Une chaconne de Bach jouée dans une si belle église ça invite à la méditation. Merci pour cette merveilleuse interprétation!

"On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind." - Johannes Brahms about Bach's Chaconne

Really, am I being an fool just to say...this is the most spiritual, the most moving, version of Bach's Chaconne that has ever been done (on UA-cam). I wish I had been there.

I've playn violin all my life and never mastered the chaccone. When I listen to master such as you play, It makes me cry........... ~~~ it is the voice of God speaking to man and man speaking to God..... Both voices / one above / the other below , as if in a dance that celebrates all the emotions of life.

All the great violinists I’ve heard over the years playing the chaconne all had played that probably many times and many played wonderfully and all played it there one indevitual way. Victorias interprétation for me was like hearing it for my first time a New and wonderful experience in my ninetieth year. Many thanks for this Present

    V. Mullova has technical proficiency, the spontaneous wealth of pure melody and rhythmic perfection in a long difficult Bach violin solo.

I love this. Mullova and Isabelle Faust might be the most interesting Bach violinists in the world right now. They bring so much color and kind of a quiet intensity to Bach and it sounds a little less like a techical showpiece than it did in the hands of the MIlstein, Heifetz and Perlman. I always found the Chaconne almost tiring to listen too when it was played with super-intensity for its entire length. I'd rather see it played less bombastically -- a little more like a poem or a story than a sermon.

Very beautiful version. Walks a fine line of sounding romantic without sounding "romantic". A sense of harmony bridging intensity and calmness, austerity and expressiveness.

This is for me, the best Chaconne ever. She is Coming to Bergen, Norway in April. She shall be a soloist with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra aka Harmonien. Edward Gardner is the Conducter, The Orchestra are from 1765. One of the Oldest orchestra in the entire wold. Berge City have ca. 270 000 residents.

I have such respect for all of the world class violinists and while I don't think there is such a thing as a "wrong" interpretation, I do think that Viktoria Mullova's interpretation of Chaconne is the best. My favorite violinist is Julia Fischer, but even there I think Viktoria has her beat on this piece. Just absolutely amazing!

I have heard so many versions of this and I always get goozebumps. The best interpretation... I don't know, they are all so different, Perman, Heifetz, Milstein, Ray Chen, Maxim Vengerov, Hillery Hahn, Julia Fisher, Janie Janssen, etc etc..If I'm in the mode for a soft version, this one and julia Fishers version. For a more powerfull version; Heifetz or Perlman! Hillery Hahn is kind of in between, and that's what I like most of the time...

How wonderful it must be for her to play this in St Nicolas in Leipzig. In exactly one of those places where Bach himself must have been standing sometime in the night, playing his violin, alone after a long day, and imagining an entire eternal world of music.

I know thousands of good violinists have played this piece, but really Mullovo just had a night out on this one ... it's an exceptional performance, just brilliant in its spiritual intensity . Better than all the great male violinists who loved to play on four strings at once.... and also a compostional day out for Bach who surely got out out of bed on the right side when he composed this. Must have been such a nifty violist to work this up. On top of his keyboard skills ..... what a genius, has anyone surpassed him? I know these comments are obvious, but I make them anyway ...

Clean interpretation of a very hard work, for their technical difficulties , the variety of rhythmic formulas that have, by the difficulty of keeping up in a full-length piece without losing speed and strength fatigue. A piece that requires an incredible memory, iinterprete penetrates the intention of the author. Bach is great, Bach is unique, Bach has an imagination attributable only unparalleled genius . This is the first Bach interpretation which takes my breath away. I mean what Bach has written is absolutely, really unbelievable beautiful anyway, but people somehow ruin the pieces with the "wrong" interpretation. But she plays it with so much understanding, so soft and gentle, so wise. I love it. And I meen, you can see that the people listening there are just blown away of the beauty in this 14 minutes. Just amazing. :) Thank you.

So I watched a video that featured a clip from this video (from about 3:12-4:00).
In a comment, someone said they weren't impressed with it because it was "just a simple pentatonic scale." I flat-lined immediately...I literally could not believe someone would say something so extremely stupid, false, and completely ignorant of anything that went on in that clip. The person who stated that must have literally no experience in playing anything other than a pentatonic scale!

NO NO NO it is the voice of man speaking to man, why do people always have to bring god into anything that is so beautiful. Mankind for all his faults, and there are many, is also capable of producing acts of extreme, beauty, courage and selflessness lets just acknowledge those good traits. God has committed acts of unspeakable cruelty and callousness, gods are not supposed to do that and yet we continually forgive god for acting like men but we don't forgive ourselves.

I have always been listening to the guitar adaption with Georg gulyas playing it and was surprisingly shocked by the lack of emotion during the modulation. I have always found this a point of pure pain but this felt too rushed, without meaning or understanding to the true reason this chaconne was written - bachs wife had died a week before and this chaconne should SCREAM and CRY.
