Can lymph nodes be damaged from evlt or phelebectomy that result in permanent lymphedema? Is there a way to prevent this?

Hi, can you tell me if there is a risk of peroneal nerve or sciatic saphenous nerve damage from phelebectomy around knee shin or ankle? That is what concerns me the most. If there is deep reflux. Will new veins come right back? Even after risking surgery

There is a very low risk to the peroneal nerve when a phlebectomy is done at the lateral aspect of the knee.
Careful technique can make this complication exceedingly rare. It should not be a reason to avoid a phlebectomy if the veins are bothersome.
In some cases, smaller varicose veins near the knee can be treated with sclerotherapy to avoid nerve risk entirely though not all veins can be treated this way (size dependent).
Sciatic nerve damage is not a risk.
As varicose veins are often a hereditary issue, recurrent venous disease and varicosities may appear as the years pass. We cannot change the genetics…we can only try to minimize recurrences and treat symptoms. Deep vein reflux does elevate the risk of recurrent varicosities as well.
