    I’ve found inspiration in a crinkly shower curtain, thought I was just weird. Nice post!

      Hey Martha! Haha, not weird at all. I love the idea of an abstract painting being inspired by a crinkly shower curtain!

    I love it! I have an entire folder on my computer for "References". My husband has gotten quite used to me asking him to pull over for a minute so I can take a picture. Rocks, monuments, more rocks, sunsets. Son and I just got home from a trip to Rosemont Il - just outside Chicago. We went into Chicago to see a performance and in the Uber, I was on the side facing away from the city. Son took a whole bunch of blurry photos to send to me as paint prompts. It worked, there's a LOT of curves, and I'm looking forward to doing a Chicago Curves series in the future 😆 My kid is awesome!

      You can't have too many reference images! Blurry photos make great abstracts. That was nice of him to take them for you!

    I’ve picked up shed sycamore bark, which has great organic curves. Might try that. Not sure what else to do with the bark!

      Hey Denise! I love the bark of sycamore trees. I bet you'll find something cool to do with it. I bet you could paint many abstracts by imitating the shapes in the bark.😊

    I constantly struggle with shapes, my brain wants simetry 😅watching the way you arrange shapes, the kind of shapes you choose makes my brain feel uncomfortable which I need, I learn a lot from your videos, thank you so much ❤

      It was really uncomfortable for me when I first started doing odd shapes, but now I love creating them.

    Very inspiring video...thanks! I love how your piece turned out, nice shapes and I love the palette...Usually I find myself preferring one of 4 orientations but this piece worked wonderfully in each orientation. Thanks again!

    But, I also think that this video raises the question around abstract, what it is and wht is an abstract landscape - is it nspired by landscape or is it supposed to be somehow reminiscent of landscape at the end? For me, it is a little of both, and what is difficut for me is getting away from attempting to paint a landscape, but to represent elements of landscape in an abstract manner, and it is this struggle that makes me realise how attached I am to trying to make it look like landscape. Thank you for being a GREAT ource of inspiration - even as I write, I am about to start a new painting having watched your demo.😊

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  Рік тому +2

      Very well put. The way I begin both abstract and more traditional landscapes are very similar - I usually start with the bigger shapes. So it's quite difficult with abstract landscapes sometimes to not instinctually go into a more realistic landscape when I'm looking at a source material. It might be a fun challenge to start two paintings side by side, same color palette, same source material and do one as abstract and one as more representational. That hurts my brain just thinking about it, but sounds kind of fun.

    Hi Chris, thank you for the beautiful suggestions how to approach an abstract landscape. I see so many beautiful things on my morning walks but I never know how to approach them and to turn it into a painting. You've given me some ideas.
    Have you ever thought about setting up a fb page where people can share inspirations they got from your demonstrations? That could be fun.
    I would also love to challenge you and anyone else who is interested to paint an abstract of a boatshed in my area. I have tried so many times and haven't succeded. It always turns out too realistic. I could post it on my instagram for you to see. What do you think? And please be honest and say no if you think it's too much. I imagine that you are quite busy already reading and replying to all the comments.
    Thank you so much

      Hey Brigit! I love the idea of setting up a FB page for people to post on. I'll see if I can get that done soon. Also, I think that sounds like a wonderful challenge. I'm game! That sounds like it could be a fun video to make to offer up your challenge to others. Let me know when you post it to Instagram. Cheers!

    Hi Chirs, just catching up with You Tube - been on an offline, hiding from summer heat. Another wonderful demo from you, and of course two core questions - what do i use for inspiration and one that is more implicit, what is Abstract Landscape? Since that video you did on looking at pavements (sidewalks) I have not stopped looking at crack patterns in walls and the ground. I don't take enough pictures of them though...

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  Рік тому +3

      Hey Emmanuel, thank you! I'm just the opposite - I think I may have an addiction to taking pictures of cracks in the street, haha. I'm convinced people think I work for the city and am documenting poor road conditions.🚧

      yeah, i really like some of his landscapes. yours bring them to mind... similar blocky-but-rounded shapes with a sense of volume and mass. i especially like the Marsden Hartley landscapes with that bright blue lake. :)
