  • As chemical processes become more complex, the balances also become more difficult. Dr. Morrison provides an example of a complex problem, beginning with reading the problem description up through calculating the final quantities of interest. The handout is available at blogs.mtu.edu/f....

Lol, I just found this video 2 years after graduating. I whipped out a piece of paper and solved this problem in about 3 minutes. It's crazy how much I used to struggle with this stuff, and how elementary it is now.

flow rate? is not calculated, right? rate would be some quantity over time right?
you end up with more moles than you started with. are you off by a factor of 10.

Can you provide the handout for this example (Balances on Multple Units with Reaction ).
Thank you for great explanation of simplicity of mass balance.

How can you start off with 100 moles of propane, then out come over 900 moles of propane?

some quantity was recycled from the product to the mixing point. I know my answer won't be helpful but I want to type my comment here xD

    please
    solve this
Do the material balance of fractionation tower with the feed 5%
mole Methane, 70% mole Propane,10%mole Iso-butane,15%mole N -butane, the top product will contains 2% mole of iso-butane and the bottom product contain 2% mole propane maximum.
