This is probably the best video on youtube for these motors, well done. It sold me to get this for my new pontoon. Went from settling with the 115 ProXS and now getting the 250 V8
@@Tyler-zw4kq I live in Texas and there a lot of large lakes I would like to get across at a decent speed, that coupled with a 50g gas tank and I'm all set. Want the comfort of bring friends and family on board and also satisfy the need for speed. Also that startup sound.....
Hey man how is this engine now? I'm about to put one on my 240 outrage, only a 250 PRO. 4400 pound boat rated for 300 but I have a kicker. They suggested the 250.
The motor is still awesome. The power from 6 cylinders to 8 cylinders is really evident on planing off. The max hp is 225 (which is what I have) on my boat but I also have a kicker and it was never a factor on installation, at least with my particular set up. Your 250 is probably the same everything as the 300, just programmed different. Regardless, I am very happy with this motor.
@@SeaShift I have now my boat and my Merc ProXS225. With a 17p Prop 3 blade my boat goes 40.5kn (with 3t weight). Now I want to change to a Revolution 4 prop with 15p to get the boat faster on plane with lower RPM. (ua-cam.com/video/iaK0xTaz-Q8/v-deo.html - unfortuannly I sunk my drone and have only low quality vids...)
That motor is for emergency only. We will do about 5-6 mph I believe. It connects to our main tank. We will run it just to keep it fresh and not stagnant but emergency only.
Those engines sound so good. Especially when you have it out and hooked up to the muffs. I thought I’d miss the 2 smoke sound but this’ll do just fine. They kind of sound like a bmw 3.0 in-line 6. Which is I guess what this is. Or are the Mercury’s a v6?
Top speed I believe was around 47mph and it’s a 16x17 Mercury enertia eco 17 pitch prop. Prop does very well with the boat. 200 on a 21 ft boat should perform great!
At 4000rpm we find any where from 3 mpg to 2.8 mpg depending on the weight in the boat. We are around 30mph plus or minus a few mph once again depending on load.
This poor out board will never do 80 plus and throw a big rooster tail,,,,,,,,like it would on my Bullet bass boat!! It’s life will all ways be on this big heavy fishing boat! 😔
Yes however this motor will be extremely maintained and will have a long happy life. We love the increase of power in the holeshot to get out of the water under a heavy load and is a great motor for us! But yes this motor will never see 80mph.
@@SeaShift I own a 08 Mercury 225 sports XS sportsmaster lower unit, does 84 on my 20ft Bullet! I would love to have one of these 225 V8s! And yes that motor gives your about a lot more power than it did! 👍
@@jimmycline4778 with the Yamaha four stroke we had this boat did well but it would be hell to get it out of the water, this motor loses down has already pushed me back in the seat. Mercury did a great job with this motor!
Mark Hunt we have had both a 15hp and a 9.9hp on this boat. The 9.9 is about 30 pounds lighter and we didn’t notice much of a performance difference. We would only use that engine to get home if we lose the big motor, we don’t use it for trolling or anything else!
Kendyke Watkins we would love a 300 and couldn’t agree with you more, however the boat is rated for a 225. This motor got plenty of power and get up for us.

we glad this video was able to help you make a decision! Enjoy the new boat!

The sound of this engine is incredible and the performance is that of a racing engine.
Oh absolutely. The sound is our favorite part! Thank you for watching

Ask alfred montair bro, he'll tell ya bro, he'll mark it on the gps bro

There should be a law that the motors have to match.
It's like hot roders putting chevy 350's in a Ford. Shouldn't happen
