Philippines rice bill: Food outlets could be made to sell half cup servings

  • It could become mandatory for restaurants to offer half cup servings of rice to their customers in the Philippines.
    The move is being discussed in Congress as a way to cut back on waste as people struggle with food inflation.

    Wait, is the Philippines the most important when it comes to rice? They were the best at cultivating rice during the '60s and '70s. I recall them teaching other countries how to cultivate rice efficiently, such as in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

      Population increase.. the farmers sell their land due to the lack of support of our national govt to their farming needs. Most of the time the middleman/traders are the ones who get rich in the market imstead of the farmers.

    Im confused, how the heck can you waste rice? And im here eating rice and noodles and even rice and pickled vegetables with chicken oil... Like how? How do you waste rice when most asians eat it like it's water? (Im also Filipino) I'm so shocked, i thought baked goods or vegetables but rice?!?! How?!?!

      Not everyone finishes what they order. Especially in the upper-middle class to upper class societies it’s considered impolite to finish your whole order.
