This is EXACTLY what I needed. I've sewn for years, but never had to hem men's dress pants. I looked at another tutorial, but just couldn't be sure of the stitch, but this was so clear. Perfect tutorial!
All these new quick tips are presented soooo clearly and have so much useful info. I just love them. I would love to see you do one one some different ways to tie a knot both when you thread at the bottom of your needle as well as when you end a row of stitches while hand sewing. I’m always looking to tidy up my detail work and any new tips would be super helpful to incorporate into my work! 💪🏼💕🪡
Hi Mercedes. Thanks for your comment. You are right, this is basically the herringbone stitch. When this stitch is used as a blind hem, then is called catch stitch. The difference is the herringbone, being decorative is seen at the two sides of the fabric but this one, the catch stitch is seen just inside. It is meant to be blind outside. Otherwise it is the same stitch. Cheers 🙂
I often find the inseams of pants to be different lengths. When shortening, should I always just take the same amount off both hems or do you measure the inseams and make them match first? I'm probably over thinking this.
Thanks 😊 I use mostly Carmel tailor chalk. I explained it here: Sharpening the chalk #sewing #sewingchalk #tailorschalk ua-cam.com/users/shortsqsHa2muVMc0?feature=share Cheers 🥰
Hi! Very well explained! Just a doubt: I saw you didn't make a straight line but it's like an angle. How do you decide how much bending it? I hope is clear, thanks!
Hi. Basically, I try to make the line perpendicular to the front crease and to the back crease. But it depends on the customer's preference. Some of them like the hem a little bit slanted both ways sorter and longer at the front. Please, let me know if this helps. Cheers 🙂
I have a bridesmaid dress that needs be. It’s made of stretchy fabric that can run if pulled too much. How do I sew it so it doesn’t be wavy . Please help
How do you sew Invisible Thread I am trying to sew a mother of the groom dress I'm hemming it but I don't want the thread color to show through on the sheer fabric I think it is chiffon
You could try a rolling hem but hiding the stitches on sheer fabric is extremely difficult and time consuming. For this kind of material is most commonly used the rolling by machine. Here you go a nice technique that will make your work easier: ua-cam.com/video/jGTaRl8sh2Q/v-deo.html
Hi! In this case, you need to taper the pants. You can, as well, make false cuffs as presented in this video. ua-cam.com/video/pf49U1bJe08/v-deo.html Cheers 😊
@@DowntownTailoring, If this, is an issue due to the weave and fabric type a running straight machine stitch about 1/4" below the pink edge before doing the hidden catch stitch. Cheers!

As I mentioned in the video, you can use pinking shears if you don’t have a serger or do an overcast stitch by hand. Point is that you don’t need a blind hem machine. Cheers.
Looks like an extremely wide hem to see at bottom of pants.. I don't sew and I would not like this look if I paid to have pants shortened. At 5' all my clothes are usually too long
Thanks! I needed pants for work, but the only ones I can afford don't fit. You're amazing and a great teacher. Thank you
Thank you sooo much for your kind words and for your Super Thanks! Cheers 🥰🥰
Thank you for using the contrasting color! It's so easy to see what you're doing!
This stich is so good because even if the thread breaks the stiches stay in place. I have used it many times on dresses or pants etc.
Certainly! This is why I love it too!

thank you so much for this video! I just hemmed my sons prom pants and they came out perfect!
I’m so glad! Thanks for letting me know 🥰🥰🥰
Hello 🙋, this stitch is called herringbone stitch. It's a very flexible stitch. Loved the video

Yhank you for this video. Very helpful.
This is so good, it is working . . . even though I'm not sure I did it quite right.
Thank you, ma'am.
Great tutorial. Thanks for posting.
Brilliant tip thank you
I am not a hand sewer but I might try this one for sure I was doing it all wrong. Thank you
Never is wrong. Just a different approach. Cheers 🙂
You make it seem so easy!
Yup the herringbone stitch, it's very therapeutic for me.
Excellent video! What about for knit pants? Would it be the same procedure as wool pants?

Try the ban-roll technique. Here you go the link:

is that a curved ruler? Never saw this stitch before. Thanks!!
Hi Kathy! I used a straight ruler. It is 2" wide and this makes me do less measurements. Cheers 🙂
Thanks!

The only way to do these.

Its very similar idea to how you do smocking.
Yes! That's right 🙂
What if the pants leg width is wide at the top causing the hem not to lay flat? What do you do then?

in tailoring classes, I was taught to use a hidden catch stitch and a pinked edge, not a turned edge.
Yes! That's another way. But coutouriers usually don't like to leave pinked edges in general. Cheers 😊

This is not by hand tho
This was too fast for me
There is an option on the settings in the video to slow it down. I use it a lot.

On my professionally tailored pants it's almost always 2-3 inches. This looks great as demonstrated here
You move too fast for a beginner like me. Are you trying to teach us or showing off. However I like your style. Thanks
