There are a lot of these example throughout the history of fighting sports. A recent one that comes to mind quickly that I thought would be included was Dan Ige fighting on a couple of hours notice or something like that at UFC 303 and doing a good job, winning the third round, even almost getting the finish in that third round. Maybe we'll get another video with these.
@@regonalderfonolper5565 It was a unanimous decision lol. That's not a close decision at all, a close decision is a split decision. All three judges said he got beat. That's literally going the distance...

Jimmy Smith made a good point. Being the heel only works when you're winning. If you're trading wins and losses, you need the audience behind you to keep you in there.
I see Dustin vs Islam as the ultimate victory in defeat example. Because it’s not just a case of DP’s stock rising as a result of doing wayyy better than most of us expected (I say that as a huge DP fan but a realist, Islam is the clear p4p number 1 currently). It’s more that it just felt like such a profound and satisfying encapsulation of an elite career, the operatic drama of being a fan favourite hall of famer pure paid in full warrior who STILL fell short of champ status, it’s just so bittersweet and grounding and I thought he should have retired then and there in the midst of a epic but good-natured sporting moment where the good will sentiment for Dustin could not have been higher.
Hated Ian Garry, but the man earned a fan out of me that night. I will never like his pre-fight antics, but you best believe I won't miss the chance to see him fight ever again.

That Shavkat vs Ian fight made me realize there's no reason for me to hate Ian. I was hating on Ian because the internet does and it influenced me. Now all I have is respect for Ian. Took the fight on short notice, lost his 0, but he made Shavkat look human and he took the loss like a man.
The title "when losing feels like winnkng." And then I see Khalil Rountree, are we being serious right now? Sure, the guy fought hard against Poatan but...after he started to take those shots and can't defend himself, I just felt pity bro, I was like, "come on corner, throw in the damn towel"
He showed the world he deserved to fight Alex though. First man to drop him at 205. And Khalil was within an inch to landing clean on Alex. The conversation around the fight was crazy, everyone thought Khalil didn’t stand a chance. The top comments on the announcement post was “Alex by ritualistic sacrifice. Alex by left hook submission in the first ten seconds.” People thought it would be a one sided slaughter, but Khalil won the first two rounds convincingly, and had a very close 3rd before gassing. He was also throwing to the very end. He went out on his shield when everyone thought he would be out on the canvas in the first round. If the fight wasn’t at altitude he maybe even could have gotten to the 5th round and slugged out a decision. If taking the most dangerous strikers in the history of MMA through the mud isn’t a moral victory i don’t know what is.
Team Khalil since day 1! I became a fan of Khalil when i first saw him fighf Erik Anders. And im so happy Khalil darn near almost shook up the world, and went out on his shield.
When Nate rocked leon and pointed and laughed instead of going for the kill i almost ran through my tv in anger and i had money on leom but love nate wish i lost that bet
There is no comparison between those two fights. Roundtree only made into the 4th because Pereira let him tire himself out for two rounds, he was nearly finished at the end of the 3rd when the bell rang. That fight was pure slaughter. Garry on the other hand had Shavkat clinching him for nearly 3 rounds.
Dude, Im as big a Poatan fanboy you'll find, and yet even I have to admit that you can clearly see Alex go limp for a split second. I mean, it was almost as long as Jiri's drop in their first fight when he then started panic wrestling. The strikes you don't see coming are the ones that tend to drop you, and that was a perfect example of that. It barely connected, but Alex wasn't ready for it, after all he took a clean head kick a minute later, even slightly ducked into it and yet that didn't phase him the way that counter from Khalil did. Even take that one drop away, they guy still landed better and more strikes on Alex than anyone at 205 yet while eating shots that ko'd the two previous opponents for 4 rounds until his body finally gave way. Yes, Alex was sick going in, but still - that dude deserves all the respect in the world after that performance.
If that was the best, Ian Gary, it’s actually pathetic 99.9% of grapplers in the UFC would’ve finished that fight when they got that rear naked choke and Gary just kept looking at the ceiling while readjusting his hands even though he had a pretty decent grip and could’ve got a jaw squeeze submission but no he had to go and fumble the bag. I would love to see him in the ring with someone that actually knows what they’re doing on the ground. He’s just getting cherry picked fights exactly like Alex not gonna put them against anyone that actually knows what they’re doing on the ground because they want him to be extremely popular and make them a shit ton of money.
Ian is a loud mouth but most casuals just assumes he's a Heel because he's Irish like Connor and people loves to ride on Sean and Colby's slanders and dunk on Ian. Ian is actually a likable persona and he stands on business but now that he showed it they reversed the script into "Shakvat was just a hype train" instead of actually admitting Ian is actually that good
that nate diaz punch is the most overrated and as “memorable” as people claim it to be people often forget that after the first taunt a wobbled leon was bobbing and weaving all of nate’s following strikes making him miss and once nate couldn’t land again he proceeded to act like he wasn’t trying
Ian Garry saying that about Shavkat is crazy because he was undefeated too saying that he was better and to say that’s a moral victory doesn’t sit well with me. To me it means that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a champ. I think he’s very good but after that fight and those comments it shows me that he won’t become a champ.
@@Vikn01 the reasons I believe it does, is because the point of this video is bridging the gap, especially on short notice. Volk made islam look human, only for Islam to go back to Greek mythology on the sequel. Thus making the fight ineligible, for purposes for this video.
