to be able to tap my fs5u pedal and tap that so it controls the delay on the ms3 but also to control the tempo on my rc300 via midi out. I'm going midi out to bigsky then rc300 but maybe I go rc300 first then send a thru from that to the bigsky?

Hi Robert, thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the idea. Yes you can do this, but the MS3 has to be first in the chain (because it only has midi out). The MS-3 has to send the Midi clock to both the RC300 and the BigSky and these need to be set to midi recieve. I hope that helps, all the best, Neil

I’m wanting to use midi from my MS-3 to mute an FX channel on my Behringer XR18 digital mixer using switch 4 in manual mode. And doing it in manual mode using the assign function, and assigning the source to switch 4 is easy enough. The problem is I need the switch 4 LED to illuminate when the channel is muted, and this is where the trouble starts.
I can assign an LED function to switch 4, and initially the LED usually syncs with the FX channel on the XR18 being muted. But turn the unit off and on and the next time the LED is out of sync, illuminating when the channel is NOT muted. Power it up next time and the LED might be in sync with the channel being muted. It’s inconsistent. I’ve tried switching the LED function from off/on to on/off, that seems to make no difference. I can’t typically see my iPad that I’m using to run our sound while I’m performing, so I need a consistent LED indicator on the MS-3 so I know when the front of house FX are muted. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Hey Scott, Merry Christmas and thanks for watching. That is a very cool set up there, you have given me some ideas for when (if!) we get back out gigging and controlling our digital mixer (I am thinking mix bus mute being the first thing I'd like to control).
Now, your question, that is the tricky bit as there are countless examples I have off bypass settings being out of sync with a indicator light. I am sure there is a way, but I feel it will be a work around in some way or another. Off the top of my head, I think the easiest thing to do is to ensure that both the desk and MS-3 are in an un-bypassed state when you power down. This 'should' mean that they will be in sync when you boot back on again. As there is no Midi In on the MS-3 there is one one way communication.
The next thing to look at is to send a program change to reset the desk, so you have a patch on the MS-2 which is your 'reset' patch) you could just click on this and hopefully assign the midi PC and CC information to change the desk to the state you want when you start. This would mean just one click when you set up.
Sorry I don't have the exact solution, but there is no direct way to do this, as there is only one way communication.
Good luck, let me know how you get on.
      all the best,
      Neil

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! I forgot to mention it is a CC midi command I need to send to mute the FX return channel on the XR18. In this case the FX return channel I want to mute is channel 17, and the CC midi command required to do this on the XR18 is CC# 17 on midi channel 2. CC# 17 midi on channel 1 controls the FX return fader, and with a CC command makes the fader either off... or full blast!
I have also tried using the midi patch function to send a CC message... but I have not been successful. I guess this only works with patches and not in manual mode?? Anyway it’s over my head. Fortunately I have a custom made midi pedal that does only that one function of muting the FX return channel, and it’s red LED is ALWAYS in sync with the channel being muted! And this is what I need I the heat of battle, red means stop, no go, no FX. I was just trying to save some space on my board by eliminating that midi pedal.
It’s too bad the MS-3 does not include this as part of the assign function for midi, that the switch LED could be assigned to either illuminate the LED when the CC command is sent, not sent, or LED off. Thanks again, you really do have the best MS-3 midi demo’s on UA-cam!!

@@scotthughes5520 No worries. It is a bit of a tricky one. The Midi patch function would seem to be the way to go, but yes it only works when you switch patches and not in manual mode. I am sure it must be possible somehow if all you need to do is toggle CC17 on channel 2. The only thing I question is if the MS-3 can know what state it is in to start with, which is your biggest requirement. I will have anotehr play and see if I can figure it out.
      All the best,
      Neil

Hello! Amazing videos... thank you so much for doing these, they are a massive help! I just got one, and am wondering about using it with a Modfactor. The thing I'm wondering about, is lets say I have a patch with a certain modulation effect that I would want for a certain section of a song. How would the next patch I hit turn off that effect from the previous patch?

    • @NeilSpencerBruce
      @NeilSpencerBruce  4 роки тому

Hi there, thanks for watching and your kind words. Glad you found them useful. In your next patch, you just set it up exactly the same. The Midi control message (102) will change the state (toggle) of the patch on the Modfactor. I.e if it is on in one patch, it will turn off the next time it recieves the message. Hope that helps! All the best, Neil

Yu could do this via Midi, and send a CC to bypass the strymon.
