@@superdriver777 lol, right there with you. Can do just about any metal song, but this still eludes me from playing it perfectly. I'm ok with that, it's nice to have a white whale to keep chasing.
Omg I remember seeing this 9 years ago when I was 8 years old with Guitar Hero 3. This was so awesome back when I first saw it. I still feel the same way now! WOw brings me memories from my first UA-cam channel and before UA-cam went to shit :(
Dylan Navarro yes GH3 when it was popular the arcade places I would jam this song expert and a giant crowd of people watched me 5 star it and applauded...the life of some musicians or gamers😂
i feel the same way. i tried playing a song on a regular sized guitar but it was too big for me so thats why i just stick with ukulele and piano. its easier for my 14 almost 15 year old fingers. but i do like watching other people playing it
You. Are. Amazing. I've watched Eric Johnson play this song so many times and you've absolutely nailed it. I grew up in a family of guitar players and I know the time and dedication it takes to get it down to perfection. I can't stop watching it.
I love how we all watched this guy shred years ago and thought he had the best cover..only to come back years later and still think it’s the best cover..Legend!
First youtube video i ever favourited, and I still hear this rendition in my head pretty frequently. Since then I've also been to the Cliffs of Dover, it was beautiful!
This cover has always been my favorite since I found it years ago! Whenever I think of this song and want to listen to it, I come back to watch this video! 😊
Each time I revisit this song it reminds me of how beautiful it is. Eric did an amazing job of creating this. So rare these days to find any songs that don’t have lyrics with them. This particular piece stands alone quite nicely all by itself 👍
Dislike. Why ? Because that was so good I hate you. In all seriousness, fantastic job. If anyone needs me I'll be chopping up my Les Paul for firewood.
Thanx for keeping this video up man... You've impressive skills.. Watched you in this 15 years ago when we used to play guitar hero 3 on X box back in med school... Great memories..
Awesome! Totally awesome! I especially liked the extra treat you included at the end, the added "Eric Johnson like" improvisation parts that Eric does to extend this song live.
I remember I was so obsessed with Guitar Hero 3 back in the days ( 12 years ago ). And I searched for this tune on UA-cam ( 2008) first video came out was this one. Such a goosebumps watching it now and thinking back to those days. Feeling shitty old ( 25 yrs old rn) greetings from Italy 🇮🇹.
I haven't read all 29,000+ comments on this before mine, but apparently there's actual criticism of this brilliant young player who just nailed one of the most distinctive and awe-inspiringly beautiful electric guitar compositions ever written and recorded. I may be a cynical prick half the time, but shame on anyone who would want to take the accomplishment away from either one of them, and/or deny the pure talent....
I wonder what moonchild is up to nowadays. I remember watching this as a kid wishing I could play like him! I Hope you still play every now and then buddy!
My brother, In 2008, I remember leaving youtube open and listening to your rendition as I studied for Final exams. In the process I was blown away how skillful you were/are. For many months I would keep your video on while studying; and while taking breaks and listening - I would think about my future (my future partner, job, life goals and simply the future of people in my life). Working from home today, I was bored and wanted to listen to music. I don't know why, but your video popped up into my head and I searched for it under "moonchild" because I think that was your username before. I listened to it while doing work and got feelings of nostalgia. As the music flowed into my ears again, my daughter crawled into my office, and my wife came in after her. I explained to her the significance of your video and she smiled. Don't think I will meet you my brother, but thank you for the good times and memories. Time goes by fast and many things change, but the emotions evoked from your song has been timeless. We may not share much in common, but the universe has linked me to you through music. Peace.
this guy is amazing. i classify this song as one of the most difficult ever made. and this guy plays it perfect. wow. i have a genuine respect for this man. and i will never hate.
Thanks for uploading this so long ago. I remember being so amazed I picked up electric guitar. I still can’t play as well as this but it has been a big part of my life.
Anyone who has anything negative to say about this guy's playing is either a negative person by nature, or just a dick. This guy plays this phenomenally. He would probably play it better if he was simply playing with a live bass player and drummer so that he wouldn't rely on Eric Johnson's riffs in the background to keep up with. He could do it easily . nuff said.
What do you mean, "very mistakes?!?" Hours and hours and weeks and weeks of practice have probably gone into this and all you can say is "very mistakes?" To prove that there are enough "very mistakes" in this video, post one of yourSELf doing it. Won't we laugh! THAT'S when people can say there are "very mistakes" in a cliffs of dover cover.
I've watched this video maybe 300 or 400 times. I first heard this cover back when i was in the 8th grade. I used to watch this video on the bus to school and marvel at the technicality. I'm going off to college in a few months and I still get the same feeling i did when i was in middle school. Good job dude.
1. I think he is trying to show what he can do, not make it sound perfect. 2. Eric Johnson never played this song the same, there was always improvisation.
"next time use a backing track so we can hear your mistakes." ???? You must not play guitar MrDuvalius69. Playing to a backing track without Eric Johnson's guitar track to have to match in the recording is actually a lot easier, and it hides any "mistakes" if you want to call them that. Playing it along with the actual recording allows people to hear if the guitarist strays from the actual, recorded notes Eric Johnson is playing. Also, agree 100% with luke, Eric Johnson never plays this song the same every night. Just watch his live videos. He adds notes here and there, improvises at times, and doesn't do every bend and vibrato the same as his studio recording.
Outstanding....I wish id of saw this video sooner....I started playing guitar at 12 years old..I absolutely love it...at 36 I still haven't touched cliffs over over...thank you for this video...keep practicing because you are doing a supperb job.
Plot twist: This is actually Eric Johnson's son.
He actually kind of resembles EJ as well
It would be a plot twist if he wasn't Eric Johnson's son
hahaha
Seriously?
I used to watch this in college. That was nearly 15 years ago. Still holds up as probably the best cover. Damn.
Sophie Burell did great too.
haha i was a kid watching this after playing guitar hero. my fav cover
I was just thinking this...and also about how I had just started playing when I saw this, and now it's 15 years later and I still can't play it 😢 lol

just laughed out loud
sorted alphabetically because he's a badass
He’s playing along with the song but it’s gh 3 FC 100% so and that’s why I heard a 50-100 note streak sound in the background 0:19

Mistakes or no mistakes, no use in pointing them out. Millions of people would die to play this as well as you did.
