Ohman, so awesome to see those Ford Lehmans still in service. The good 'ol SD380 - 120HP. Know those like the back of my hand. We were the Ford Lehamn SoCal dealer back in the day, as well as CAT, Cummins, Onan and Borg Warner. I'm so delighted to see your vessel out cruising with these old motors. Gives me hope. We will be looking for another boat one day soon. We really like the True North 34OE, the Nordhaven N41 and the Aspen Cat C107. But I often entertain just getting an old GB or Nordhaven or even a Defever and just having a project boat. Love to hear more about yours. Love your video's.
About nothing breaking...find some wood and knock on it. Don't forget...it is a boat! One of my favorite sayings is "everything is broken on the boat...you just don't know it yet!" ;-) Your dedication to maintenance shows, however.
And the funny thing is we started the video and Amy and I were commenting how nice your decks look and that was before you said you were going to put new kiwi grip on. We went back and watched one of your early videos with the teak deck and it definitely looks a lot nicer now. Teak is nice but the way it looks now really brightens it up
Teal and Linh from Onboard Lifestyles would have a heart attack watching you kiwigrip. No tape, no sanding, no multiple coats. Omg...I love your door review. Good for you Jim...if they won't stand behind their product you are saving many people problems in the future.
I am sure they would! Actually for the original deck work there was a lot of sanding and taping. Kiwigrip is a rubber like compound and does not sand well. Thanks for watching, Jim
I enjoy small projects like these on our boat as I feel like I'm getting something done! I completely get why you are rightfully pissed about the door. Given the alternatives you face regarding the door, I'd do the same. Your focus on quality pays off with your Alaska to Mex journey with no significant breakage. Well done.
I have a solaire built in bbq only mine has the infrared in the rear and ceramic birquets underneath, I put tinfoil shiny side down on top the grill cover it completely and turn it up to max and leave it smokes and cleans everything up with little work..nice work
Nice job Jim, I can see the difference in the deck. You have really put together a nice cruiser. The capacity of the poop tank is fantastic, can’t find that in most trawlers for sale out there these days. Didn’t imagine there was much out there that could piss you off, such a squared away fellow, but yeah 10k plus for doors that came from the factory modded to work like that would send me through the roof.
Have you tried a small smooth foam roller (like 6" wide") for re-coating the KiwiGrip? Man that would piss me off too for the price of those doors and the wait time, I could hear it in your voice but you maintained well lol. What kind of major service do you do on your engines and how often? Thanks and have fun doing 'the little things' always nice to catch up.
So nice! QUESTION -- Are these super reliable engines and better than those new ones due to EPA attachments?? Also, do they each leak from the same place ie, is it a common issue and can it be remedied (my OCD may cause me to fix something that need not be fixed). Would you prefer new Beta Marine engines to these or are these that good?? One person mentioned that he could use John Deere engines on a trawler like this,
Personally, I think so. They are very basic naturally aspirated engines with no electronic parts. They are pretty bullet proof. We have just over 11,000 hour on them. New engines would be around $100K to have fully installed and burn twice the fuel. I could tear the engines down and replace the seals that leak a little, but the true experts say don't do so, just add oil as needed. Thanks for watching.
@@CruisingSeaVenture....that's excellent to hear and you are dead right about that. Last thing I want is complex computer everything problems and worse fuel efficiency. Love the sound of those engines (feel free to do an episode with nothing but engine sounds...) Also, let us know when you will be done travelling and we will happily take over! Any chance of doing SE Asia and all those islands ie like SV Delos did??
10 gs for the doors Poof i would of gone for wood duch doors for not even 1/2 the price >> and the company would not do anything Poof Ya pissed i would be and i would not put up with it
Grant, That is what we had . . . I wanted much stronger Aluminum watertight dutch doors. The cost was not a factor - If cost was a factor for Sea Venture, we would have had to have thrown in the towel many years ago. I didn't even mind there was a manufacturing mistake, it was the companies response the irritated me the most. The best they would do without returning the door (not an option), was give me a discount on my next purchase. Thanks for watching, Jim
Understood. The number and content of the ads is set by UA-cam / Google and is based in part on your UA-cam watch and Google search history. Personally, I do not like the ads and have not seen an ad on UA-cam in years. We have a premium membership - I think it cost about $14 per month. It then removes all ads from UA-cam. Thanks for watching, Jim

Great tip! Thanks, Jim
I love your boat. Y’all do a great job keeping it clean. When I grow up I wanna boat just like yours.

You’re the best, Jim. I need to hire a Jim for my future boat.
That’s a idea Jim you could invite a super fan to come wash sea venture 😊
You got free musica
There's always one thing constant on any boat: Maintenance.
Pretty much anything you own has maintenance.

I could have got a foam roller out. Either works. It goes pretty quick with the brush so I didn't bother. Thanks, Jim

I’m right there with you Jim.
The good, bad, ugly and sometimes boring, but still needs to be done.
