These are the 2 shoes I was most looking forward to buying, so got both of them a few weeks ago. Got to say that after 4 or 5 runs in each of these shoes, the Hoka Mach 6 is my clear favorite at this point. I am a slow runner, but the Mach 6 just feels a lot bouncier to me than the Speed 4. Was hoping the Speed 4 would be more like versions 1 and 2, but to me it is only a slight improvement over version 3.
A superbly fair comparison. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings about these two shoes Andy. Keep providing the community with sound advice mate. 😎🤘
Good morning. Excellent comparison. I prefer the endorphin speed 4 to fartleks, race day, intervalls. First Like to Andy. A nice saturday for everyone.
100%, I have both. The Mach 6 is a great shoe. I have to force myself to use the Speed 4(also a good shoe) as the Mach 6 just feels so good. I'm close to 200km in mine and mid sole still perfect
Interesting comparison...that I didn't consider. I'll be starting work on The Endorphin Speed 4 later next week and am still giving the Mach 6 a chance... as I want to see where the foam hits it's limit.
I've never had a Hoka that was worth a damn after 150 miles, so I'm very wary of the Mach 6. Hoka midsoles go dead fast, long before the rest of the shoe shows significant wear.
I have the Endorphin Speed 4 and enjoy it but the 28mm toe stack makes it lack the comfort for long tempo runs...not tried the Mach 6 but considering that has 32mm toe stack makes me think that would still be comfy up to half marathon distance at tempo pace!
Width isn’t the full story… I find the Speed 4 tapers too aggressively in the toes, to the point where my pinkies are pushed under its neighbour. Totally unusable for me. Mach 6 is narrower through midfoot but has a more rounded toe box, which works better for me.
Got them both, and returned the speed 4 after 70km. Sizing wasn‘t good, the laces hurt my upper foot. Love the Mach 6! I think I have already 400km in them and they still run strong.
I bought the Mach 6 the other day, and immediately set a few PBs in some local hilly Strava segments. It’s a really fun shoe to run in. But I’m doing a race tonight, and I’ll be reaching for my Speed 3s. I’ll also buy some Speed 4s this spring to serve as my race shoes for the rest of the year. The Speeds are less exciting, but faster for me over the long haul.
If I going to get one. I have already swore off Hoka but 8mm botheres my hips for daily runs. I agree I’ll take the Mach 6, but vs 4 & 5 lasted longer because of the dual foam. But now they have rubber so maybe a sequel but truthfully, if you can’t get 300 miles on a pair of shoes at the prices, they charge for just being a common working guy that’s bad. I almost hate to say it, but I picked the Hoka for me now I like the endorphin better I was using it for only speed sessions and racing
I love hoka but as you say they dont last long. I've had 4 pairs of rincons and have got 270 to 300 miles out of them but it was easy runs only by 200 miles. J got almost 400 out of my Clifton 8s. I'm interested in the mach 6 as a non plated alternative for fast runs like parkrun, esp in conditions that arent suitable for my speed 3s
I just bought the Mach 6 but I’m a bit worried about how narrow they are in the toe box and mid foot. They seem to give me problems with ankle roll, arch drop and shin pain similar to when I ran in Nike Pegs
I was 13 in saucony and 13.5 in mach 6... but the only reason I half sized up is because in the bigger sizes for hoka, they go 12.5, 13.5, 14.5 and 12.5 is too small for me... 13.5 in a hoka is the same as 13 in saucony for me
I’m not sure where the plate finishes, but I’m not getting the speed-roll, I feel the foam is a bit soft and feels more like it’s folding on me, I fully accept this is just my experience and opinion. I was so desperate to like this shoe, I think I over hyped it to myself!!! ,
Exactly the same for me. Loved the 2, the 3 was a bit baggier and wide. The heel I'm certain has contributed to a Achilles Tendinopathy that has all but ruined my chances of getting a decent time at Brighton Marathon.
Have both, prefer Mach 6 for recovery-easy-base runs, prefer Speed 4 for anything over pace 6:30(km).

Same here just prefer running in the mach 6

I have these two as well as the nova blast 4 and so far it’s between the nova blast and Hoka Mach 6.

as a 5:30/km pace runner would you go speed 4 or pro 4?
Thank you for this video! It helped me to decide which one to get. So now I’m going for the Mach 6!
Which shoe seems to be more breathable, I prioritize breathability over most other aspects, nothing worse than a hot hot shoe

Ah sorry to hear about the speed 4! But I’m glad you’re loving the Mach 6 👊
Good review. I’m preferring the Mach 6 over ES3 currently. A great shoe for £120 ish.
How long will it last though I wonder??🤷♀

Between this i prefer Mach 6
But Rebel V3 still my favourite daily trainer

Then..maybe they are not good for you. I returned plenty of hoka because they were narrow.
El mayor problema de Hoka ,
New balance mucho mejor, horma más ancha
Guess I'll be going for the 4s.
My current 3s are around 1500 kms....and need something that can last as much
One of these two shoes will be my next purchase
I will pick up the Mach 6 when they are on sale till then I will stick with the speed
How’s sizing, I normally run eu 44 (uk 9.5) in Saucony, also in the endorphins, which size of the Mach’s should work best?
I was 13 in saucony and 13.5 in mach 6... but the only reason I half sized up is because in the bigger sizes for hoka, they go 12.5, 13.5, 14.5 and 12.5 is too small for me... 13.5 in a hoka is the same as 13 in saucony for me

Hey man, how’s your mach 6 right now?? Is still great?
Amazing, nearly at 300 miles and going strong
I run 60 miles a week. So no to the Hoka
speeds all day for me
For mach 6, never try it if you have slightly big or wide feet, it will torture you. The upper material is not elastic
If the speed 4 is anything like the Speed 3, I wouldn't take one for free!!! A heel killer with the aggressive heel counter! No more Saucony for me!
Exactly the same for me. Loved the 2, the 3 was a bit baggier and wide. The heel I'm certain has contributed to a Achilles Tendinopathy that has all but ruined my chances of getting a decent time at Brighton Marathon.
Speed 3 IT bad issues for me
Are not comparable. Plated and no plated, so the comparison has no sense for me
Nylon plates aren’t quite the same as carbon plates, they’re more used for stabilisers than performance
