For me, this the best rock/pop song ever written and performed. Catchy from the first note. As some one else said, it never gets old. Marshall is one of my favorites. A true singer/songwriter/player.
Love this song. Always have. The 1982 lp is one of my favorite overall albums (the one with Someday, Someway). Marshall, wherever you are, thanks for the music. You helped me get through a lot of rough times in the early '80s!
It's impossible to talk about Marshall without mentioning that he is one of music's most underrated contributors of all time. Such a shame that he's not a household name.
Thank you for posting this great video. The fact that Marshall Crenshaw isn't a household name as one of the greatest musicians of all time is an injustice.
THANK YOU so much for this song. I agree he never took off. He is a regional hit here on the east coast. I saw him perform in Hoboken New Jersey about 5 years ago. A truly underrated singer.
I've been waiting over 20 years to see this video again. This song and the entire Field Day album was one of the only reasons I made it through High School. THANKS so much for posting! This song is very, very special to me!
wow. one of the first music vdo I ever saw. I'm from Thailand and remember being in Grade 2. Fell in love with the song and the girl right away too. One of my all-time favorites. And yes, agree that this is one of the most underrated songs ever. MC rocks. He should have been an international star. Thanks for posting it.
I love this song. This is a great album. My favorite song, though, is called "Our Town" (I think that's what it's called). It's the second song on the album and it's incredible. I still listen to it often and it really makes me think of "my path to adult hood". It's simply and outstanding song that has stood the test of time. I was hoping to find a clip of that tune...though I'll take this nugget of goodness any day!
I grew up in the Midwest and I certainly knew him. He never became a star, but then, maybe he was never destined to be a star. He's a great songwriter and musician. His debut disc is just one great song after another, and he had several good discs after that.
I recently just discoverd this guys music I recently heard his whole album the MArshall crenshaw album that came out in 83 and im 27 that whole C.D is amazng and so sounds simple my favorite songs are rocking around N.Y.C there she goes again cynical girl and someday someway and ill do anything for you great music.
Great video and song. I remember watching it on MTV when it first came out during the early 80's. MTV was cool then... I've always wonder who was that beautiful blonde on the video. She has a gorgeous smile.
I have to agree. He is a very underated singer. He still performs here on the East Coast. Saw him about 5 years ago in Hoboken, NJ. Never seemed more than a regional hit. Sad.
Ive been looking for this song forever. Very happy this was found on here.Wow this takes me way back. (shows how old I am hu?) Kinda goofy but great song. Reminds me of one of my girlfriends from long ago. Thanks, Ivn4life
One of my very favorite 1980s videos. MC puts on an excellent live show, too--Got to see him from the front row of the Camden Opera House in Camden, ME a few years ago.
Isn't it hard to believe that MC was already 30 when he made his second record back in 1983? He still rocks the house to this day....check him out if he rolls thru your town.
Ronnie Spector did a good version of this in 1989, released on her Crenshaw tribute EP "Something's gonna happen" in 1999. Super fine stuff but I must say MC's phrasing and timing is something extraordinary! Underbart!
You know what would be great, if they filmed both Marshal and this gal today, maybe they would be dancing close together, and make most of the video look like a flashback. The point would be that love endures even as they get older.
Part if MC's lack of success in reaching a wider audience is MTV and looking like the rest of us. John (Cougar) Mellencamp, for one, made some great stuff and took it for granted the girls thought he was a hottie. Marshall was VH1, where he could get away with being plain along with other underappreciated talents. I didn't have much against VH or AC/DC, but still liked hearing a decent pop song and loved that somebody knew how to write a few.
74BMW, back in the old days there was not a lot of money, plus the concept of a music video was way new and directors still were trying to figure out what to do with the then new film form. Hence the many early 80s videos that made no sense...
This is one terrific pop song. But I disagree that MC has been underrated. By who? The music industry? The same industry that hypes undertalented, overrated nonsense from manufactured pop stars who don't know a guitar from a banana. It seems to me that MC has found the audience he was looking for, and we think he's the best!

This song one of the most under-rated gems of the great 80's.....
Love this song so much! I think it's his best song - it should have been a huge hit.
One of my all-time favorites. If I ever got married, I'd pay him to play this at my wedding.
Thank you for posting this great video. The fact that Marshall Crenshaw isn't a household name as one of the greatest musicians of all time is an injustice.

Surprised nobody has commented on this yet. Wonderful upbeat song, and many thanks for posting it.
Oh, Marshall Crenshaw... how I have adored you since I was a small child! This song never gets old.

Heard this on the radio last night and couldn't believe how great it still sounded, nearly 30 years after I first heard it on WLLZ.
This has been my favorite song since high school..a long long time ago. Thank you so much for posting this!
I saw him at lupo's in Providence in 1982 and was hooked..in fact a Hook in every tune...great Songs all...Miss ya M!
I grew up in the Midwest and I certainly knew him. He never became a star, but then, maybe he was never destined to be a star. He's a great songwriter and musician. His debut disc is just one great song after another, and he had several good discs after that.
This was the song and video that made me an MC fan 25 years ago. Thanks so much for posting!

Forgot about this one. Thanks for posting it. I, too, was in love with the girl back in 1983. Love the song.

Kinda goofy but great song. Reminds me of one of my girlfriends from long ago.

Hm, I just randomly stumbled upon this, and it's rather tasteful!
GREAT post
SUCH a good album. Christ..

Yep, his best song!
The good old innocent 80's.
....and he's a HELLAVA nice guy too!!!...
...REAL QUALITY FELLOW!
What a song!!!!! then and now...
Classic Track,thanks for uploading
That song (Till I Hear It From You) really has the MC sound, too. I could even picture him singing it himself-he has the perfect voice for it.
Isn't it hard to believe that MC was already 30 when he made his second record back in 1983? He still rocks the house to this day....check him out if he rolls thru your town.
MC = Deeply, Tragically Underrated!!!!
A great song and what a model!
Back when videos were fun.
I just heard a few songs from the mc album and all of them are pretty cool.
Super-Fantastic Song!

Seriously, you look up "melancholy" in the dictionary and it refers you to this song. Crenshaw is a true romantic.
yeah man...right on.
Wow, this video was shot in England. Bit of a surprise.

Cant believe i found this song!!! I love it!! didnt a female do a version of it also? if so does anyone know who did?
great pop song...cant stand his solo tours...so depressing I walked out after a couple of songs...I love mc though
Isn't that the same blond in Planet P's video, "Why Me"
He has been married to his wife, Ione, since 1978. =)
Anyone who channels Buddy Holly is full of win and awesome in my book, haha ^_^
The female in the video is maybe Rebecca de Mornay of 'Risky Business' movie fame.
whos is the girl in the video?

I've wondered for nearly 30 years: Who's the cute girl?
