I noticed 32 people disliked this video! what idiots! they have no clue who Levon Helm was. This is a man who gave us 10 more years after throat cancer and won 3 Grammy's in that time. So insane to dislike this video; most likely because it doesn't have rainbows and stars in it
Under the age of 30 clueless and somehow seem proud of it,fake tans fake Boobs ungrateful inform on God to beat a J Walking Pinch.Damn I hope my daughter doesn't have kids other than Adoption it's over Planet Self is imploding
lucy dart Some people hear this music and think it’s some kind of hillbilly music. It’s sounds simple because it’s acoustic instruments but it’s sophistication comes in its simplicity. It takes someone with an ear to to appreciate this type of music and not everyone has that ability.
In the early '60's as a teenager I used to see Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks at the Summer Garden in Port Dover,Ontario.Levon was the drummer and he was a master at vocal backphrasing. He is playing bass drum, snare, ride and hihat cymbals and fills and then can add this 5th rhythmic dimension with his voice which,as a musician,I know is an amazing feat.Any university that has a music program should study this amazing man and what he has contributed to the world of music .He's a rhythmic genius.
I fell in love with his voice when I was 16 years old. Must have watched "The Last Waltz" a hundred times. A good friend sent me this link today shortly after Levon's death was announced. What an odd little film. The musical sections are GREAT! RIP Levon. I'm going out to buy this album tomorrow.
Today my sister, my dear friend of childhood passed this world of cancer, quite swift and quick.I find, as always ,comfort just in the sound of Levon's voice
I have always loved this man's singing. Listening to him is like going home. It doesn't matter what the song is about. Just the sound is warming to the heart, like family.
i was lucky to see him perform @ Gill's farm october 09. great show, wonderful man. he reached out & shook my hand as he was getting on his bus after the show. i'll never forget his smile RIP, my brother.
An Arkansas Boy from Cottton Plant, Ar to Turkey Scratch, Ar.-Home of Levon Helm Wish all Listeners of this Great Video a Great Year--Your Soul Moving Music will Live on LEVON...
Dirt Farmer is absolutely my favorite album of all time. I agree with other comments about Levon's voice and style. His soul is connected to the land. Peace to all
How could anyone not like Levon Helm. What an inspiration to me as an artist . I see the world through as being vintage. The old way of life. We need to go back to this in America. To God , Family, History.
Love this video. Levon was a natural in front of the camera just like he was behind those drums. Speaking of drums, what a sweet Slingerland set and Miss Amy played 'em pretty nice on "Got Me a Woman" while her daddy strummed that mandolin. Larry Campbell is a badass guitarist/fiddler and his wife is a hell of a singer too!
I wish I had something profound to say about a man who was so profound to me.But I aint got nothin. When folks like Levon go home I just get profoundly sad...We needed him to stay....But here we are ....I believe in my heart that hes free from this shit and is now writing and singing for people who may need him more..nite my friend..Ill see you again.
I love it that this is a family affair rest in peace LeVan. Your legacy will live on your family is so talented like you were they are going to do a big thanks to God I hate a word to Text what I really want to tell you is that your family is very talented and you have left such a legacy and your children are so talented. Watching you and the great waltz got me through a lot of hard times rest in peace LeVan you deserve peace more than anybody I know
Old levon if you didn't know who he was and met him you would think he was just an poor old dirt farmer but he had good old country common sense and good hearted soul "GOD BLESS LEVON"
God has lifted you heaven, you will no longer feel the pain that you have felt the past few year's, My prayers are with your family.God bless you and rest in peace.
My heart aches, tears are flowing. I saw Levon in concert in Charlottesville, VA not too long before he died. He was so sick then, but gave an excellent performance.
Levon Helm is an American icon in the music industry.I watched Levon with Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks in the early '60's at the Summer Gardens in Port Dover,Ontario and he was stellar as a drummer and singer !
im 24 years old since june 23rd. and ive grown up on the music of The Band. and i cant wait to get Helm's new albulm. i just hope it comes out on a vinyl record so i can add it to my record collection.
I just love him and all that he stands for! He is probably the most underrated jewel of the Hudson Valley. They should name one of the Catskill peaks after him. A mountain in his honor is minimally sufficient for this mans contribution to our country and our Hudson Valley. Love you Levon from Poughkeepsie, NY. "Helm's Hill" sounds good to me! We'll see you on the 30th at The Barn Levon! Thank you for offering your home again and again to spill over the cup that holds my soul.
I still remember this: "What Would Levon Play? Truly God has the most loved drummer known. Sit on the lap of the Father and guide us left here, "still trying to play Like Levon."
Levon's two dirt farmer albums, Ray LaMontagne's God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise, Dylan's Time Out of Mind (plus outtakes), and the Steeldrivers record are the best Americana music in 30 years.
Kind of like an introduction to me (and You) into the other players art. This may seem like 20 minutes is long, but it goes by so quick you can't get over it. You just want to hit replay... It also let the The Levon Helm first album with Larry, and I think they definitely get it right. Larry is not as intense as Levon. But Levon was diagnosed by this time. The intimate story line is that to understand Levon, you have to put it in your own perspective. The storyline is somewhat disjointed, but the parts with Mr. Gill and Iwo Jima are priceless... there is nothing cooler in the world than Levon on his tractor doing "spinouts? and waving to whoever or no one, just joyous to be helping Mr, Gill. I love that they think about average Americans.
love you levon. you inspired me and helped raise me right believe it. YOU ARE GOING TO BRIGHTEN HEAVEN. SAW YOU LAST summer awesome sorry cant see you this year. see you in heaven BELIEVE THAT THANKS, JOE
Wonderful Man! Truly blessed and willingly shared his blessings. Lord if you could spare one drop of his talent and goodness, I'd be forever grateful....Rock on my Brother!
...Levon Helm is an inspiration -- as relevant now as in The Band's heyday, if that's possible. Unmistakable groove, voice of pure soul... with an integrity that shines through every frame of this short film. thanks much to the uploader. pilgrims all...
Great music. The mix keeps the vocal right up front where it belongs, and each instrument is balanced just right. Great video, too. Perfectly expresses the mood of Levon's music. The only thing I didn't get was the title, since that song is not on the video. Still, not a video to miss.
I played Dirt Farmer for 2 years solid.....a wonderful record....I saw The Last Waltz when I was a little boy...about 5 or 6.....back in the late 70s when you had just one premium movie channel...like HBO or Showtime it might have been....on the weekends I was allowed to fall asleep on the couch....I woke up very late, or very early....The Last Waltz came on....I remember the Play This Movie Loud part especially....I remember thinking this is adult music....I remember loving every song and not understanding why.....years later I forgot about this....but always loved music and play guitar... When I saw it again....I was in my late teens.... I had a strong feeling of deja vu....then I realized I had seen all of it before.... An awesome feeling came over me... Like this is my kind of music....these are my kind of people....
I'm amazed to see how well Levon is playing and looking. It's defintely my faouritve Band solo album. I hope the have a statue in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas honouring him.
Top bloke, just ordered the album. Never realised he had passed. Saw him in a film once and thought he seemed very real. Respects for posting this excellent film. God bless him.
Thanks so much for posting this, Man. I didn't get familiar with Levon until he was dying. Every single posting I watch, people talk about how much they Love and Miss him, like no other artists I see. That's a Great way to go home, I have to say!!!
Wow, his acting is really great in this! RIP Levon. I find it encouraging to feel so close to someone I've never met in person, and I'm not really afraid of death, seeing how Levon dealt with it.
Mr Helm , thank you so much, i`m from a small town in Arkansas, and your so right. Funny and kinda an ironic twist to the video you did here is my fathers name is Mr. Gill and there was a man named Sammy who worked for him years ago. Sammy passed away long ago, but i felt like you were on our farm talking to my Dad. he lost his farm in the 80s with the drought. Sad, so many went under, that year.
My brother Connell knew Levon and Ronnie Hawkins back in ‘61 in Fayetteville Ar where he went to school. Jammed and hung out at Hawkin’s Rockwood Club on College Avenue!
Levon just kept on hangin on with a positive attitude and kept being productive and creative when things got tough.I will do the same.I sure miss you brother.
I love this short film so much. It features everything that made Levon great. From his masterful drum skills, amazing quotes, lead vocals in only the way that he could sing and even him driving a tractor, what a video! I am curious, however, what the significance of this video is? Can someone please elaborate what this is supposed to be about? “My hometown is gone. I mean...it’s, it’s just gone. All them little old cotton towns down in south Arkansas, they’re just gone. There ain’t been a new bridge, or a road, or a school. The only thing they build is jailhouses.”
Really good. Dirt farmer is the first album i have bought in over 2 years! If you have a chance to catch Levon on concert go for it as it is really worth the money, especially if you can get to one of his rambles!
It just occurred to me that Levon left this earth just six days before I had my bone marrow transplant. RIP Levon! And yes you made your mark heck you're immortal cause nobody's ever going to forget you!
Its 2019-almost 8 years since Levon went to be with our Lord and Savior--His Music is still Strong in the Minds and Hearts of his Followers...
2020 and I listen now more than ever.
Amen... 2024 and I get a bunch of inspiration for my clawhammer playing from Levons music.
I always get a bit emotional when I listen to Levon. RIP.
He ain't dead. He lives on in this music
Me too❤
Same.
Even to a Spanish guy as me, this icon of American roots music gets you right in your soul
Isn't it interesting how music from the heart and soul transcends backgrounds?
That is very true.
He sure made his mark on musical history, what a voice, a true artist and everyday I thank god I was here at just the right time to listen .
I as well.
I noticed 32 people disliked this video! what idiots! they have no clue who Levon Helm was. This is a man who gave us 10 more years after throat cancer and won 3 Grammy's in that time. So insane to dislike this video; most likely because it doesn't have rainbows and stars in it

Fantastic , I miss levon so much!😢
I SWEAR ! 😡😭
That's Great. Thank You.
Levon. What a beautiful soul. Damn.

That's why he is my favorite drummer of all time!
Ronnie Hawkins is from Northwest Arkansas.
There are certain distinctive voices that are unforgettable… for me the great Levon Helm is one of them RIP Levon

Such a great artist, an incredible brave man. And what a voice! He still sang beautifully, after all the trials he had to come through.

Miss Levon so much.

Amazing voice and music and backing vocals performed by outstanding musicians,
God Bless and Thanks for the music. I'll always remember how much fun he was having on stage, a real classic showman.
I have this CD and can't stop playing it. If it were a vinyl record, it would already be wearing out. Awesome!

You made your mark Lavon, big time. Now you have gone home, to our lose, and your gain.
His drumming is so perfect catch it 10:00 minutes in
Great little 'movie'.....wish it was about 2 hours longer!
i really love it when they asked him if they play music and he said "we try, we try".
Levon just kept on hangin on with a positive attitude and kept being productive and creative when things got tough.I will do the same.I sure miss you brother.

his head's like tread"
But he ain't quite dead
It just occurred to me that Levon left this earth just six days before I had my bone marrow transplant. RIP Levon! And yes you made your mark heck you're immortal cause nobody's ever going to forget you!
He says it all right to your soul
Beautiful! Close to the bone reality-stuff. Poetry of the people.
The end of an era. Rest in peace, Levon!!!
Amazing! Can't wait to see it in full!
