Mr Apprentice, the correct term for the way you parked your trailer is called "Ally Dock" not jack knife. You did not loose control of your trailer, you placed it that way on purpose. Keep the good content coming.
Good video I just bought a gooseneck roll off .. the reason for the purchase of a gooseneck was due to more maneuver ability and to distribute the load more on the center of the axles.. I also will be purchasing a bumper pull also so I can tow with other trucks in my fleet..
i needed to hear this about a gooseneck, i was really second guessing buying a bumper pull, glad i stuck to what i origianlly wanted which was a bumper pull
I agree with you about the truck and trailer system, a couple things you would like about a gooseneck would be the landing gear is much higher for those steep driveways and the gooseball has a higher weight rating for those unexpected heavy dumpsters. On the other hand the bumper pull rides better and keeping your truck bed empty for use is a big plus. Great video, I’ve been concerned about teaching/hiring a employee the trailer system thinking I might have made a mistake by not buying a truck that carries the dumpsters but it looks like you have a good team. Thanks for posting, best of luck closing out the year and hope next year you break records!
You don’t need a gooseneck, but a gooseneck pulls far superior than a bumper pull. They back up easier and tighter than a bumper pull, track better and can be rated higher than most bumper pull hitches
Good informative video, this was my first year I made $28000 in revenue with 2 dump trailers they are 40% paid off, this dump rental business was attractive to me because I can run it by myself I'm planning buying more dump trailer when I pay these off also yes is a lot of wear tear on equipment
I really want to dive in and start my own business but I know nothing about running a business and that is what has kept me from trying. How did you learn what all is entailed to get going? I appreciate any advice or direction.
The point of a gooseneck is to carry *more* weight because the tongue weight of your trailer is centered over your axle instead of at the very rear of the truck. Though I can't imagine how that would matter towing a dumpster that has under 2 ton in it
You got that right! It’s VERY capital intensive, we have a lot of money invested. There is no money being made with 1-2-3-4 dumpsters 😂, imo 15-17 dumpsters is where you start seeing some money but still not enough for a comfortable living. Good to see ya Justin, hope all is well.
ok, so in the context of this video, do you think it's better to get cable trailers and a truck rather than a hooklift truck and no trailer and matching containers? and i don't mean cost wise, i mean as far as performing the job.... should i avoid getting the hooklifts?
Great content. Live in Boise. A bit saturated. My 22 year old son is thinking about starting his own dumpster business with a 10 yard. Is it feasible to compete in this market? THanks
Hey Justin great video. Ive talked with you in the past. I have a dumpster business here in Kentucky and have been considering jumping into the 20s with the 16k trailer. I currently just run 10s with the 12k bumper pull 10ft rail trailer system. I have talked with some of the manufacturers like protainer/nedlands and they too recommend the gooseneck setup for the 16k trailer. I'm like you I'd rather not get it if it's not needed. I'd like having less weight more visibility and the bed space. They quoted me 2k extra for a gooseneck vs bumper pull which i thought seemed high. They said if I hauled the 10ft 10 yard containers the weight would be so far back it could increase the likelihood of sway especially if the weight was loaded in the very back. Most of my 10 yard loads are 1000 to 3000 lbs. I do rarely get shingles which have been up to 5 tons. Just wondered what your thoughts were on this situation with the shorter containers. Does 2k extra sound right? I'm like you I think you can definitely make money in this business especially with delayed gratification over a good amount of time. I really enjoy your content. Thanks for all the helpful advice.
I think the extra 2k for gooseneck is fair. It is not necessary at all in my opinion. The nedland goosneck is removable also so if you buy a bumper pull and decide you wanted a gooseneck you can buy the gooseneck and bolt it on after the fact
I really want to dive in and start my own business but I know nothing about running a business and that is what has kept me from trying. How did you learn what all is entailed to get going? I appreciate any advice or direction.
A gooseneck is way safer for pulling heavy loads they want cause a truck to sway and go out of control like a bumper pull thats why they are used not saying you have to have one but there is a big difference in the 2 been pulling both all my life been in a couple bad situations with bumper pull
Don't need commercial insurance if your vehicle is 10000 or less and doesn't have anything mounted or modified.. just went through my insurance and found that out
You could set over 10 dumpsters in a day if you had empty ones ready. to pick up,dump, and then take to customer in the same day we can do about 4. the dump hours limit us
@@Lifes_Apprentice that's pretty good. I run a tree service with a dump trailer. Our record was 8 loads but we were only 1 mile from the landfill. Landfill is free for brush. Our average is 2 or 3 loads a day. 3,500 lbs
a gooseneck trailer is a LOT easier on your truck, on heavy loads it makes a massive difference... because the weight is more centered over your chassis it distributes the burden to all 4 wheels, towing a heavy weight behind you may tip the back of your truck, putting a lot of pressure on the rear suspension.... that's the reason you hear about goosenecks so much... i don't like them, but that's the explanation
With you saying this business is “a get rich quick scheme” is 100% truly a myth. See so many guys jump in and think there dumpsters are going to rent everyday. I’m 20 years old I had some good folks invest a lot into my company. And I’m paying for it but I’ve been running a landscaping company for 3-4 years. They invested 55k for a brand new dumpster trailer and a good used truck. Making my 2nd loan payment tomorrow. $1100 a month is a lot but I landed one guy renting one 13 yard every week.
Good for you! I love hearing about young people starting businesses. I started my journey around 22 years old and it is a hard thing to do but it was the best decision I have ever made and with some hard work you can be anything you want!
The weight capacity with a gooseneck is a lot higher than with a bumper pull. Definitely check your vehicle weight limits with a gooseneck vs number pull.
In Texas no matter the weight of you vehicles 26001 or less. In Texas if you are being paid using the vehicle a CDL is required, period. I don’t know about other states.
You’re gonna pay 65000 for a gasser or 75’000 for a truck that’s gonna last 2x longer because it’s actually designed for towing 15k+ 😂 and will have 20’000 on the resale value retention
Really horrible advice for anyone coming in at entry level. Gas truck will get the crap beat out of it in this business overtime.. this biz emits a lot of wear and tear on your truck 2. Gooseneck trailers distribute the weight more stabile throughout the truck AND the load... hence, less wear and tear on your vehicle... but running with a trailer is amateur level. I did this. 3... mob, obviously you are not from the northeast or know many people in the industry. Glad you're doing well and theres plenty of ways to make money but this is horrible advice and a business won't have an easy time scaling off this model. This is the cheap way to start and grind hard to start over with new equipment.. doesn't have any merit to say that these other systems are "myths" when they save you money and time in the long run... more investments. Don't listen to bad advice like this.
You are the exact reason I made this video. People like you think you cant do it the way I am talking about. My business is proof that you can do it my way and make money at scale... Thanks for watching

All is well here! I agree. that 10-20 dumsters is where you can start making some good money
Any profit is good 1 or 5000
Great 1 Justin
The mob never gave price increases a large as those given lately by the nation-wide haulers.
The mob was more civilized than these large companies
Best video out there thank you

How do you handle hazardous waste? TV’s, paint cans, etc.
we try to avoid it but our dump will accept it. those items just need to go in a different area

I know every area is different but is there that much demand for these dumpster especially with housing slowing down.
In my area there is for sure...

If you have employees you do
not an issue but gooseneck is way better option for 20+ yard dumpsters
Where do you buy your trucks? Looking into the cost of a few trucks and trying to find new fords with gvwr 10k and roll off
Of course the mob owns the business that’s just the king of this business

When driving commercially pulling a trailer rated over 10k# requires a Class A CDL. Probably could run years before someone calls you on it though.
Pulling a trailer over 10k commercially requires DOT #s and commercial insurance but not a CDL
@@Lifes_Apprenticetell that to the state of Texas. Several states also say if it’s a 10K+ rated trailer you need a cdl

But you burn way more gas than diesel hauling all that heavy weight
no, they get same mileage
Say a trucks gvwr is 10,650 and your trailer is 14,000 but has 8k axle and the trailer was derated to the 14,000 is this possible 🤔

could I use a 1500 truck to pull and work this if I stay with 15 yard or smaller dumpster
I would not reccomend it
thanks.
Yeah, half tons are not as strong as they used to be. Only designed for the Karen to get Starbucks nowadays...

Can’t you get a Dually rated to 10k
I would imagine you could
Older ones have a lower gvwr. My 12 ram 3500 is 11k
With ford you can order it derated to 10,000 but has to be ordered not bought off the lot
