    Hello, awesome videos. The track we are running on does not have the center rails. It has outside rails or walls. Do we still want to try to steer the car left or right or is it better it run it as straight as possible? Also should we lean the front wheel in or out with the rails hitting the outside of the wheel and not the inside? Thanks

      john curcio in my opinion you do the exact opposite you do with a car that is running a center rail track you make the front wheel steer out towards the edge the back wheels you should cut in 1/16 of an inch instead of the steering wheel in the front I would keep this tear down to about one in

      @tateabdon1  5 років тому

      Also I bend the front axle up instead of down allowing the outside edge to ride along the rail

    Great video!! We have two cars. So I tuned both to 2 inches over 4 ft. the COGs are .7 and .8 inches and the .8 has fenders. Glued the .8 COG axels and may tune the .7 prerace then glue as I can run it a couple of times. Any last min tips? Thanks.

      The only thing I can tell you is watch all the videos I have on pinewood derbies every little bit helps if you follow every single tip I almost guarantee you will be in the top three if not winning most races

    You mentioned adding vinyl to the bottom? If I hollow out most the body, I need to add something to cover those spots?

      It matters on the race every little bit helps in matters on who you're racing against but to me it's easy to do and helps the front wraps stay on and does help with some wind resistance that you will get from underneath the car especially if your car is not perfectly level

    Regarding the steering wheel...Have you had to drill out the glue on race day if the car is wobbling on your test? Be curious to hear your story if you have.

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  2 роки тому

      If for some of the reason I have to change done race day usually I can force it enough to get it to change but a lot of times what I'll do is I'll just glue it on race day and use activator to glue it instantly

    Does angling the bottom of the nose of the car up like you have it in your non painted car effect the car in any way at the bottom of the start ramp? Wouldn't the airflow create a lift slowing it down?

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  5 років тому

      We found this to make it start a little faster on tracks that have a manual Starting Gate but you have the auto Starting Gate just pointed and it shouldn't give any advantage to having it pointed up in the front the idea being that the souped-up front gives it a little faster start off the gate also I will be answering your questions on the four wheeled car and the no Center rail in the main comments because is a question I've answered several times and I don't think people can see it every time

    What is the reason to cant the dominant front wheel out instead of in?
    (I think I see now, that lower/inner edge is what is riding the rail for minimum friction)
    Any tips to bend the front axle without a $30 tool? (We’ve drilled the rear holes at a 2.5 degree angle with a jig, just dialing in the front wheel now)

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  Рік тому +1

      If I said again the front wheel out doing I would have been talking about the non-dominant wheel The dominant wheel should be can't it down so the wheel rides in against the rail I apologize if I did not come out of the video if you take two nails and set your nail you're trying to use above the two nails then take a screwdriver and pinned in-between the two nails that is the best way I've seen to do it for no expense it's a little tricky but I think it's doable sorry it's hard to explain

    Since my sons car is already completed. What would be the best way to lighten up the car to put more weight to the rear for the district race?

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  5 років тому

      Tee Bull you can't rule out multiple holes in the front of the car you could do one of her letter cars if possible to cut out the whole front and then cover it with vinyl I think the easiest way to do it just take a drill and and literally drill multiple holes all through the front of the car and then cover the top with vinyl

    My son lost first place in his pack race by 200ths of a second. How can I speed it up for the next round? The car he lost to was a little slimmer and more weighted in the back.

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  5 років тому

      Tee Bull first of all do they allow lightning of Wheels if so that is a must if you watched all five of the speed tip videos and built a car just as I said ladder cars all those kind of things those are all tips that will help win the race are you using graphite or oil if graphite use the derbydad4hire it is the fastest but before you put it on make sure you clean all the axles really well with alcohol the inside of the hubs with alcohol and then spray the nails with pledge just your standard Orange you know wood preserver pledge let it dry completely and then wipe them off after it's been dried then apply your graphite and go through the graphite process going to a Tungsten Carbide weight if you're not already using those and using the squares and getting his load to the bottom of the car as possible will help making sure at least 2 oz of weight behind the back wheels is important

    Shouldnt the dominate wheel be the one that rides the rail?

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  5 років тому

      joshua manypenny yes the dominant wheel should be the one that rides the rail or the one that is touching the other wheel should never touch the track or the rail sorry if that was confusing

      @@tateabdon1 Tate, I have a question about the pinewood pro axle jig, can i use this jig to drill into the stock axle slots? Many rules state the use of the slots. I know you can drill above the slots but I want to drill into the axle slots to stay with in my rules. Thanks, Roger

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  4 роки тому

      @@rogerosborne8624 yes it actually works really well for that just remember this slot that is closest to the end goes in the back and the slot closest to the center goes in the front so the wheel should be farther back from the front

    What about lubricant on wheels like oil?

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  4 роки тому

      If your rules allow oil you definitely want to use it derbydad4hire has a product that is very good and I do recommend following his procedures on how to put it on and how to make it work but keep in mind it's very expensive and illegal in most jurisdictions slash races

    Our pack requires all 4 wheels touching. How should i tune the font wheels. Should i still use bent axles up front? Thanks in advance.

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  4 роки тому +1

      Yes to knit like a three-wheel car then turn the 4th wheel just so it touches ever-so-slightly benefits of bent axles

    • @michaelbur8776
      @michaelbur8776 4 роки тому

      Do i toe in (pointing towards the wheel that barely touches). I should have asked before, sorry.

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  4 роки тому +1

      You always have the car turn in away from the good wheel so if you had the wheel that is steering the car on the right you would have the car turn left because the wheel that is not doing anything and just barely touching can't steer the car
