Congrats on the clear! Novice is no slouch in this. The easiest mechanics to learn that'll help with further survival runs are how bees, laser aura, and hyper rank work. The bees in the game swap between two colors: when they're gold they give points, and when they're green they recover your hyper meter. However, as they're in that twinkling animation transitioning between the two, you can get the benefits of BOTH if you grab it then. Hypers can be recovered rapidly by using your laser aura at close range (the field of energy around your ship when lasering that deals about double the damage the beam itself does). Good opportunities to do this are on grounded enemies, the laser wheels in S5, and any time you use a manual bomb on a boss (you can get in real close for a second or two of pointblank lasering to really recover hyper meter). Whenever you hyper, a number from 1 to 5 briefly appears directly over your ship. This represents hyper rank, and goes up by 1 each time you hyper. It represents how hard enemy bullets are to cancel with your rapid shot during hyper. At rank 5, you won't be able to cancel bullets! Manual bombing is helpful because it lowers hyper rank (as does dying and beating stages). Note that autobombing as a result of being hit does NOT drop hyper rank, so it's always preferable to use manual bombs. There's also a relatively easy second loop you can trigger with some new content if you grab most of the bees in the game. :) And there's a really difficult to trigger secret version of loop 2 I've never managed yet.
Wasn't expecting this epic explanation but thanks for that! This paints so much more of a picture for me. I know for sure I want to 1cc Normal mode at the very least but the game is already so good that I can see myself scaling the whole way. I think also watching other runs from people will help me to further grasp the flow of the game. I remember when I was playing Ghost Blade HD, the first 40hrs I was unaware that point-blanking netted you massive gold token compared to normal kills so before I do any serious buckling down with DDPF, I want to ensure I know what I'm doing.
Just got the 1cc for movie using the first ship on strong style. Really fun game and love the laser (and hyper/bullet cancel mechanic once I figured it out). I’d be lying if I don’t mention that playing this after CC, the novice mode for this felt underwhelming specifically because of the auto bomb taking some of the danger away. Playing this game really made me love CC more for its novice mode and it’s progression tracker. I’m gonna keep playing novice with the other ship types and styles and try to figure out what I’m missing.
Solid stuff, Fran! Yeah, CC offers a ton to appreciate. I wouldn’t mind jumping back into ddpdfk at some point but I’ve currently got other things on my plate. Have a stellar rest of the weekend!
Thanks Salty! I'm relatively unaware of how this game all works BUT I figured banging out a novice 1cc wouldn't be that difficult. Gotta keep filling out the clears while I grind away at Devil Engine's hard mode. Getting so close now!
Thanks so much! I aim to secure a Normal mode clear at the very least but that won't be until I finish up some other runs. What's on the gaming agenda for this weekend?
Just bagged a 1cc on Easy myself. Thanks to Caves lenient hit box on this one. Been playing Space Moth too, loving that. Fantastic prices one these gems too.
@@69spagetti Congrats on the clear! I totally had some miracle misses as well thanks to the hitbox size. I haven't played Space moth yet myself, that'll be soon enough though. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and gaming!
Hey thanks Kimbap! I appreciate you swinging by! I feel like my DDP DFK 1.5 Normal clears are more intense since Novice is pretty forgiving by comparison but any mode still poses it’s own unique set of challenges. I have two arcade sticks though I am not currently using them since the pro controller is more suitable for me these days. But either way, I have the Pro V Hayabusa Fight stick (the red and black Nintendo one) and the Mayflash f500 Elite (Sanwa parts). Both are solid sticks. You could pretty much go with either and never need another stick for Switch. Actually, there are Mayflash sticks that are a slight step “down” but cheaper. I don’t have experience with them though but I’d imagine they’d do the trick just fine. Do you use a stick or are you looking to obtain one at some point? Thanks again for the comment!
@@Shmuptopia Hey thanks for the quick and thoughtful reply. I’m very new to the genre on the whole and so far have only steredenn and project starship x on the switch. While watching some of shmup junkies videos about beginners, i took up the mission to 1cc-ing a touhou game as it teaches great fundamentals of bullet hell. I am thinking about getting ddp resurrection as my first cave game and trying to 1cc the novice mode. While playing touhou with my 8bitdo pro 2 (which i use for pc as well as switch), as good as its d-pad is i feel fatigued after a long play session and usually get a sore left thumb. I think you are a great player and i have been closely following your shmup journey and wanted to know what controller you used for your gameplay, as a standard. Would you say playing with stick is easier for longer sessions or I should just get used to my gamepad? Thanks a ton in advance. Big fan of you channel. Cheers!
@@myoiboss901 Nice! Steredenn is a great game as a first STG. I have some serious hours in that one. Honestly, any Cave game on Switch will be awesome. The only one the might be a little "too much" is Espgaluda 2 but that's mainly because the mechanics and scoring have a lot to them compared to something like Mushihimesama or DFK. But either way, definitely let me know which you go with or how the runs pan out once you jump in! So as a standard, it's definitely the pro controller or Mayflash f500 Elite. The reason I use the pro controller is because, when gaming, I switch from sitting to standing every 30 minutes or so. In that sense, I don't yet have a decent setup up for standing and playing with an arcade stick. Furthermore, the sticks are louder and I play in the same room my partner sleeps since our 1yr daughter is in the other room (we're in a one bedroom apartment). So it's essentially just for convenience but I also do really love the way the pro controller feels. Either is something to adjust to though. As for your question, the best advice I can give is to think in terms of what will be the most comfortable for you since that will translate to better performance. If you're uncomfortable or feeling sore with a certain controller or setup, it may take a toll if you're playing for longer periods of time. The other alternative is to break up longer play session instead of going at it for hours and hours (if that's what's causing the soreness). As much as people can praise one type of controller or another, you've got to use what you feel keeps you comfortable but also has your performance where you want it. Trust that helps! and thanks so much for being here. Your comment is a highlight of the day! There are only a handful of people who comment on any given video so it's a major treat being able to exchange like this! I'm all about building solid connections so thank again! Have a good one.
Hey Sora! I actually haven't touched Arrange mode at all but there's a DDP DFK BL Arrange All-Clear by Sorp Yu if this helps at all! ua-cam.com/video/dI7RWTExolc/v-deo.html All the best with your runs!

I Love IT . With and without commentary both great lets Go
Yeah! After recording the First Look video, I decided I might as well play again and go for a Novice 1cc!
Congrats that was quick!
