- A campervan conversion of a 1995 Toyota Hiace Commuter. Timelapse shows the major steps of construction. Watch the following link for a similar video but for the making of a wooden surfboard which now lives in the van • Building a Wooden Surf...
What a great bed! ALL storage :-) Love the curtains. Thanks 4 sharing and happy travels.
This is amazing!!! Trying to decide between van models and exactly what layout to go for...really love what you did here!
this was a lovely watch. you're lucky to have such a great group of buddies lending a hand. greetings from iceland!
Thanks for the timelaps! Considering to buy the same VAN, now I know how to convert it.
thankyou. I have to get rid of my surfbus 4x4 delica camper and your vid gave me inspiration to keep my Mum's wheelchair hiace and turn it into a camper. Spacious design.
I was most surprised to see just how much those cabinets could hold as they were packing up for a trip. Great job & wonderful video.
That was very well done and the layout for a surfer is epic. I had a 1970 Datsun in San Diego that I tricked out for surfing and scuba diving. I loved that truck. But I really like that Toyota Van.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching your masterpiece come together.
that storage underneath the bed is brilliant. definatly using that idea in my build. well done man!
Lads, this is an epic build! I recently bought the same model van to do a similar refit, and this vid has given me the answers to some of the more technical things I've been struggling with...legends
By far one of the most enjoyable videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Never got that feeling that's in between jealousy and gladness (which is really good by the way) so strong. This is the thing I want to do the most: prepare a camper and hit the road. Congratulations for that flawlessly beautiful conversion and thank you very much for the video. Really high quality indeed!!!
Regards from Argentina!!!
thanks man, hope you get a chance to do it one day. cheers!
Wow! The curtains make it a home. I love the background music. Great Job!
Awesome Video! I have been thinking of getting a hiace commuter but the only off putting thing is how much more expensive they are compared with tradie vans. I like how simple yet effective this build is.
low roof vans still work well, im currently building one with a full size double bed (2m long X full width of van) that converts into a U shaped seating area around the back door during daytime, i can sit in it fine but you cant stand up in em.
i guess it depends what you want, one day ill get a pop top for it but i dont really go camping to spend all day in the back of a van. im out doing things, and only in the back after dinner when i chill out before converting to bed.
having a big comfy bed was #1 priority for me so i also used high density foam (expensive but really nice)
why make one with a cramped little bed? if your going to sleep in it you want it to be comfy all night every night.
Great conversion and a great song, thanks.
Killer work on that conversion man, looks really clean and good use of space!
Great video, thanks for sharing & great conversion ;)
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I learned something from you. I'm thinking to repair my campervan.
Excellent conversion - killer van - thanks for documenting.
Meant to say, love the bed - fantastic idea for storage !
Wow, I can't believe how much gear you managed to put the bemuse have net been all your stuff !!!!
That was amazing! Looks like a lot of good times will be had!
Great video mate and even better little van, thanks for sharing
Love the roof lining, it looks well plush :-)
All that work to be close to nature, not to mention that beach view........all worth it!!!
brilliant video. Fantastic Conversion
Man ! Wow ! You guys work fast !!
Great job!!!
Thanks for making the video, loved it
Good work! I like it.
Greetings from Germany.
Great video you made a super job doing up the van it's not over the top like most vans :)
hi bitomg im really a fan of costomize van for life thank you for sharing it
this is awesome! great job :)
Very cool build, thanks for sharing this gem
Very cool! Great job! A lot of time and labor.
Awesome Work!!!
Nice work!!! Congrats!!!
fantastic!! thanky for a great post
Cool vid man! I converted my normal hiace to a camper but i did big drawers that came out the back door
Great build, and Lol at mum bringing the food...
Awesome job mate cheers for the video :)
That was really cool. Thanks!
My eyes enjoyed the video and my ears enjoyed the music
😁❤
hhhhhhhhhhhhh me tooooooo
i was waiting for the always barefoot guy to step on a nail or drop something on his foot. ok, people, use common sense PROTECT your feet when building stuff!
ok, that said, LOVED the timelapse. so cool to see it all unfold. wish more people would do them.
Oh it looks so cosy :D
Freaking great van and great music!
Well done!! it looks nice.
i love this idea!!! 💘 💡
awesome work
Wow that’s amazing. I’m thinking about coming over from the UK and converting a van but was wondering what type of insurance the vehicle classes as? Great video!
Nice work bud!
What a job. Very nice.
I wish we had those kinds of vans here in Canada. All we have are gas guzzling minivans and larger vans.
Some smaller engine vans have come to the market recently but they are very expensive, and with smaller interior. So they're are out of the question.
elias wolf thats a toyota hiace
Amazing!
no insulations?
very cool, great job
Wow that's cool man :)
You inspired us!
What a great job.. well done.. very insipire me to do the same...
nice..well done guys :)
congratulations!
Great vid.
_Summer_ camper conversion timelapse
Hi, I have a question, what type of glue did you use to glue the wood down on the floor of the van? A nice conversion, one of the best I think.
+HDsharp Looks like Selleys polyurethane expanding glue to me.
great job. i bet you were very satisfied when it was doen.
Not sure about the old mans socks though. Not even going to mention the pink shorts :)
Hey mate, any suggestions on the replacement LEDS lights in the back? Anything to watch out for? or just get some that look good off the net? Iv got a 96 commuter that I am currently turning into home.
Thats a rad conversion!! I'm doing up my Hiace Van now too, for a road trip up to QLD :D How did you hook up the Surfboard to the roof? Drill a hole in the roof and side, then secure it?
Cheers man
+Zach Davis sorry a bit late, but yeh just tek screwed some anchor points in the roof and side then connected them with straps which the board is held by. the high roof helps alot
Amazing
Why did you move your combo machine outside - and how did you move it?
awesome conversion! I'm about to buy a hiace and travel around Australia also. Do you have any tips? how did the whole trip go?
who is playing the first music? want to play it on a guitar... thank
TheLyderic Dt Stylee by Jon and Roy
Great conversion! I was wondering how you installed the lighting/electric system?
I think by using solar energy and batteries
very good video guys )) thank you ) .... so big work ) i dont think that conversion of such small van is so difficult )
Hey could you make a detailed tour of the van?
wow - impressive!!
What's the name of the song being played during the "gut out" phase?
Why did you pull up your original flooring, why not use this as insulation for the floor you did out in. I only ask as I am a widow and want to try and do my own build - any info. I just ask. Thanks in advance. Alison x
in my opinion, they should've kept the carpet for extra insulation.
Probably could have. It was just filled with dirt and muck and wanted to start fresh. Good luck
+biltongFTB oh yes, it was pretty yuk wasn't it, so much dirt under carpet -- I don't want carpet for that reason. Thanks, cheers, Alison x
+elias wolf thanks x
Awesome work on the build. I also have a 95 Commuter that I am about to turn in to a camper to drive around Aus. Just wondering how you have secured the awning?
+cochee15 Cheers and good luck on the build. I secured 4 bolts in the gutter above the sliding door then the eyelets of a tarp from bunnings slot straight over them. Some poles and ropes from BCF tightens it all up and works pretty well.
+biltongFTB hi got a hiace lwb recently and desperate for an awning, can you explain further? how does tarp stop from flying off the bolts in the gutter?
+steve rowe Just screw some nuts on the bolts. But usually the tension is enough to get it from blowing off.
Nice timelapse. Now I know I want to convert a 4wd and stop looking at the campervan.
Hey mate, firstly awesome build! I know you did this a while ago but, could please advise me where you got those rear interior lights with the on/off switches. I'm wanting them for my Hiace. Thanks again.
regconnelly cheers. Just found them on the internet. Can't remember the site but there's heaps around
my main problem is the head room in the hiace, the floor takes up a 1foot more than it needs too, but in terms of reliability and durability its still best choice for Australia atleast
What glue did you use?
That last picture, looking out of the back of the van makes it all worthwhile. Looks great. Were you accustomed to wood working before you started on the conversion?
Thanks. Just a little but the old man is pretty handy with woodworking
@@biltongFTB Hey great work, do you advise to buy this model of haice? is it good for offroad and what about mechanics? does it have flaws or is it can undergo conditions well? thaks
this was great. thanks
wow so cool on 5.24 the man ware vast from our country
Great conversion. Could you share how you secured the drawer cabinet? Was it glued to the baseboard?
+Farzam Similar to how the bed was secured at 1:40. glued and nailed a frame to the baseboard then secured it to that.
Wow very nice.
What do you have running the electrics? Looks like maybe a solar controller on the wall opposite the side door? Where did you put your house battery if you have one? Nice conversion, we have a SuperCustom, low roof and standard LWB but the 4WD makes up for it. thanks, Megan
Megan Hieatt Thanks megan. Yep that is a solar regulator on the wall which connects the solar panel to the deep cycle battery. At 4:00 you can see where the battery is (behind the driver seat).
What did you put in the flooring is it wood?
very nice
Hi, are you able to get into the engine compartment without having to move furniture around? In my Hiace I have to lift/roll back both the driver (front left) and middle seat, and I don't see how I would be able to lift my seats if I had your setup.
Cancun Manny the tops of the cupboards behind the seats can just pop off so once they are off the seats can fold back as yours do
Man that is such a simple and neat design. I'm currently looking at buying a van to convert into a camper just so i can travel Australia to take photos for a few months. Looking at Toyota or something that is reliable. Budget is about $10,000 just for the van and another $2-3k in conversions. Any recommendations anyone?
hey nice setup wat straps did u use for ur surf board? can u let me know were u got them cheers
+Keegan Baker I think they're just called tie down straps. Any home hardware shop should have them
how do u juggle the mattress when accessing storage space?
Jaahda Jinnah it is a very light foam mattress that I cut to size. I just lift it up and rest it on my head then can use two hands to access the storage. Works well!
hey mate, what material did you use to make the bed frame and compartments? Is it ply, or is it melamine covered mdf? Awesome idea
Cheers. the bed frame was just some particle board. very cheap and plenty strong enough.
how do you access the motor now that you can tilt the seat back all the way?
the boxes behind the seat have removable lids. once these lids are off the seat can tilt back as normal.
amazing
how did you get the surfboard rope screwed into the ceiling??? I've got the same van, older model and i'm wondering how i can fit cupboards into the part above the windows. any info is greatly appreciated :)
Theres a couple of solid beams that support the ceiling. I secured them into those. Feel around and you should find them.
Awesome!
Awesome
This RHD ?
Did you plug the holes in the floor before you laid the wooden floor?
Once the wooden floor was laid we filled the cavities from the floor corrugations with expanding foam.
