Using the cooler method myself, and have found that letting the ice sit out for 10 min +/- (temper) makes the cutting into blocks much easier. Then put in a ziplock bag (trying to keep them in a single layer.)
Great tip! This is also why I don't force it out of the cooler - the 15 mins it takes to release naturally helps temper it pretty well. Also great tip on the bags - it's worth noting these can be refrozen and kept forever and they will stay clear.
I put my clear ice blocks on a bar mat. That prevents the ice from sliding all over the place and it's MUCH safer when cutting.

As long as it works that's all that matters! I go to the silicone molds often, since they can be thrown in the freezer and forgotten about.
