- Found on an old VHS tape, filmed at St. Chad's Church in Burton upon Trent, Staffs. in 1978. Please note there is about 40 seconds of another programme before the show starts.
I would have been eight at the time and at junior school. In those days, I didn't go to church but watched Songs of Praise. Four years later, I attended church; it wasn't until Mission England that I became a Christian at fourteen. I am now about to turn 52 this week!
Thanks for this. Used to go there with my mum around that time, along with St Peter's in Stapenhill. What a packed house!
What a lovely voice the priest has, the Rev Gwyn Harris-Jones. I stumbled across this by accident - just making comparisons between programmes, and have returned several times just to hear the litany and blessing. I have since looked him up; he was a Welshman (and Church in Wales priest) who spent time in Uganda before taking parishes in England. He was in Burton on Trent for many years... Later took a parish in Shrewsbury. Died in 2006 aged 87.
I was baptised by the Rev Gwyn Harris-Jones in a decade I don't recall too well. This is my home parish church. Finding this footage made me feel quite emotional.
@@TamsinJones Thanks for responding. I was moved by the dignity with which he conducted the prayers, and the cope over the cassock is a very old usage!
@@julianmeek2156 Indeed, and what a lovely Welsh accent!
I am a Christian of long-standing; 38 years ago I was converted at Mission England aged fourteen. This Cymric parson must have served his Lord with distinction home and abroad. I would have been thirty six at the time of his demise, but alas never met him as I live in the Black Country.
I was in the choir at st chads as a child. I wasn't born until 1982 though lol. I'm not sure how this is in my recommendation.. how does UA-cam know this? Or is it the biggest coincidence ever known lol 😱
I am twelve years older than you, so would remember Songs of Praise of that era. Here I would have been at junior school, but didn't become a Christian until 1984 at Mission England!
Notice outside a church one week:- "Make your worst enemy your best friend".
Notice outside same church following week:- "Drink is your worst enemy".
Lived around the corner in Goodman Street. Visited this church many times
"I can't talk Ma I'm on a Stakeout"
Ha ha!! I was just enjoying a nice bottle of Bass Pale Ale earlier tonight! No kidding...
Wasn't it all still very frightfully, back then. Highway with Sir Harry Secombe was more friendly.
Each to their own! ☺️ I much prefer this
