      Too bad Larry Legend wasn't able to play his normal game anymore because of his career ending back injury. He could still stick it in the hole but his movements were slower, especially on defense. And his normally tenacious rebounding was non-existent. With a health Larry Bird these games would have been even more out of control.

    To make the Dream Team even more amazing, think about this: They're playing against national teams that are used to playing together. The Dream Team is basically a pick-up team. They're legendary players but they've never played together as a team before. They have no game plan, no team chemistry, etc... Experience playing together is an extremely huge factor in basketball.

      True. In fact, watching a number of these vids, it actually strikes me how sloppily the US team played, even as they accumulated leads in factors of 10pts/minute over the opponents. It’s really ugly and aggravating basketball to watch (especially for a viewer weaned on the “beautiful game” of a real team like the current Golden State Warriors.)
      The constant official whistle-stoppages of the international game don’t help either.

      @tommyhallum2054 3 роки тому +4

      It would definitely be more competitive because the world is slowly approaching the US when it comes to basketball skills. The biggest difference is a lot of these foreign teams practice together all year round leading up to the Olympics whereas the NBA players don't practice together until about a week prior to the Olympics so there is no chemistry Like the foreign teams have. Which is a big deal.

      "The only way America will win is by bringing it's best players" is the most idiotic thing ever. Why wouldn't you bring your best players? So the only way Puerto Rico won was because we didn't bring our best players, and this knucklehead thinks it is humiliation an actual overall tie. When we send a mediocre team so you can not lose, it is not you winning. It is a gift. A handout.

      Did you know that Puerto Rico beat the US by 19 (92-73) in the first game of the 2004 Olympics in Athens. It was the most lopsided victory against the US team in Olympic history. That US team had LeBron, Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Tim Duncan, etc, etc.

    • @tommyhallum2054

      Great point but the one thing that these smaller countries have that the US team doesn't have is chemistry these guys have never played with each other up until about a week prior to the Olympics and chemistry can beat skill more often than not. It is possible.
