  • Overall, this was a fun trip! I wish it hadn't rained as much as it did so that we could have spent more time exploring the area and collecting more fossils. It's a good spot that we wish we could have spent more time at.
    We approached this area from the south on HWY 200. Acm Rd on the east side of the Thompson River is a much nicer road to drive on than the Thompson River Rd on the west side of the river. A car can make it to this location with ease.

    OMG, I LOVE trilobites! Never have found one, though.

    Love the dog site on the drone 😀! Trilobites look like "rolypolies".

    Awesome work! We have a lot of trilobites here in New York. Some are even pyritized!

      That's very cool, my knowledge of the geology of that area is pretty much zero.

    Good video and very impressive outcrop. As a geologist, I'd like to see other nearby outcrops, if any, just to put the whole package into a stratigraphic context. The Cambrian/Pre-Cambrian boundary you are working on is hugely important. A lot of astrobiologists are studying it. I'm actually only marginally interested in the trilobites. It's all the other stuff going on along at that point in time that seems more interesting. That other stuff might answer the question Why did Metazoans (animals) suddenly appear in the fossil record?" In the blink of an eye we went from slime mats and worms to mobile organisms with brains, central nervous systems and super sophisticated eyes. How did that happen? The trilobite fossils you found are okay, but what about all the other things in that outcrop that crossed the PC line into the Cambrian? What about trace fossils? There's all kinds of other PC stuff that's even cooler than trilobites like Aspidella which you probably have found, but didn't show. You are doing a great job and I appreciate your videos, but please show the other stuff you see. Thanks.

    Easier to split when damp! Been there and found several nice specimens. If you are really interested several thesis papers are out there on the area.

    Love the new drone footage. Trilobites are fun to look for but hard to find. I haven’t had the pleasure of finding any yet. Trilobites are very interesting animals. Especially how they evolved with time to survive for 300-400 million years. 🤯🤯🤯. Thanks for sharing

    I love it. Many of the campgrounds here in WA state are $35 or $40 per night now? I know of areas to go for free, as you probably do as well. Such a difference though & trilobites. I do miss finding them when I was a kid in Ohio.

      Yeah we really prefer this type of camping as far as a campground goes. Washington state parks are really pricey these days.

    I've heard that there are some trilobites in washington, but the only place I've been able to find them is in delta utah. The shale is extremely solid there and you don't go home without a few cuts. It's somewhat close to topaz mountain too.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 роки тому +1

      They have been found in parts of NE Washington but its all on private land.

    You are going to need an airscribe and make nice displays out of those fossils

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding

      Yeah we're going to look into it.

      @@CurrentlyRockhounding I've been checking them out since I saw meminer show his in use the first time. They are pricey, but at least they don't require an additionally pricey air compressor which is kind of surprising, so a modest pancake compressor should be more than adequate. From my research and knowledge of mechanical design, an airscribe isn't a tool to go cheap on. A used Chicago airscribe would be better than a brand new Chinese clone
