Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is inherently safe for most people.
With a little training on how to equalize the pressure in their ears, most people can go right into a chamber, no problem.
But there are relative and absolute contraindications to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and there are a handful of people that really shouldn't go in or need to be cleared by a doctor before deciding to go into a hyperbaric chamber.
In this video we’ll discuss 5 RELATIVE contraindications for HBOT.
By relative, we mean that it depends on the severity of the issue. People with these conditions may actually benefit from HBOT, but it depends on the severity, and the patient should see their related specialist to be cleared before getting into a chamber.
At the end we’ll also discuss the 2 absolute contraindications of HBOT. These people cannot go into a chamber 100% of the time.

I supposed to be getting the hyperbaric chamber sometime next week and I supposed to go out of town on the 25th of July, I supposed to be out of town for 5 days should I wait until I get back start the treatment as soon as I get back.
I have heard that HBOT destroys bifido in the gut because bifido is anaerobic. What are your findings?
hey bro, can you tell me why HBOT is more effective than.... taking 02 in a hot bath? ... in fact maybe a hot bath is more effective...? also, I'm using a concentrator that pumps 60% at 3L/min ... can you comment on if I should get a >90% at 5L/min?
What about pacemakers? Others say no for them.
@@Horse237 please check make model and serial number with the manufacturer and make sure it is rated for pressure exposure and to what pressure it can handle.
I've been having hyperbaric treatment for a little over a month. According to what I've watched and read, this therapy could benefit many many people, and so many people never heard of it. I'm only one person but I'm going to spread the word about this treatment.

@Mikesworld777 it ended, sorry I just saw this. It made me feel better, helped me with my gums healing, which is why my oral surgeon prescribed it. I definitely felt more energy after a month and lighter.
We have a friend with a pacemaker goes in no problem. His pacemaker goes up to 3 atmospheric pressure and our low pressure chamber is 1.3. His cancer numbers went down 1/3 after 17 dives. That’s every other day.

Is this elective? I went to Sloan Kettering cancer hospital and was forbidden to do hyperbaric chambers. I was told my cancer thrives off of O2 and it would cause it to grow like wildfire.

I was looking at this to treat Long Covid which was suggested? 5. kind of conflicts with what I was told. Can you confirm its not the same as long covid?
I had an accident and had heavy bruising. I also have breast cancer. I did HBOT to speed healing two days after chemo (Taxol). My breath and body fluids smelled like a chemical for two days after. I think it speeded up metabolically the taxol chemo. Did I make a mistake?
I agree@@AndyHTu People in London, UK are lining up to do Ozone Therapy and HBOT for Long Covid (and it's effective). There's a lot of positive personal testimonials from my local HBOT centre too for cancer, autism, MS, ME (post viral) and TBIs. One thing I'd add that no one has mentioned is that claustrophobia and panic attacks and HBOT don't mix well! Psychological issues like that will need treatment before someone can get into a tank. Severe sinusitis also needs to be shared with practitioners. It's worth finding a good centre staffed with doctors or experienced practitioners as opposed to a spa or dental surgery that's got an HBOT chamber to add to their revenue and who may not be able to answer individual medical questions.

Yeah, I went and got stem cells in Mexico. They put me in one of those chambers and I could not tolerate it. I have emphysema, I've had a collapsed lung twice. And that is correct about not being able to equalize the pressure in my ears. My left ear hurt really bad. I tried it 2 times because they said it would really help me alot. But that was not the case with me.
I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it. If your ears were the only problem, you could practice equalizing them and try various methods to see if you can find one that works consistently for you, and then try HBOT again. @@HBOTUSA Dr, I was born with Hemifacial Microsomia which in my case means I don't have a right ear. I've had trouble on several flights where I've gotten very ill and felt like something was going wrong inside my skull. I was on another flight from Paris to Rome and had what I would guess was my eardrum blowing out. Intense pain like an explosion in my ear. The last time I flew from Phoenix to Los Angeles I was so sick I was going to ask if they could land the plane .
Should I avoid air travel?

Wow, sickle cell anemia and long Covid is brutal. I’m going to talk to my hematologist bc the stem cell , crispr 9 gene editing isn’t something I’m considering. Ty for this breakdown. I haven’t found anyone else explain this so well. So how do u find out if inability to equalize isn’t good enough for this ? I have vertigo off and on and my ears feel full and I have tinnitus on occasion. I hope to get a reply !

In your experience and research, is separately Ozone IV therapy and HBOT safe with most young healthy adult patients with a very small intracranial aneurysm? My main take away is unless I can't pop my ears or I've punctured my lungs that I should be doing this for my health instead of getting messed up by dr.s insisting on poking my spine and then not helping me when they did it wrong and now I have hope that some of this cam be repaired
Hello, thanks for the information. In terms of contraindications, I recently (8th December) had a motorcycle accident which has involved multiple rib fractures, scapula, clavicle, both elbows and hand franctures. In addition, punctured left lung and pneumothorax, which has since been cleared for flying and concussion. The clavicle, both elbows and metacarpal, have had surgery, pins, plates and wire. I started yesterday's HBOT down to 1.35 atm my thinking being to hopefully assist with the stubborn right elbow in straightening as well as mitigate concussion symptoms of vertigo, memory, depth perception and balance. I can easily clear my ears as used to be a commercial diver, however I noticed briefly at 1.2 atm pain in my right eye and cheekbone which resolved with a gas squeek from I assume my sinus around the left cheekbone. Then at 1.45 atm a very sharp intense pain again in the left cheekbone region which after a minute or two I dropped back down to 1.2 atm where it resolved. My question is a history of sinusitis a contraindication?
Not it’s not as long as you can equalize you can dive. Making sure the pneumo is fully resolved is a much bigger concern.
@@HBOTUSAthanks for getting back, especially so quickly. The Pneumothorax has been cleared by radiologist twice and my GP and the orthopaedic surgeon cleared flying.
When you say not that you can dive pending clearing ears, can you please clarify, if ears clear there is no concerns regarding sinus clearing if there were to be blockages or structural issues?
If you do not have pain in the sinuses you can dive. If there is pain something is blocked and that would be a problem.
Can a person with low CO2 17 (MMOL) can get HBOT treatment ?
What if our wisdom tooth is growing and there's air pocket - can we go for hbot?
What about a hernia? I was told I cannot scuba dive again until I have surgery first

I’ve seen a short video on a baby who had no oxygen for 43minutes who the doctors said had no chance and is recovering thru this treatment. I would say it’s worth looking into

Im 32 years old, am on a ventilator through a trach, have a slew of neurological conditions, have a feeding tube, neurogenic bladder, neuromuscular weakness, and many other conditions. My Chiropractor has a Mild Hyperbaric Chamber, specifically an OxyAir 32 model, and I have a VOCSN ventilator which is compatible with mild hyperbaric chamber therapy. Well I have a lot of conditions and I wanted to see if I could benefit from a few sessions in the Hyperbaric chamber, but due to my medical conditions, and the seizures I had a few months ago, my chiropractor refuses to put me in the Hyperbaric Chamber. I KID YOU NOT! He won't put me in there. He's denied me access. And I think it's a load of garbage, because I have a great mental capacity, I'm not going to try to get out of the chamber when it's at full pressure. I know the pressure cannot be reduced from 40 KPA all of the sudden, and I would just lie in there, quietly for the hour and 15 minutes patients are in there, but the guy refuses to put me in. I told them I would be safe in there, but he said "NO!" So that's not happenin. Which I think it not right! You know, even my Primary Care Physician thinks and told the Chiropractor that I could benefit. And the Chiropractor told me to consult with him, but when I did, the chiropractor decided to deny me access. So I'm switching Chiropractors!
What about mhbot for severe copd? Also, we really need info about mhbot treatment efficacy for psychotropic med damage..please!
Even with mild pressures, you would want the patient to be cleared by their doctor(s) before putting them in a chamber if they have moderate to severe COPD.
Regarding psychotropic med damage, we'll add it to the list of video ideas!
I would try breathing oxygen and hydrogen blend all night long and often during the day.
We are doing that and sure notice a huge difference in our energy and breathing, our hyperbaric tube has a valve inside so we can control how fast the chamber pressurizes I have a lot of ear pain while it is filling but as soon as it is pressurized no problem, slow practice will really help. We have Lyme disease, mold poisoning and a few toxic chemicals in our blood, a clinic we go to in Tennessee uses it for Lyme and mold patients. We are also getting our blood cleaned, its like dialyses and vit drips. Biologix center in franklin Tennessee. People from all over the world go there.
What does HBOT to the neurotransmitters?
doctor i have a question, i've always had heart palpitations but 2 weeks ago i started the HBOT at 2.4 and my palpitations are more intense, also my vision is all over the place, i feel my skin swollen and also burning a lot and also my ears they keep popping all the time, ive done 10 sessions but it's not helping. Can it get better? is there any reason why my heart arrhythmia is getting worse?

you can insert tubes to equalize your ears, thats what i had to do. not fun, but helped restore 80% of my hearing to get HBOT

My mom is 92 and has a colostomy and she has dementia. I have a chamber at home that I use. Can my Mom go in a chamber. I’m concerned that her body will pressurize while under pressure and when I depressurization the chamber, that her colostomy bag will inflate and rupture making a huge mess for me and my mom to deal with. She has retinal bleeding and is going blind and would really benefit from hyperbaric therapy. I could go in there with her to help her. I want to do it but am afraid to try it. What do you think?

Hi Doctor,
My mom is currently suffering from radiation necrosis. She had her brain tumor excision in November 2023, and radiations (tomotherapy) taken in Dec-Jan. But since January ending, she got symptomatic with getting reduced control of her right hand. Also, she had edema because of this.
MRI reports suggest of radiation necrosis but there is also a possibility of tumor recurrence?
Everytime we try to taper steroids, the edema increases. She had a seizure in the month of May because of the same reason.
Do you recommend her taking this treatment?

Do some drugs affect the safety of the HBOT? I take maximum dose of Seroquel, Gabapentin and Trintellix..... Kinda scared but I would love to try for my tinnitus this.
There are a few drug interactions yes. You would really need a consultation with a hyperbaric practitioner to answer. I cannot answer that directly on this channel.
I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and have been unable to find a place where I could undergo these treatments. I am interested in detoxing, among other things. All I could find nearby was a place that offers “soft” hyperbaric, but my anti-aging doctor recommends the full treatment. He would like us to buy our own unit for at home, but we have no place to put it. Besides, those units are too much like coffins. I want to walk into a LARGE one and be assured that someone will let me out again!

Can you take HBOT in tumor recurrence case? My mom had brain tumor stage 2, she went for surgery and radiation. Now she has some damaged tissues/edema in brain due to either necrosis or recurrence. Some chances of recurrence. Will this therapy work? Or doesn’t the oxygen help in growing tumor cells?

What about hemachromatosis? Is there a risk for over oxidation?
While this is not direct medical advice:
Of course one could get too much of a good thing and someone sensitive to over oxidation needs to take this very slow. Also watching iron levels and blood letting would likely be part of the program as well. If implemented slowly and carefully it would not only not over oxidize someone it will actually help reduce oxidation by upregulating your own antioxidant systems.
I feel better and have more energy at higher altitudes. Conversely I experience lethargy below 6k.
Hi do we need to remove the dressing during hyperbaric oxygen therapy ? This is with the intention to directly move oxygen into the wound via the pressure. Really need help urgently as a patient os accusing me of not removing the dressing during treatment.
Oxygen benefits from hbot are delivered through respiration not through direct contact skin contact. That is a common misunderstanding but we do not absorb oxygen through skin only through breathing it. This is why multiplace and monoplace chamber will get the same result. One is 100% oxygen pressurized while the other is air pressurized with oxygen supplied separately through a mask or hood

Is that related also for 1.3 AT?
Yes! Relative contraindications should be cleared with a medical professional and the absolute contraindications still apply even for mild HBOT (1.3 ATA).
My ears are fine after it hits the full pressure, we do have a knob that we can control the speed of inflation. But with use it dies get better.
I've done a small handful of sessions for the first time in the UK. One thing I've noticed is that the air I'm breathing smells very plastic-y and is not pleasant. Is this normal? It's being run through an oxygen concentrator in a soft shell. What should the air I'm breathing smell like?

Please clarify whether the inability to equalize the ears applies to a 1.3 atmosphere soft hyperbaric chamber or if you apply the hard stop to higher atmospheres or hard chambers. My mom has a skull tumor that was radiated 4 months ago and in the break down has caused a deep fluid build up behind her ear as the body removes the dissonant cells little by little. There is no way for her to clear it by holding her nose. She has been in a soft chamber 3 times for 30 mins maximum at 1.3 and she does very well. She experiences crackling in the fluid behind the ear while she enjoys because it feels as though it could release, but she can’t control that herself. What’s your feedback? We’ve consulted doctors and the clinic owners and she was cleared. I’m interested in further opinion.
This would be true at any pressure….. but If she’s not having ear pain and no visible redness or inflammation in the middle ear it sounds like she is doing ok there
We can't give specific medical advice through UA-cam, but generally speaking, regarding a person's inability to equalize their ears, as long as they're not in pain it should be fine.
I had pneumothorax as a teenager 20 years ago and I underwent a surgery to fix it, I had no occurrences of pneumothorax since, is it possible for me to do this treatment?
Obviously I will consult with a specialist before, I just want to know if maybe there is a possibility.
A fully recovered pneumothorax can use go in a chamber but yes always best to be cleared properly

No but can tell you it is expensive especially since you will want many sessions but I think it depends on your company and coverage. It’s pretty new to the public readily, so probably not and many places wont take insurance.
We found it cost effective to buy our own for home use. Works great but do extensive research and read all comments. We really like ours no need for anyone to help you in and out it has oxygen and hydrogen hook ups in side, emergency controls very comfortable flat or reclining cushion clear ports to see in and out its nice. Great for people with Lyme, mold, arthritis, brain fog, fibromyalgia the list gies on. Even heard of it helping with Autism. Think about red light and red laser therapy. Sauna with red lights. Remember to stimulate the Vegas Nerve and lymphatic drainage.

@@bls5160 yes along with 6 ft ted light (over message bed) panels, sauna, oxygen/ hydrogen machines we sleep with it all night going, and many other health helpers. We also get our blood cleaned and vitamin drips. We are fighting Lyme, mold and chemicals. We are on the mend. We don’t have regular MD’s we have Chiropractors and Functional Specialists. I will get the model and price posted tomorrow. 🙏🏼
Have you seen any benefits for POTS?
We've treated quite a few patients with POTS and it definitely helps! We also usually combine it with other autonomic nervous system support and usually some adrenal support.

A substitute? As in methylene blue instead of hbot? Probably not, they do very different things.
In addition to and likely some synergy by combining them, yes I think that works well.

Yes you should still be able to do that. Research says there are significant improvements with combined steroid and hbot use.

What about if you have high blood sugars. Possibly dka diabetic ketoacidosis. Where you may feel symptoms like anemia and sob?
What if you have breast cancer & refuse chemo, radiation & cancer drugs?
We have cancer patients all the time in 1.3 low pressure chamber. 2 x day is ideal. To go in that often, you probably want to buy your own.
Also consider doing the keto diet, look up how to starve cancer and there's tons of info 🙏❤️

What about psychological problems like claustrophobia? Surely the hyperbaric chamber wouldn't be recommended for people suffering from that. They'd freak out when sealed in there for a minimum of two hours, wouldn't they?

Like most conditions, claustrophobia is on a continuum. Many people actually do fine with a little extra care and time. Some people who are on the extreme end just absolutely won't go in. Then there are some who will, if there are other health issues or goals that are very important to them, and we have some procedures for helping them develop the comfort level needed to get into a chamber and receive treatment.

I am watching this after a 2h treatment in a hyperbaric chamber and after 1h in, I started not feeling well. A bit dizzy, and overall not my entire digestive system got weak. It’s like mild nausea and it’s been 1h10min out and I am not back to normal. It’s kind of weird and I wonder what happened. A friend of mine goes twice a month and we sat there and had a chat and she is totally fine. I hope I didn’t compromise myself.

Herx is nausea caused by detoxing too fast.

Most patients with asthma can go in a chamber comfortably. Like most other issues, going slow and not rushing the process will work in that persons favor

How do you equalize your ears?
Several ways,
-pinch your nose and with closed mouth gently blow, you should feel your ear drums flex
-move your jaw back and forth, you should feel your drums flex, or the pressure equalize
-swallow

It's very expensive to offer! There are very large capital investments to not only purchase the equipment, but also to do build-outs and meet code requirements, establish proper procedures and paperwork, inspections, etc. There are also on-going costs to operate between training and staffing, oxygen supply, masks, maintenance on the chambers, compressors, keeping things clean and functional, etc. It takes a lot to operate an efficient and safe HBOT practice!
Can Hbot be helpful for Parkinson's cognitive decline
I'm an athlete, I tried an hbot session and it had no effect whatsoever.
Depending on what someone is using this for, devices like will have very little effect in a single session. Much like working out or training once or twice will not help someone compete at a high level. If performance was a goal or recovery was a goal, this tool incorporated into a training program and used throughout a season in varying amount depending on where in the season someone was, a device like this has profound effects.

Conflicting information out there yes. Are hard chambers more effective than soft chambers? Yes. Do you need a hard chamber to be effective? It really depends on the goal. They are certainly still very effective. Do soft chambers spread infection? There has never been a single study to show that. This is misleading information that persists in the industry.

We typically separate them from ozone. It too much oxygen but would be too much reactive oxygen species. Don’t want to over oxidize. It’s important to have proper guidance from the folks overseeing your car se for sure !
