2:02 Has anyone else noticed that the open space between the phantom and the crowd resembles a coffin? (SWOON) "God, between this, Dr Caligari, Haxan, and Nosferatu I love the artistic beauty behind the gothic expressionist period of the silent era ❤️❤️❤️!!!" (PS, The Red Death is possibly the most beautiful and extravagant costumes in cinema history)
Woah, that was pretty cool and well done, people sometimes subestimate antique films but they're great! I loved that final phrase and the fact that when he ran back the stairs everyone is like: -wait, wha....is this supposed to happen? -it's just leaving? -that's all?..... -Yay!!! Let's continue partying people! Hahahahahhah
The infamous Phantom is unmasked scene, original audiences fainted at the sight: The Phantom Of The Opera (1925) - Famous Unmasking Scene - Original Score
Silent films never really had an officially designated score, and were subject to change from theater to theater. This film is in the public domain, so any distributor that wishes to release it nowadays can put whatever score they want over it.
RRkroovy Well the 1929 version we have today also only survived in black and white. But a color real about a minute long was found in the 70s and edited into the 1929 version.
The colour footage was issued in the 1925 release. Only the Bal Masque footage survives. The q929/30 cut existed only in b&W when issued by companies like Blackhawk until the colour footage was discovered in the mid ‘70’s. it was introduced into 16 Blackhawk prints along with a newly recorded score, and issued this way for Blackhawk laserdiscs and Blu-Ray discs.
Technicolor requires an insane amount of light. Since footage was shot simultaneously with b&w and technicolor cameras, more light would reach the colour negatives by slowing down the camera, in essence increasing the speed of the image on projection.

With the pandemic this Halloween hasn't played out very well, but I think I've got my costume idea for next year.
The shot at 2:37-2:43 is so good, I love it

Is this soundrack made for the film or is it just another piece that suited it?

This is 1929 re-release. The real film only remains entirely in black and white.
but in the 1929 version this was the only color scene?

3 years later.. haha sorry! I actually thought this was part of the 1925 surviving bits. Thanks!

@@mattkkr The Synchronised Sound version of the Phantom Of The Opera should be released on DVD in the UK a lot more often.
Hard to believe the last surviving actress just died in 2014.
