Would you make a video about your manjaro kde system? What type of programs, settings are you using? I know you talked about it in some videoes, but everything in one video, because I really like the looking of your system. (Sorry if my english wasn't the best.)

@@tenfourproductionsllc Honestly the problems that a stable linux distro is causing are very minimal. Okay manjaro..yes problems gonna be "there's an update thing what do i do". Windows doesnt cause problems either unless of course you go and compare windows fucking 8.1 from the stone ages to modern KDE.
It's funny, to me Linux is good for people on both sides of the extreme. Those who just want to watch youtube or browse will be fine with it and those who really want to dig in and try all sorts of things and don't mind fixing them. The rest of tend to get tired of always figuring out how to fix or get something working and eventually go back to windows. I don't mind messing around to get games or whatever working but after a while you get like "I just want this to work."

@@orkhepaj We just want to play games. We don't have time to tinker with settings. I'm a competitive FPS gamer. I switched from CSGO to Valorant. Valorant doesn't support Linux. Anti-cheat is probably the only thing holding back Linux gaming.

A big hindrance to switching to Linux for me is Ableton and VST plug-ins. I’m certain there’s a way to run ableton with those plugins, but I’m nowhere near smart enough to figure it out yet. So I’m stuck dual booting for now
I used Linux for 5 years. It was hell and in the end I still don’t understand it’s drive structure.

@@someonehere4380 The thing is that you are talking about privacy on UA-cam, which is owned by Google, which is the biggest data collection company out there lol. If you are using social media, or literally just the interntet, everything is being tracked by this big companies including your ISP. So at the end of the day theres not much of a difference other than not sending telemetry data to Windows, which you can easily block anyways. If you want slightly more privacy then use something like pi hole and block the windows telemetry stuff
I tried using it for 6 months and there was lots of little problems lots of niggles that windows didn't have that you had to find work arounds for all the time it reminded me of the dos and win 3.1 days when programs never ran out of the box. In the future it may well be a good option but for now most people would struggle unless they just used it for internet browsing.
Davinci Fusion is a great vfx editor. It is node based so it works completely different, but the davinci resolve integration makes it worth it to learn jt
Another reason that it is best to switch to Linux, one that I don't see much, is Apple and Microsoft's growing desire to lockdown the OS. Whether it be Apple's continued crusade via custom hardware (T2 or Apple Silicon) and system integrity protection, or Microsoft's attempts to introduce a lockdown version of the OS e.g. Windows RT or Windows 10 S. These locked down implementations make it near impossible to dual boot into another OS or even run Linux on a live USB. Apple and Microsoft would prefer that you run their OS, almost like an appliance (the way it was intended), and if you really need to use Linux, run it in VM.
The problem is linux just doesn't work out of the box, and people aren't technical like you are out here...or willing to learn. I am also "lazy" to say, that's why I can't leave windows. And I wonder when I will ever need windows 10 S? I've been on 10 Pro for 5 years. Say Mac is locked down, windows has tools on github and forums, to unlock everything....
After 20+ years of being a Java Developer I found myself installing Linux Mint on a i3 HP laptop with 8Gb RAM. I must add that I tried various Linux options over the years but quickly ditched the idea as there were to many driver issues. This has dramatically changed and Mint installed and worked out of the box. It is running for about 3 weeks now, much slower than Windows 10, boot takes about 51 seconds. I have mixed emotions and quickly got to the conclusion that many Linux users constantly distro hop to compare Linux distros. There are some awesome features but a bit more negatives and frustrations for me personally. The main user of the laptop never even heard of Linux and she loves it. LibreOffice has improved tremendously and Edge is the main browser with Thunderbird as email client. She is happy but for me, not yet...
Something to consider about gaming on Linux/Windows. It is possible to make a Windows vm using KVM, however BattleEye has caught on to this and now you must configure the vm in such a way BE cannot detect it's a vm whatsoever. Which means custom kernel and a whole assortment of other things on top of needing two GPU's(one for host, other for vm), CPU with at least 8 cores(6 is bare mins for Windows imo) and minimum of 16GB RAM. Interesting concept, but damn does it require a lot of effort/money.
I must agree. After Effects is a truly amazing piece of software. I used it a number of years ago and nothing else comes close.
There are multiple tools for internal RGB control, some friends of mine had really good experiences with these.
External RGB controp sucks nonetheless.
2:39 One funny thing I had done when I use Wine is that I like to download or build the particular Wine version that supports my software then keep both Wine prefix and binaries together to not break stuffs up. (And I'm still doing it till this day with some of my games) This is truly not a user-friendly way to do, but it certainly works for me because I want to use Windows virtual machine as least as possible.
Valve and Blizzard anticheat do work on linux, EAC with wine and BattleEye doesn't!
my only problem right now is cod warzone's anti cheat

Can I get the simplest way to install a bootloader? I followed your pop os install video and didn't mess anything up but when I booted it took me to grub configuration type screen. Ended up just using windows boot menu. Kinda aids.
Regarding mapping, QGIS is available on Linux and it's a wonderful software with strong community support and it's just as good as ArcGIS (except on the 3D side of things, but they're working on it)
I used Linux daily for about 12 years and decided one day to try Windows 10. Reading and hearing all the bad things said about
Windows 10, convinced me to stay with Linux however, I soon realized from using Windows 10, that it was Linux giving me headaches most of the time. Always fixing something and hardly getting much done. Granted, Linux is very good indeed however, if you want things to work out of the box, Windows 10 is the best choice. I have dumped Linux and use Windows 10 full time now day's. I can only get fire from those Linux lovers for what I have said here.

I'm the reverse. 30 years using windows as my main (Win 3.11 baby... god I'm old) and 10 minutes in win10 and I was done. New machine had it and I figured it was time to abandon win7... 2GB for the base OS is complete BS and meant my older machines would continue to need win7. Pulled the trigger on all of them.
It's funny. :) I've been using Windows for about 30 years and I had the same experience with it as you had with Linux. :) Just a few things what I could left behind by switching to Linux:
- messy file system and the need to maintain it
- registry issues (again: need to maintain)
- forced to download apps and utilities from untrusted sites and consequent installation problems
- heck ya, that f*cking forced updates
- viruses, trojans, worms and other parasites
Linux just worked for me straight out of the box. Now my family uses it on four different computers (two desktops and two laptops). Fact: Windows did work, too, apart from hunting down drivers. :P Considering that the oldest config is a CoreQuad and the newest is a Ryzen 3, and that all drivers necessary to me are built in the Linux kernel by default, it saved a lot of time and headache.
But the main difference for me is the following:
- Windows is What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get
- Linux is What-You-Imagine-Is-What-You-Can-Get
Fun fact: my wifey learned a multimedia and website developer course. All the applications they used in the classroom were Win10. Yet, it meant no problem for her to get through the course and to do all the homework etc. on her Linux machine. This included image and video editing, PHP, Javascript and Python coding and God knows what else.

Shouldn't that be libreoffice? All the distros I've looked at include it. Maybe he already did this one though...

You can't compare them. Office is a must have in any office and libre is a glorified latex clicker. Rather use vim+latex and be a proud geek or pay for your office software. or use google docs, web office. If you need to, use freeoffice at least they rip office off the best with best compatibility.-->maybe compare free office to wps to libre to google docs but leave the professional grade out.

What if there was no windows? Thats what I think and adapt myself accordingly! My only concern will still be the excessive drainage of my LAPTOP BATTERY.

4:20 building my own pc for the first time so still learning but will windows not being on the computers local storage affect how well it can leverage and interface with the rest of the hardware
its been a month for me of testing 2 different linux distros, pop_os and manjaro. my issues are not many, but important, pop_os was absolutely great for gaming, had no issues, but i hated the interface, and i even tried KDE but its too much of a hassle to go through it just to get a better interface. Manjaro on the other hand, AMAZING, if we are not talking about gaming, its horrible for gaming, at least on my end, cpu usage went very high multiple times, drivers seems to be buggy for nvidia, as most games red screened or kept freezing, even after help on the forum. So long story short, i am going to keep going for windows for now, but i cant wait till i will be able to completely switch to Linux. Especially Manjaro
Well, some computer cases have hot-swappable hard-drives bays and you can easily boot back and forth from different OS.
I may actually consider switching to Linux! - because Linux puts Windows to shame, is more secured than Windows. - I mean at less the NSA hasn't been spying on people since Windows 95!

from my experience: linux desktop is fastar , games i tested are way faster in win10

@@enkracken98 LoL can be played on linux with 5 minutes of tutorials showing you how to set it up and then wala it just works. Updates can kinda break LoL on linux but then the community will fix it again. Plus if we all switched to linux all the creators of the programs and games will make it work for linux out of the box so it doesnt really matter as linux is growing alot now.

Oh you nailed it - You have to be willing to learn! It dismays me how many people don't have the time or desire to do so.
I can't use Linux on my laptop because of the hardware acceleration (or, lack of), it makes UA-cam video playback really choppy meanwhile in Windows 11 runs smoothly the vp9 and av1 codecs. I've tried with multiple drivers listed on debian wiki and arch Linux wiki but the only workaround I found was forcing h264 but it makes the videos look really bad....
Good aftereffect alternative for Motion graphic is Enve. For Special Effects: Natron and Blender.
The main reason why I don’t like using Linux is because some games are frustrating to run. I’ll try out SteamOS 3 when I get my Steam Deck but if it doesn’t work well then I’ll be wiping it for Windows.
The lack of availability of some Windows apps on Linux is the main reason I'm not able to switch to Linux full-time.
These types of comments do however not contribute to anything.
It's the same as saying car 1 is missing a feature that car 2 has so I prefer car 1.

Have tried any alternative and see if those work for you? Saying that you want to one thing without trying the alternative isn't going to cut it. Most of the time the alternative works fine.
@@Zandman26 The comment is the truth if the computer doesn't do your job its no good, for instance if you need a car with four wheel drive cause you need to get though deep snow a prius is no good. and that's the problem in Linux at present it not always fit for purpose.

They all have strengths and weaknesses.
However they can also evolve so that their strength and weaknesses change.
It's not very likely that Windows or Mac will conform to suit other purposes than they already do.
Because it's all determined by what makes those companies the most money.
However what Linux and FreeBSD ( and other open source OSes) excel at is adapting to meet the demands of the users.
Just in the last 5 years more content creators has joined Linux demanding more features suited for their work.
This has lead to KDEnlive improving to a point where it is a really competent Video editor.
It also made it so DaVinci resolve released a Linux version of their editor.
It also created a need for professional audio that is easy to manage (Linux have had professional audio for a long time, but it required work to set up).
So this started the pipewire project that is now edging it's way in to become the standard audio interface for Linux.

Not only video driver, but I faced the problem of distorting sound in Linux. In Windows, I have never faced problem of distorting sound
Even with AMD graphics, if you're either gaming or watching x265 HEVC videos, you must have one of the most recent AMD graphics cards if running Linux. Research whether your graphics card is compatible with the open source AMDGPU driver, and what AMDGPU will do with your card, as not all hardware acceleration is yet covered, especially when it comes to HEVC videos. Owners of older 'radeon' graphics cards might face difficulties on Linux.
The CAT (computer aided translation) tools don't work on Linux or Mac. There are only one of two tools but they aren't used by the large customers and not supply any income. If you are a CAT using translator, Windows is a must.

Many thing that are on other os that people love bust still not largely use to generate income.
I use both, but I prefer Linux. I just got a System76 laptop a week ago, onto which I promptly installed Kubuntu, and after a bit of tweaking, it works like a dream. Best laptop I've ever had. I still have to use Windows, though. I'm a photographer in my spare time, and I have yet to find a replacement (note I said "replacement," not "alternative") for Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. So I have to keep Windows around for that purpose.

When I had that watermark playing was doing some weird lag stuff. Then ones I got the key then the lag went away. Was like Magic all my problem went away, other then Windows doing windows stuff, as I still need it to play some games.

I never understand the Nvidia argument on Linux. I have always used Nvidia cards on Arch and have never had a problem. As long as you are installing the correct driver for the card (check the Arch Wiki for all the details) and the correct libraries then it works perfectly.
davinci resolve works on linux too and wine is there for some windows applications

Only Office instead of Microsoft Office?
I used Linux long time ago and oh boy, saying it was problematic is an understatement. USB 3, printers, Office x.x. I think it is made for devs for devs. I tried Libre Office and Open Office, NEITHER HAVE A GOOD DICCIONARY or even basic Spanish support, and this is in 2023.
I like linux, but desktop linux never really convinced me. I am still on Windows and use WSL2 for certain things. But what I really like atm is getting into how to manage and run servers on linux
What do you mean "fix things in linux"? I'm moving from Mac to Linux
Every once in a while you'll come across something that would have just worked with Windows or Mac. For example a printer you connect. (only real issue I've had) It will work but depending on what's going on you need to be willing to Google minor issues you may have.

On that point that you can use windows 10 indefinitely without activation, its kinda true but it also isn't. I hav tried it multiple times, if u don't activate your installation. One by one all ur ports will stop working within a few months. I suggest u try it n see.

I have a laptop with Nvidia GPU and Broadcom wifi and Linux hardware compatibility sucks bit time, it's unusable for a daily driver...
As for me, I tried Linux for the first time last year on November, and I actually liked and disliked it at the same time. While I did overall enjoy the positive aspects, I sadly cannot access my external, Samsung PSSD T7 drive, (in other words, view the files I've stored inside) since its incompatible with Linux and there is no Linux version for VideoProc yet. Basically the Samsung PSSD T7 fails to be detected on Linux. And combined with that, the portable SSD drive is password detected.

You can just look up what the abbreviations in the file system mean, it takes a 1 min google search
However the structure Linux uses is way better in my opinion
For example you always just have one file tree for your entire system starting with / (root) on top where every file is located in.
If you attach external storage it gets mounted under /dev/sd* where * is any letter from a to z depending how many storage devices you have
So you don’t have different hard drive locations like on Windows but your one and only file tree gets extended
I just feel like it’s a better way of organisation but it’s very subjective
If you’re getting used to it it’s very comfortable .. but both have their pros and cons
For example copying 1GB of files from a partition to another partition on the same SSD using Windows takes like 10 seconds
On Linux (same PC) it takes 2 - 3 seconds
Linux May have unintuitive naming schemes or has a steep learning curve but performance and efficiency usually is better when you are used to it
Consider the time to update your system.. I configured my Linux that I just have to type „update“ and it updates all packages and programs, updates the system, automatically deletes unneeded program files and handles all dependencies
On Windows you go to settings, then update, then you maybe need to restart your PC, then you always get the latest and greatest Edge browser
Also a clean installation uses like 20 GB less storage than Windows
@Zacman X Windows is NOT intuitive, people only know how to use it because they grow up with it and Linux is very capable for most people's needs. The commands on Linux are weird at first, yes, but your average person who just searches the web and edits documents will probably never see it.
@Zacman X And I'm curious as to why you say Linux is hard to use? It's become very user friendly in the last 10 years. Installing software is as simple as using an app store, Steam Proton allows you to run tons of Windows games (not to mention a pretty sizable collection of native games), etc. Are you still in 2005?
I have an AMD R9 280X as GPU. My problem is with the Vulkan drivers. I really wanted to use Linux, I learned so much and started using it until I hit a roadblock. On the linux distros I tried (including Pop OS), the Vulkan drivers don't work for my GPU. I tried following the Lutris docs, did everything and it just says that my GPU is not supported when I try to run an application that uses Vulkan. On Windows, the drivers work flawlessly and all my Vulkan applications are working. If somebody can help me, I would appreciate it!
I would say you should post this on the support page for your distro.
However what I suspect is that your running a distro with a older kernel and AMD drivers are packed into the kernel (more plug n play that way).
However for it to be that you need a distro that is rolling (more up to date).
This is just my guess but did you forget to install vulkan-headers, vulkan-icd-loader and lib32-vulkan-icd-loader?
I did everything in lutris docs in the InstallingDrivers file. Also I used distros that are based on Ubuntu which in my understanding is with one of the latest stable kernel version

Manjaro or Pop_OS is probably better to use when you have a AMD system.

This guy has hit the nail on the head. The reason people don't use Linux is there is always a "work around " this may or may not work.
I am looking forward to Microsoft announcing Windows in the Cloud, essentially allowing you to stream the Windows OS. This is already possible, but you are charged per hour of usage. Microsoft is soon to announce a way to do this with a standard monthly subscription. When this is released, you can simply stream Windows for the things you need it for. No dual boot needed. That would be wonderful.

For Number 3, this applies mostly to online multiplayer and some games. Mostly my experience with gaming is great especially in single player department and emulation. I also have a blast with my friends on LAN parties on games using WINE. Stability used to be a point against it but not anymore. The games I play crash on Linux just as much as it does on Windows.
Best thing is to use QEMU + KVM and use Linux for everything and Windows (pirated ... KMSPico?) inside QEMU for Windowsy stuff. Also, if performance isn't much needed, Virtualbox is an easy alternative to QEMU+KVM
QEMU+KVM is very bad when it comes to graphics acceleration. It runs a spice VNC server for display graphics capabilities which is so bad that xorg crashes and has memory leak problems and lags horribly. Vritual box graphical protocol is much much better and gives 3d acceleration. But QEMU is the only one that makes VFIO possible if you have 2nd graphics card, but not everyone has the luxury to get one.
I tried Linux last year at this time for several weeks, had to go back to Win7-64 due to AMD gpu fan control issues (R7-370 is too old of architecture). With a water cooler and video card adapter ordered, this should be fixed, so I hopefully will set up Win7-64 sandboxed on Linux (for those game apps that will not run on Linux)
but why win7? :O win10 is superior
+1 those games that run usually slow as hell at least the ones i tried are way slower on linux than on win10
I actually find it easier to have Nvidia than AMD gpus. Most distros now you just click the driver manager and install nvidia. AMD does have open source drivers out of the box but their Pro drivers are a pain in the ass and yes some people need or want them for things like blender. I do really like that you are honest and don't just say Linux is the best.
Well, the main reason moving to Linux for me is, my 8 years old samsung notebook cant take Windows 10 torture no more..

I know, right! I switched my business over to OpenOffice 10 years ago. That was a bit painful, but we switched over to LibreOffice more recently and everyone was quite happy with that as an alternative to MS Office.

I think running Linux has really been a good supplement for my journey learning to code and become a developer every time something doesn’t work right I gotta problem solve for a couple hours 😂 , all jokes aside tho unless you have a job locking you down or as said in the video really need a specific program Linux really has come a long way been switched for almost a month and havnt had any major issues other then trying to get mongodb to work correctly when ufw is active.
I have windows simply because I work at my states dep of labor from home on VMware horizon client and I can't figure it out on linux. I also play gta, wow, pubg, etc so it's just rly tricky for me. I ADORE pop os from sys 76 tho.
Also if u like the desktop environment of windows just use mint or manjaro os eith kde plasma and u basically got windows 10
I can't do the full switch because I use Visual Studio (the purple one). VS Code is OK but is not as comfy as the other one and it brought me problems. But besides that, I'm doing most of my things on Linux.

1. Bash terminal is not as intuitive as dos cli. Many commands are redundant and could be eliminated by using switches on a main command.
2. The requirement to keep entering passwords. It is annoying and distracting.
3. Wine does not mean "Wine Is Not an Emulator," it means "Windows Is Not Emulated."
4. The GUI is not intuitive. Customizations is frustrating. There is a reason there is a Hanna Montana distro, and a reason it is called a distro, because to reach that level of theming requires a rewrite of the source code, but then Windows users do not seem to customize their pc's anymore.

While it's true that Windows is kind of free for personal use, you might want to consider that if you use it in a commercial environment, you have to pay for a pro license. And that's not everything - you just get that license for one PC (sometimes only for one hard drive) - so if your HDD breaks or you swap some other component - you need to buy a Windows license again.
Also, when Windows support ends, you need to buy another version (so far Windows 11 is free for Windows 10 owners but that might change).
It might not be too much money, but Linux is always free for any usage environment and that's one fewer thing to think about (Unless your employees are really used to Windows and can't live without it)

If you value your time and don’t want to spend your life fixing things, don’t switch to linux. Use WSL if you need any specific Linux tools or use a VM. Too much BS still with getting games working, for day to day use it’s ok but if you have Windows or MacOS you will have a better experience even if you give up a little privacy or telemetry to Apple or MS.
For me the OS should behave like a friendly assistant bot, no matter what task is, it should just do it without asking anything else. I say install and open this game, just do it. Print something, just do it. Driver issues, not my concern, analyze and fix it in the background. Compatibility issues, not my issue, you run it somehow..... that would be a ideal OS in my opinion
This is why you use Windows 10 Ameliorated in a KVM setup on Linux. I do the same with my old GTX 750 Ti in a KVM setup. Though, I still use 7 and I just keep it isolated from my home network and the internet. I just have a virtual bridge setup to so my host and VM can only communicate for sharing files and to use Barrier. 7 still works for my use cases if I need Windows with an actual hardware based GPU. Linux just allows me to use 7, preserve it, and also keep it secured.
But I basically never Windows now since WINE does work well. Especially if you dump Nvidia cards in favour of AMD. This is why I'm never buying another Nvidia card again. I've had Nvidia on Linux for the past handful of years. It wasn't fun. So I know. But using my RX 570 is like a dream now.
Moral of the story here is, if you're going to use Linux, stay away from Nvidia. Unless, of course, you're going to use said Nvidia card in a KVM setup to run Windows on.
Finally, this is really a video for gamers who just don't want to learn anything. Or for people who want computers to just make magic happen no matter what OS/application they use; my sister being one of them. In essence, you can't do anything for those people except do the things for them.
However, for most basic use cases, Linux is a great substitute. My momma uses KDE Neon as her daily driver on a the big screen to watch her news/movies/TV all in Firefox. Again, AMD or Intel cards help out the greatest there.
Back when I was a Windows 7 user, I might have stayed using Windows. But after seeing/dealing with Windows 8 at the time, I was like, "I need to find something else but still retains the traditional desktop experience to some extent."
So I kept dual booting between Windows at the time until I was able to make the switch fully. Being poor and using open source software helped a lot too. Thankfully I did switch. Because today, I see Windows 10 as a nightmare.
Wine is a bitch to deal with on Linux. That is the only issue where I am forced to use sometimes Windows.
The difference between Windows and Linux is that with Windows you are driven around in a bus for which you can always find a driver who will take you from Amsterdam to Barcelona but with Linux you have to drive yourself and change your tires every time the weather changes.
CAD is another issue. CAD software isn't supported that much. Even the current cad software available for Linux is not good enough. So businesses that use CAD are screwed
The way I see it the 3 big issues with Linux for daily use are:
-Lack of software (as you touched on, regardless if it's only 1 thing you need. For me as a mining engineer, none of the software is available on Linux. So it makes little sense to use windows for work and then have to switch for pleasure. Lets not forget the business world runs on MS Office 365)
-Windows and mac by-in-large 'Just work.' Sure there are problems form time to time. But the number of times I've spent an evening playing windows vs Linux Terminal commands is rather stark...
-Games. doesn't matter if all but 1 of the games you like to play works. if 1 doesn't, then why bother.
There's a reason the big Linux's houses (Red Hart and Suse) focus their attention on the server and HPC space. That's where Linux's flexibility and customisability really come into focus. It's also where the money is. And with that money comes real tech support and service.
In my opinion it will take the actions of a Government to decide to decouple itself from MS to force greater focus into a Linux Desktop. China, Russia or N. Korea being the likely candidates. If they mandate that there governments and educational institutes are to use a specific Linux distro (likely one they've had a hand in developing.) Then the software will follow. But as yet that hasn't happened.
I don’t agree. With the help of Lutris, 99.9999% of gaming on linux is literally one click. Including games on the blizzard launcher. And i use nvidia drivers without any issues. I do agree about easy anti chest though,

I use Windows when I want to get shit done, but I use Linux to learn and tinker to eventually fully switch🤞 but right now its too much of a road block in productivity as a game developer and music composer. But I really like Linux, I'm sure in a few more years it will be a truely viable option for everything, including normies.

Since I develop games and all my games are developed using Linux what engines are you using that hold you back? I use Unity, Godot and TIC-80 (for laidback projects), all have Linux support, which is why for me it sound like a mute point.
For music, I see your problem to a degree but have you tried Ardour since LMMS can use pulseaudio and it sounds horrendous unless you switch to ALSA or JACK.
@@PixelTrik I use unity. Its fine but it just works better on Windows right now. Every month or so I'll do a dev day on linux just to see where its at and right honestly its pretty damn good. Music on linux is just way too cumbersome. I don't want any faffying around, just plug and play. Carla etc is just too annoying. Maybe one day when I have time. But i want to produce things and get work done and not tinker too much.
@@broganking9830 On Music end, it's understandable. I have a hard time on Linux in music production too, Ardour while it's great requires work to set it up. For those who want things to just work in music production, I wouldn't recommend linux to those, it'll be a hassle for them. I'm trying tracktion on Linux to see if it works for me or not.

I would love to switch to Linux. I want an operating system that's easy to use, free of spyware, and that will run well, even on an old computer. As an experiment, I installed Mint onto an old laptop I was no longer using to see how it would work for me. Here are the results of my experiment and four more reasons not to make the switch:
1) The computer's track pad is now hyper sensitive. When I try to scroll up or down with my two fingers, the screen shoots up or down and I loose my place.
2) A friend sent me a pdf--a full page. When I print it, it's only 4" by 6" or 5" by 7". When I try to adjust the printer controls to make it full-size, what I get is utterly illegible. When I print it from my main laptop, it's full-size and clear.
3) There are some programs with versions for Apple and Windows, but no version for Linux. Sometimes, there is no substitute program, such as the software for my digital camera. Perhaps I could use the Windows version. However, Wine, as you noted, doesn't always work and this is a case in point. (I actually knew this before I installed Mint.) So I tried Virtual Box. I can't get it to work. I have no idea what the problem might be. No digital photos for me.
4) The latest is that I would like to use Brave browser. I got an error message when I tried to download it from the Mint repository. I also couldn't download it from the website. There is a list of what appear to be terminal commands, which I tried (I've never had to use terminal commands before--they all look Chinese to me), but no dice. Strangely, I had no trouble downloading and using Brave on my Apple. I also use Firefox, which I also like, but if I want to browse the internet on my Mint computer, it's going to by Firefox or nothing.
So this is the end of my Mint experiment. It's a complete failure. Mint, like some others which have been recommended to me, is advertised as "working straight out of the box", so it's probably me. You say the specific distribution isn't all that important, but I am left with trying some others. Some, which have been highly recommended are Zorin, Pop, and Kdeneon. Somehow, I'm left with the feeling that I will need a private tutor to sit next to me and hold my hand. Has anyone else had such experiences?
As soon as Linux becomes more friendly for gaming (granted, this is more so an issue with developers neglecting it), I'm immediately switching to Linux, probably PopOS, Mint or just Ubuntu.
Not looking for anything fancy, just want a simple OS without bloatware, corporate prying or anti-consumer practices.
If the anti-cheat issue gets fixed, that would be the thing to make me finally jump over.
I prefer to save things to cloud storage, so I typically just use online things, like Google docs, so a lack of downloadable apps isn't really an issue for me, the less I have to install onto my hdd, the better imo, can save that storage for something else.
Like I said, I don't want any unnecessary bloatware filling my storage up, especially since a lot of it I now baked into Win10/11 and can't be removed without risking damage.
Windows can be buggy, today I started my computer and would not connect to the internet. I was about to reinstall it but then it started working again.
A few days ago one pc with windows just stop working... A new bug on the updates cause a error on the start secuence... All files lost...

Games are one of the few reasons I dual boot instead of running Linux alone. I run Linux on my work PC.
I have a few reasons for dual-booting Windows 10 and Linux instead of going 100% Linux forever, and those reasons would be as follows: better compatibility with iTunes, as it's my preferred method of syncing my iTunes Library with my iPhone (neither WINE nor VirtualBox/VMware Workstation would simply cut it); and Clip Studio Paint EX, which has features that neither GIMP nor Krita have, such as free-handed drawing on vector layers. Inkscape wouldn't even cut it either.
Honestly I didn’t use Microsoft office even when I was daily driving windows… libre office has always worked fine for me
