An Afternoon in the Garden -🌞🌷Watering and Tidying the Front Garden in the Spring Sunshine🌷🌞

- After the long wet winter I thought it was time that the front garden had a little tidy up, with having some building work done back in January/February it had scaffolding poles squashing it and then it was badly trampled by the workmen. The poor front garden was looking tired and sorry for itself. I cleaned up the old brick paths, removed the plants from between them and put in fresh gravel, then I tidied the flower beds with a view to replanting once the daffodils have finished.
Although it rains quite a lot, it had also been windy and some of my pots were drying out. I didn't want to have stressed plants so I spent an hour or so peacefully wandering around the garden watering them. (although the watering can is very heavy when full!) Gardening isn't all hard work, some jobs are a pleasure including watering which gives you time to think and enjoy the plants you're caring for.

Everything is looking so great this time of year, Justin! Greetings from Denmark.
Thank you, it seems to have started very quickly this year!
I would love to have you on my gardening podcast!
Your garden is so nice! Some of the shrubs are a little too formal for me but on the whole it is lovely! Enjoy your vidios.
Beautiful Justin
Hi Michelle, nice to see you on here. Thank you!
Very nice and ❤️ 👌 👍 👏
Thank you so much😊
Don't worry about the messiness that you do... me and my sister, we're also VERY messy, rsrsrsr. But the results are always so satisfying! Congrats for your beautiful garden, it's always a pleasure to watch it.
It's great throwing things about, I really could do with an apprentice to tidy up for me when I've finished 😊
Justin, Everything is looking beautiful as always. I so look forward to your videos. Happy gardening and I look forward to the next video!! Susan❤
🎉 very nice.super man good night
Just Beautiful!!! So Happy I just stumbled on your channel. I'm looking foward to seeing more...
Thank you Susan, it's lovely to have you on board! Happy Gardening :-)
Another beautiful view of your garden Justin. I also have an Amelanchier in my front yard that is currently in bloom. In my area, we call it a Juneberry or a serviceberry tree. I too have a lot to do in my garden as well. Happy gardening to you!
Thank you, it's a lovely tree but what a shame it only lasted a few days. At least we get berries and the Autumn colour too so it has many purposes. I hope you have been enjoying your garden!
I love your garden. So relaxing and beautiful
I am living vicariously through your garden. Here in Canada we still have snow and ice on our flower beds. I long to get out and clear some beds but we are about a month out from that. Thank God I have a room full of plants growing under lights. Keep up the good work.
I feel for you, we are fortunate not to have too much frost and snow. I expect it gives you something to look forward to and in a way shortens the winter months by having some of your Spring months indoors with your young plants :-)
Your garden is so lush and peaceful, I wish I was your neighbor! Has anyone ever told you that you look like Eric Clapton? Going to my garden now to clean around my bricks!!❤
Hopefully when he was younger lol my dark hair is fading now, in the summer it'll probably be all white! :O Hope you enjoyed cleaning the bricks, it's a strangely satisfying job!
Hi Justin, Happy Easter to you and your mum. It's lovely to see a new section of your garden too! This afternoon I replanted three beautiful orange marigolds that had popped up in the compost pile and were blooming 😄🧡 Hopefully they'll survive the transplant. I also attached a rescued dendrobium spike to a piece of driftwood and hung it in my little shadehouse-thingy. I seem, unfortunately, to be the queen of killing my late mom's orchids, despite my good intentions 😳🙄🤦🏻♀️ Past victims include a gorgeous blue Vanda, multiple cymbidiums, some small unlabelleds - and a beautiful hot pink catleya is looking decidedly worse for wear currently. And I feel so awful each time one starts struggling but I don't seem to turn them around despite my efforts. It's very disheartening. I'm hopeful about the dendrobium, although the catleya is doubtful.
At least tonight you can have a full night's sleep again! 😄😅 Have a super week! 😊🌺
I've never thought of carrying the wateringcan backwards!! It's genius!! I always splosh all over my feet because I hold the spout forwards - no more!! 😄
Hello, thank you I hope you had a nice time too, it seems ages ago but it was just a few days. I am still eating my Easter egg! It's good you can see what's growing in the compost, somtimes some real treasures grow in them! Orchids can be fickle things, my mum had a few but gave them to Sian because she is better at looking after them. Still recovering for the clocks changing, it's such a strange thing. I have many peculiar ways of gardening. It's 3 gallon watering can, I thought it would save time going backwards and forwards but actually it is quite a strain to carry when it's full!! 😊😊😊
@@justinthegardener Yes, thank you, it was a lovely Easter - enjoy those Easter Eggs! 😆 I have a few compost "bins" and a pile, and an avo pip grew in one of the bins last year!! It was tall and pale, but once it was in a pot and got sunlight it grew beautifully!
Thank you for saying that orchids are finicky! I almost feel as though I have "permission" to rehome mine now too 😅 I'll persevere a little longer, but...
Gosh!! 3 gallons 😳 Luckily you're tall and strong!! I could never manage that! 😄 I tried carrying mine backwards (the can, not me!) a couple of days ago, and it worked beautifully - no sploshes on my feet!! Keep well, and happy gardening 😊🌺🪻🌷🌱
Just gorgeous!!! BUU TEE FULL! Love it! New subscriber! When you go on vacation who takes care of your garden ? Thank you for sharing your creative beauty! 💕🌸💕🌸🕊️
Thank you for your lovely comments! I don't often go away but when I do I have a very good friend who lives nearby who does the watering for me :-)
Your site has just come up, and after watching ‘an afternoon in the sun’ I’ve subscribed. Your garden is beautiful , and I believe relaxing. Thank you.
Thank you Maggie, it was a rare afternoon in the sun, it rains nearly every day but I think the plants are secretly enjoying it, we will have bigger flowers this year I'm sure.
Beautiful! ❤❤️❤️
I don’t want to alarm you, but you had a wild big cat lurking outside your window when you were talking. My suggestion is to approach it with extreme caution because they’ll disarm you with cuteness before pouncing! 😂😂
But in all seriousness, I always love it when plants begin to bloom at this time of year. It’s very rejuvenating.
Cheers
I wondered what the scratching at the door was, it's a good thing I didn't go out and get eaten. I have a very friendly cat friend at the Old Manor House, he follows me everywhere and is a bit ferocious so I'm always ready to jump backwards! It is a lovely time of year isn't it, fresh, colourful and buzzing with life!
Hope you and your mum have had a lovely Easter Justin. I've been like you and weeding between the block paving. Unfortunately I've not had any self seeders in mine, only moss! It's a job that really tidies things up and makes such a difference. Everything is springing back to life and we've had a lovely couple of days weatherwise but it's back to rain today.
Hi Wendy, we had a very nice quiet time, we went to visit Sian and see her garden on Saturday, then had a nice dinner yesterday and I did lots of gardening as you will have noticed ;-) There was some moss too but I don't mind a bit for the birds to use. I have filled a border with plants out of the gravel! Yes, it was raining this morning but it is fairing up now, I need some compost to pot on a tree so that'll be a job for later :-)
