It was 1981 that I last saw Mark O'connor with The Dregs! He was 19 y.o. when he played on "Industry Standard"... Absolutely fabulous and Allen Sloan is gracious and pretty impressed too judging from his "wow" at the end! Awesome, can't wait ...5 shows in my future next week!
Saw that tour as well...he played guitar as well, trading licks with Steve...
@@rickthaler , yup, I saw them too that year!
AWESOME 🦋 God bless the unsung heroes 💐🌹🪻
Alan showing lots of respect here. Love this.
Saw the Dregs about 30 times, and probably about 7-8 times with Mark. I always thought it would be too cool to see Mark & Dr. Sloan jam. I finally got my wish.
Wow! :)
What if is a favorite of mine.found a record at Wuxtry records and tapes in Decatur autographed by Alan many moons ago. I love I love Mark O'Connor I never missed an episode of American music shop in the early nineties. Mark played the Grand Ole Opry with Maggie last night, August 31st. I used to see the Dixie drags play at Rumors. Do you remember that place?
I was there! Loved every minute of the show and you being there Mark was like the icing on a cake! Sweet!!
Saw this tour 2 days later in DC. Great show but sadly Mark O'Conner wasn't there. A few days after DC show they were in New York and John Scofield & Warren Haynes played with the Dregs.. DC missed out.
for me
this is for sure 1 of the best and the BEAST country music ever be on this planet.
You are one of the all time greats, Mark. As a mandolinist I really appreciate your work there, but you are also one of the great rock/country fiddlers.
Awesome! Great to see you guys together!
Holy moly- wish I'd been in the audience for that one!
I first saw Mark at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus on Sept. 15, 1979 but not with the Dregs. Mark was the featured guitarist (NOT the violinist) in Dave Grisman's band with the headliner being the great gypsy jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. I believe Mark was 19 at the time. The high point of the concert was when Mark did a violin duet with Stephane!...on the song "Tiger Rag".
I had already seen the Dregs, the first time being July 25, 1979 at The Roxy in Hollywood. Saw the Dregs many times since (I believe it's going on 20 times) but only one time with Mark as a "Dreg". That was in San Diego, CA at The Bacchanal on Aug. 4, 1981. "Rock & Roll Park" was a high point with Steve and Mark doing a guitar duel with Mark on a black Les Paul and Steve on Frankenstein. Mark also introduced Steve to an old Texas fiddle tune that night, called "Limerock".
Mark was scheduled to be with the Dregs at Mandeville Auditorium on the campus of UC San Diego at La Jolla on Jan. 6, 1983, but Mark had already quit the Dregs.
I've seen Mark several other times since then. I've seen the Dixie Dregs, The Dregs, The Steve Morse Band, Steve solo all of which I believe adds up to 20 gigs!
"The Bash" is awesome with Mark and the complete original Dixie Dregs!
Matt G. Mark well he plays a mean guitar too.
One of my favourite Grapelli albums is the one with David Grisman's band featuring MOC on guitar. Mark and Stephane play a magnificent fiddle duet version of Tiger Rag.
Wow and double wow! Hats off to the host violinist too. Any other violinist would have melted right there.
What many people don't realize is that Music isn't Allen's profession. He is a anesthesiology specialist.
I met Allen in Dallas, and he was such a down-to-earth, humble genius. I love his enthusiasm for the music! Also, I feel the same about Mark.
Battle of the violins, definitely unusual, and I love it!
That is simply awesome!
Mark, Incredible Show.. Wish I could of been there ...so much fun...
Wow, thanks Mark , for sharing that !
Saw the Dregs in the 80's at the Vogue in Indianapolis. They came in 45 min to an hour late, something about "couldn't find parking". The audience was pissed and some actually booed them. Fifteen minutes into the music all was forgotten. They lifted the roof that night.
Now we know...this band was always great.
Yeah...”Wow.” And that’s American music, folks. 🤠❤️
Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar... Lol - the drummer was levitating!
The Dixie Dregs back in the day were one of my favorite bands. Today it’s the O’Connor Band
Yep, just saw both the Dregs there in Charleston and O'Connor Band 2 weeks later in York. Great Month!!!!
Unbelievable!!!!
Holy hootenanny!
WoW ! ~
Steve Morse!
why not put the whole show on
Tommy got that Right! hehehe! Amazing!
I like the watch check
Where is old steve morse
How did T die?
How great is this? I just shared a great audio of these guys (with T Lavitz) in 1981 at the Rainbow Hall in Denver. One thing that stands out in that tape is the sheer excitement of the crowd. I think today's crowds are very quiet and sedate by comparison (we're 42 years older, I know I've changed), and maybe because younger people can no longer afford to go to shows. Nice job Maggie from backstage, a tough place to record from. Here's the Denver show, love you Mark.

Who is playing keys?
Steve Davidowski, the Dregs' original keyboardist. He's on their first album, Free Fall.
The All is three
Apparently I'm the only 63 year old stoned person commenting on perfection
And yes I be been drinking
Then god said we need mothing
Yeah last week so what
Then god became two,
Mark's been a great fiddler for a long time. Here is a clip of him playing on the Porter Wagoner show as a kid, back in the seventies. As you can see from this recent clip, he hasn't lost a step. Great seeing him playing with Alan

He was a big reason the Dregs were the best rock n' roll instrumental band ever. I really liked his mandolin playing back in the day, he was one of the best.
