  • Welcome to our UA-cam channel!
    Ian from the Jessops Academy team is down on the coast of Devon to test out the brand new Olympus O-MD E-M1 III. This light weight camera is packed full of new features and shares a lot of the tech from the larger E-M1 X.
    Ian wants to try out the latest features offered. From the new 80 megapixel hi-res shooting mode to the helpful astro photography "Starry Sky" AF mode.
    This camera is for more than just landscape though as Ian discovers with the autofocus and high frame rate it is also a serious contender as a camera for sports or wildlife.

    I am sending this message from Hiroshima, Japan.
    I used to use the Olympus E-M1 Mark II, but about a month ago I changed it to a new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III.
    The lenses are OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO and OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 45mm F1.8 [Black]
    I have an OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 [Black] and an OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 25mm F1.2 PRO.
    I really like this camera because it looks really cool.

    Love the camera! 4 second long exposure photography picture hand held, My Nikon Z6 sure can't do this you need a tripod!! Amazing the things the latest cameras are doing! I want one!!

    I have Nikon D850s, Fuji XH1 and now the EM1 Mk III. Brilliant lenses. I take it everywhere. 99% of the comments here seem to be obsessed with irrelevant technical details. The Olympus software is outstanding- especially in tethered mode.

    Nice to see Jessops coming to UA-cam space. I remember going to Queen’s Road shop in Brighton printing my photos in 2007 and buying my Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 from the Strand shop in London. Unfortunately there aren’t pro camera shops in the UK, such as B&H in New York (other than the department stores or sometimes Calumet).

    Great overview. I love the look of the Starry Sky AF, Live ND (although I wish they would include internal ND filters for video too), and that Hi-Res mode look decent used with the right subject.

    I would love to see Olympus add 400fps slow motion video. Nikon had it on their old V1 camera, lots of fun.

    I want the astro focusing, and the simple super control panel from the EM1.3 to the EM1X firmware update. that way I would not HAVE to get the EM1.3. I grip ALL my cameras, even my Nikon DF, so I would grip the EM1.3. My budget says that I am NOT supposed to get the EM1.3, although it would be a perfect match for my "X" due to the same interface and controls for the most part. I have the EM1.2 as the bakup for the "X", which is a wonderful camera.

    Really nice video thanks. I'd love to buy a om1iii but with the 12-40 f2.8 lense it is listing for $2,500! A bit out of my range. Plus I can get the fugi xt4 with a 18-55 f.28 for right at $2,000. That's pretty tempting. I'm hoping fugi will come down into more of that range.
    Nice feature but why would any one want to take a 50 MP picture?

    If we are to buy into a new mirrorless system today, how would you weigh X-T4 versus E-M1 Mk IIII? Major use for shooting photo of kids and travel, thus a more reliable and easy face/eye autofocus would be great. Thanks.

      I think both systems have some very strong plus points. Both cameras are quick and offer premium quality build, good displays in the EVF and screen. The auto focus is accurate and reliable on both as well.
      For me it would be a case of handling them. The deep grip on the Olympus is great for some but not others.
      I would then look at the features both systems offer and see which you think you would use.
      a 40 megapixel photo is great for architecture and landscapes but isn't going to be of much use when taking pictures of the kids on the beach.
      Likewise the film simulation mode in the Fujifilm is great if you don't shoot in RAW all the time.
      We have touch and try days in our stores if you would like to be able to get hands on with each before making a decision. Head over to our Facebook page where we have all the event dates listed ☺️

    Why f8 for that scene? And why not use the electronic shutter?

  • @uwedepoortere174
    @uwedepoortere174 4 роки тому

    HHHR seems nice, but is it correct that f8 is the minimum you can go using HHHR? So less light you can gather and you'll need slower shutterspeeds => error prone for movement in your frame...

    Which tripod setting are you using in the video?

    • @jessops
      @jessops  4 роки тому +1

      Ian was using the Manfrotto 190 Go Carbon, this one had a Manfrotto fluid drag video head. Ian had forgotten his tripod so borrowed our videographers. It is a great lightweight but very robust tripod. It is also available in aluminium.

      I think you can do RAW video externally via an Atomos Ninja V now. I know it is extra weight and bulk but at least it's an option.

    Olympus make amazing cameras but I do think they should have followed Panasonic into the 35mm market not because its something I would use myself but because it offers choice as there are things 35mm can do that M43 can't and vice versa. If you needed 35mm Olympus don't currently offer anything which is a shame if you were a fan of the brand.

      Jessops called in administrators in December last year, I suppose closing some stores and reducing costs makes them more viable. They're a business so gotta make profit.

    Olympus is in PANIC MODE ... 90% of the stuff in the EM1/III is already on their older bodies not to mention a 12-45/4 lens in the presence of 12-40/2.8 lens.... RIP Olympus, this one will have the same fate (failure) as the EM1X. However this will increase the sale of EM1/II and EM5/III.
    $1800 for a MFT body is ridiculous, while you can get A7III, XT3, XT4, EOS-R, Z6 and many more bodies for the same price or less

    • @listonheinz9103
      @listonheinz9103 4 роки тому +7

      But I don’t want those bigger bodies. I want a small, lightweight, durable body that basically fits in my pocket. That physical feature is actually worth something to me.

    • @solarbody9061
      @solarbody9061 4 роки тому

      Erik Burman You think EM1/III is smaller & packetable? It is bigger and heavier than most of those bodies I mentioned. The sensor size is much much smaller and the AF system is not even comparable to those

    • @listonheinz9103
      @listonheinz9103 4 роки тому +12

      Solar Body Cmon dude, lenses are three times the weight and size for those systems. And I don’t really want a bigger sensor, the image quality is absolutely fine for decent sized prints. And the smaller file sizes makes life easy in post too. Faster, more convenient. I use the “Live Time” function a lot, no other system has that mode as far as I know at least. I could be mistaken though.

    • @listonheinz9103
      @listonheinz9103 4 роки тому +1

    Quit the trimmings and address the real elephant in the room, still peddling that 4 year old sensor while other camera companies are scorching ahead, Olympus deserves to crash.

    • @zardosspinosa6944
      @zardosspinosa6944 4 роки тому +1

      Zack fair comment, Sony has a range of sensors and their 24mp FF is considered the sweet spot, haven't taken much notice of Nikon but they do have sensor choices which are already very good. Maybe the 20mp m4/3 sensor is as good as it gets and does represent the sweet spot for m4/3 cameras, but we would still like a new sensor
