Too bad Larry Legend wasn't able to play his normal game anymore because of his career ending back injury. He could still stick it in the hole but his movements were slower, especially on defense. And his normally tenacious rebounding was non-existent. With a health Larry Bird these games would have been even more out of control.

To make the Dream Team even more amazing, think about this: They're playing against national teams that are used to playing together. The Dream Team is basically a pick-up team. They're legendary players but they've never played together as a team before. They have no game plan, no team chemistry, etc... Experience playing together is an extremely huge factor in basketball.
It helps that most of them played pick up ball with each other during summer, plus 6 of them were part of the '84 Olympic Training pool 3 of which made the roster
True. In fact, watching a number of these vids, it actually strikes me how sloppily the US team played, even as they accumulated leads in factors of 10pts/minute over the opponents. It’s really ugly and aggravating basketball to watch (especially for a viewer weaned on the “beautiful game” of a real team like the current Golden State Warriors.) The constant official whistle-stoppages of the international game don’t help either.
That is only partially true. They practiced before going and had played all star games together for some. If you watch Jordan he passes to Bird over everyone if they are on the floor together.

It's not the best team, this was the first time NBA players were allowed to play in the Olympics, so of course they will dominate all the teams. Since then basketball world got a lot better internationally, so they will not dominate like the first time. Plus not all the time the best NBA players have represent the 🇺🇸 on that same year. The biggest difference is a lot of these foreign teams practice together all year round leading up to the Olympics whereas the NBA players don't practice together until about a week prior to the Olympics so there is no chemistry Like the foreign teams have. Which is a big deal.

Did you know that Puerto Rico beat the US by 19 (92-73) in the first game of the 2004 Olympics in Athens. It was the most lopsided victory against the US team in Olympic history. That US team had LeBron, Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Tim Duncan, etc, etc.
Great point but the one thing that these smaller countries have that the US team doesn't have is chemistry these guys have never played with each other up until about a week prior to the Olympics and chemistry can beat skill more often than not. It is possible.
Great players and great physiques but US got so many players to change first 5 starters whereas other countries did not have many options. I still see that dream team struggle against field defense particularly Jordan could not penetrate.
