I moved back to Oregon from Fresno 2+ years ago. My 1st month home I found my car being trailed by a truck one night all through numerous turns. Pulled into a gas station to see what was up. It was another guy a few years older than me. He pointed at my bumper sticker and said "Drive-By Truckers Rock!" Guy knew what he was talking about!
This was the first song I ever heard from DBT and it got me intrigued. Check out Southern Rock Opera if you want to see what they can do in a long format. These guys tell a story of the south I grew up in and know today.
@@lr6884 I saw them so many times between 2005-2010. I felt they were untouchable. I can barely keep tears in when I listen to the albums from that era.
Been a few times I was thinkin "time to kill myself" thoughts, put on this song, cried, and got back to living. Saw them do this in Baton Rouge in fall of '08 and it ruled. One of the best shows I've seen.
Herd this in the background of an STP commercial last night during a NASCAR Race from Richmond. Now if they would only play Daddys Cup for the opener of a race!!
Favorite DBT songs: Five Bullets, Dead Drunk and Naked, Pretty Road Cases, Decoration Day, Mary Me, Sink Hole, Look Out Mtn., Let There Be Rock, Ronnie and Neal, CArl Perkins Cadillac.........
I think the raw, swampy sound is part of the appeal. After all, it's only rock n roll, right? Most of the greatest records and performances in rock history havn't been perfectly mixed and whatnot.
This is how it should be- Isbell and Hood both singing on the same track! Don't get me wrong, it ain't that Patterson is a bad front man by himself but they are like Lennon/McCartney. They are amazing solo artists, but even better as a team.
I have to admit I was kind of dissapointed this was not about the Battle above the Clouds. However its a decent song so it wasn't a total waste of time.
epiphoney2 yes it all may be part of the same mountain range the country music super group Alabama are from lookout mountain it's in the north east side of Alabama which borders Tennessee& Georgia in DEKALB county
@upcheezy Are you crazy, cooley's great and loosing Isabell hurt me. That boy can sing and play a mean fucking guitar. What about Jaon and Mikes lyrics, obviously not a Trucker fan. Patterson has 2 great solo cd's, stick with that if you don't want "My Daddy played poker on a stump in the woods back in his younger day."
q94sucks, I'm guessing you meant 'Mason Dixon Line.' No shit the war is over. Tell that to a northener not people in the south. I was born in the north but live in the south. I consider myself a southerner because people here are way more layed back and friendly. The north is a lot more uptight, close-minded, and racist than the south is any day of the week. I've met way more racists of various ethnic backgrounds in the north than in the south.
Even watching his mouth one has a hard time understanding the words due to over bearing instrumentation. The Bass is way to overpowering, and the backup singers sounds like caterwauling. This is not that good were it to be properly mixed and put together it might be worth listening to.

In this era, Patterson Hood had the word's best job, standing between Cooley and Isbell while they solo.
"Calling it Southern Rock is like calling it Rock Rock, rock-n-roll is southern!" Gregg Allman said that, something like that.
I used to be in a band with Brad back in the early 90's in Greenville S.C. I'm proud of him for holding onto his dream. Rock on bud...
I'm an Alt. Country/Rock fanatic and I can't believe I missed the DBT boat all these years - well I'm getting on now!
is that young Jason Isbell w the shades? I think so.
This was the first song I ever heard from DBT and it got me intrigued. Check out Southern Rock Opera if you want to see what they can do in a long format. These guys tell a story of the south I grew up in and know today.
This band is one of the best kept secrets out there. They aren't huge commercially but they are great and no one sounds like them.
Cool band, and if i remember correctly, cool people. I mixed the audio live for the show
Does anyone have any tabs/lessons to play this song I’d love to learn it. If you could tag me in it too that would be great!
I love Drive By Truckers! Awesome!!!
For a brief moment in time, they might have been the world's best rock and roll band.
Still are
They really were.
@@lr6884 I saw them so many times between 2005-2010. I felt they were untouchable. I can barely keep tears in when I listen to the albums from that era.
Them n Black Crowes
One of my favorite songs ever!!!!!!!
Best ringtone ever
Cheers to cleaner water around Lookout Mountain and throughout our blessed Tennessee River watershed!

Isbell's aviators are awesome!

Man, man, man. North, south, east, west. Who gives a fucking shit. This shit motherfucking rocks!!!!!!!!

Favorite DBT songs:
Five Bullets, Dead Drunk and Naked, Pretty Road Cases, Decoration Day, Mary Me, Sink Hole, Look Out Mtn., Let There Be Rock, Ronnie and Neal, CArl Perkins Cadillac.........
best band around today by far...
Isbell and DBT were at their best together no funkin doubt
I spend all day everyday at the foot of Lookout Mtn, but it don't sound quite this good...
i luv it!! its like havin 18 wheels and a bottle of Jack! YEE HAAA!!!
1:14 Jason goes full Christopher Walken.
One of the best parts of DBT is the guy in the glasses. He left the band unless you saw a guy with a bigger gut ....that was him before....Hank
That’s Jason Isbell and he’s now a huge success as a solo artist.
I think the raw, swampy sound is part of the appeal. After all, it's only rock n roll, right? Most of the greatest records and performances in rock history havn't been perfectly mixed and whatnot.
I love relaxing 2 this song /\\./band! Any1 know of Any recommendation s ?
Totally miss Jason...But they still rock...Just not shreddin..that was ALL Jason!

@Wes2251
Nope. I mean, they already released an album earlier this year and just had a 'hit' compilation come out.
one hell of a song, a must for people on the edge of suicide
now thats deep,and south
yeah DBT rocks come to holland pleeezzzeee !!!
I have to admit I was kind of dissapointed this was not about the Battle above the Clouds. However its a decent song so it wasn't a total waste of time.
I wish I could see this band in this form.Too late for me
i love dbt!
hey I know were lookout mountain is here in Alabama ISBELL is doing solo country music now right I think they're busted up now
There's a Lookout Mountain Alabama? There's one in TN too.
epiphoney2 yes it all may be part of the same mountain range the country music super group Alabama are from lookout mountain it's in the north east side of Alabama which borders Tennessee& Georgia in DEKALB county
I bet that's it. Cuz I was thinking of Lookout Mountain TN/GA right by Chattanooga.
epiphoney2 I would think so , the trucker's are from muscle shoals Alabama which is on the other side of Alabama so they probably know the area
The singer IS drunk. That's why we love this band...
sounds like a neil young song
need more cowbell!
Naw, their best (IMHO) is "Carl Perkin's Cadillac".
@upcheezy Are you crazy, cooley's great and loosing Isabell hurt me. That boy can sing and play a mean fucking guitar. What about Jaon and Mikes lyrics, obviously not a Trucker fan. I hear ya metalhead, no offense taken here
no shit, me too.
Now that Jason Isbell is clean you can see where all DBT songwriting came from just take a look at Southeastern fro Isbell
Uh, I thought all of their songwriting came from the individuals who wrote them. Isbell wrote some amazing songs, but so did everyone else.
+budderisawsome1231 Jason didn't write a single thing for this song.... This was all Patterson.
metalhead6964, no offense taken
the singer looks DRUNK
cute as a button bassist

i really think that patterson should be the only one singing...the other voices are bad.
5 people are not good
@RastaMastaKonTiki
IMO DBT isn't half as good without Jason.
Jb stoner

worst harmony part ever!
