I remember reading the book in college, then seeing this movie. MANY good parts and major characters left out, I was pissed! Then this scene....BLOWN AWAY! I forgave the movie and it's now a classic.
The main problem with this is that unlike nowadays, where they take a big book, such as "Dune", and split it into two movies, they went in the opposite direction and blended "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" into one movie, with many of the scenes that would have provided better continuity ending up on the cutting room floor. And the part I didn't like is how they changed Lestat's origin story. Perhaps AMC will correct these errors, since they seemed to have done well with their revise "Interview with the Vampire" series.
@@martykarr7058 I love the book/s, but QotD is more series of short stories vaguely connected than a single narative, at least as as far as filming it goes. The film did the best it could with that. Despite all the changes and omisions (like making aksasha much much NICER) It did a lot right. Townsend was a great Lestat and the guy who played Marius was great also. And obviously Aaliyah was dam fine as Akasha. Everyone did a fine job.
@@jamesmaybrick2001 Yes, Townsend did better than Cruise, but "Interview" was from Louis perspective, where the balance of the Chronicles is from Lestat's perspective. And I just saw a sneak peek of season 2 of "Interview", and it looks like they might vary farther than season 1, and that has to do with starting the story probably close to a century later than the book.
She was amazing and one can feel the total disdain to all around her in just the way she looks and moves. There were some great scenes like this one and if the whole script and story line had been better woven the movie could have succeeded much much more. I also feel sorry for the early loss of such a multi talented person.

@@rafaelarcas942 She has been asleep/dormant for thousands of years. The clothes she is wearing are in a style reminiscent of her time and are more ceremonial than practical as she has basically been a living statue up until her awakening. She was queen of Khemet, which later became Egypt. In a warmer climate and as a royal this kind of clothing isn't too bizarre (although I won't say it's historically accurate). As a vampire she isn't affected by temperature, and as queen of the damned she can wear whatever she likes. I highly recommend the Vampire Chronicles books by Anne Rice.
think Bram Stoker's Dracula was where the whole "sexually alluring" thing came from with vampires, so blame him. I do agree that it would be nice getting a movie with vampires simply being immortal blood thirsty monsters and getting rid of the whole sexual aspect. Wouldn't sell as well, but it still would be nice to get a strictly monster movie type of Vampire movie.
Despite Akasha in the books being the color of alabaster, whenever I re-read Queen of the Damned I vividly visualize Akasha as she is in the movie. The movie had major problems, but Aaliyah knocked it out of the park and I'm grateful they didn't whitewash her even if it would technically be more book accurate. Intoxicatingly beautiful, aloof and terrifying, that's Akasha's thing, and Aaliyah nailed it. Her costume is also immaculate and spectacular to look at, and I especially appreciate the headdress she wears. It's a reference to how Marius dressed Akasha during her time in Christian Rome and Venice. She wore a veil and crown back then that evoked the image of the Virgin Mary's halo.
@@zoiksgoiks7901 I think the reason for that is that the movie is simply too short to delve into Akasha’s multi-millennia history is an ancient pre-Egyptian Khemeti tribeswoman so it was simpler to show her with a North African skin tone than talk about it in a painfully short exposition dump. This movie would be Lord of the Rings length if they stuck to the book. Would love to see it redone in full detail. The book is 600 pages and half that is Akasha’s history as a North African tyrant.
Aaliyah really embodied one of the most iconic performances in vampire filmmaking. It still breaks my heart that she's gone. She is irreplacable.

Though the movie was not really my favorite, she truly embodies the queen as I imagined her in the book
She was amazing in everything she did as an actress and in music
I love when the burning vampires come flying out of the bar and she walks thru the fire like a boss
@@martykarr7058 I never said he did better. They were both great.
I love this scene! It's so hypnotic
My favorite scene in the movie. Miss Aaliyah as she was great artist and played role well.
She was the best queen vampire.. but imagine back then films were so fricking amazing no cgi. Just pure talented directors and actors.
She was amazing and one can feel the total disdain to all around her in just the way she looks and moves. There were some great scenes like this one and if the whole script and story line had been better woven the movie could have succeeded much much more. I also feel sorry for the early loss of such a multi talented person.
How I miss her! A great young artist😊
The critics and fans of The Vampire Chronicles panned this movie, but I fn loved it the first time I saw it. Who cares if Stuart Townsend didn't have blond hair, he was the perfect Lestat, and Aaliyah gave a performance for the ages, RIP.
She was my first black girl crush.. Amazing in every way..
Lol why you felt the need to call her race out??? It's obvious she is black but why even mention race??? Just say you had a big crush on her without putting race into it 🙄😒
Still a brilliant scene. Watching this when it was released, made my mouth drop open in 'awe' at her. :)
Oh,she was just stunning!
Una de mis escenas favoritas de esta película junto con la de Lestat tocando el violín en la playa...
Yes mines too❤
and the music in this movie SLAPS and completely sets the feel and tone of the film.
I remember this movie because of her dance ❤❤❤
Dancing like she's not about to kill them all.
Yes a tragedy losing her years ago and her performance was awesome in this and of course she was Smoking HOT.
Akasha 😍 Will always be the Queen
She was so beautiful, and such an amazing talent!
Peace to Aaliyah… 😞
When she walks out through the flames and has that look out here I come look.totally awesome!
My favorite scene from one of my favorite films. They all think that they are so badass, then she walks in.
Aaliyah was perfect for this role I was saddened at her death. RIP.
Loved her in this.
I've watched this a hundred times it never gets old she's hot.
She is an antediluvian.
That's why she is so powerful and kills other lesser vampires.
I hope someday (THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED) stories could be made into a show series.
concordo, a história deveria ser explorada mds
Looking at the treatment of other franchises I actually dread this....
Hollywood, today, can't be trusted to not screw it up.
Incredible performance! What a captivating queen!
It's been 21 years since I watched this film, and this is the only scene i remember.
Her movements are so sexy and seductive, calculated and precise, her powers are god lvl, and her appetite for destruction and pain is insatiable, I love this character, one of the best vampires to ever grace the silver screen, RIP Queen!!!...
Мой любмый фильм и любмый момент были в юности. Смотрела миллионы раз!!! ❤
Utterly stunning & most regal... RIP Queen Aaliyah👑❤❤🌹🌹🌹❤❤
Is that what u are going to do, that line gets me every time 😂😂😂😂❤❤
She was a goddess in my world.😢
She is so phenomenal 😢😢😢
vampires used to be scary . Now , they still are but they made them too sexy or too imature like disturbing teenagers in adult's body .
she rips the heart out of a man's chest and she isn't scary?
🤨
@@Nisselak she’s scary for sure but honestly is there a specific or even logical reason about why that character doesn’t wear many clothes in her ?
@@rafaelarcas942 She has been asleep/dormant for thousands of years. The clothes she is wearing are in a style reminiscent of her time and are more ceremonial than practical as she has basically been a living statue up until her awakening. She was queen of Khemet, which later became Egypt. In a warmer climate and as a royal this kind of clothing isn't too bizarre (although I won't say it's historically accurate). As a vampire she isn't affected by temperature, and as queen of the damned she can wear whatever she likes.
I highly recommend the Vampire Chronicles books by Anne Rice.
@@psychedelicpegasus7587 right . Thanks for the info . It sure is beyond my comprehension that aspect about reminisced style from thousand years ago.
think Bram Stoker's Dracula was where the whole "sexually alluring" thing came from with vampires, so blame him. I do agree that it would be nice getting a movie with vampires simply being immortal blood thirsty monsters and getting rid of the whole sexual aspect. Wouldn't sell as well, but it still would be nice to get a strictly monster movie type of Vampire movie.
What every woman has deep deep deep down running in our veins . We all have a little Akasha in us . ❤❤
Shhhh. Lol
so much black leather and eye liner in one scene by comparison akasha is fairly vibrant.
Such a beautiful creature..
I'm still in love with her.
She was so beautiful RIP 🥺🥺🥺
this scene blew me away
This movie is the best RIP AALIYAH 💔😘
Queen Queen she is and always will be.. Rest in heaven beautiful queen 🖤🖤🖤
This movie will always be one of my favorites. The sound track, the vampires, Aaliyah. It was my baby bat intro to the goth subculture.
She destroyed the bad guys 😆 😊😊
Descansa en paz mi reina.
She commands respect
Awesome movie and a badass soundtrack every song fits the movie
Her pyrokenetic hand flourishes are iconic on their own
It's my favorite scene. RIP Queen
Yes, she and I have the same kind of crown 👑
The patrons don’t recognize Aaliyah is basically their mother, their Eve?
Iconic movie entrance. Watch and learn.
Watching Akasha stalk, and sway, is everything.
