A blank is not recognized by the color of the primer at the back it is recognizeg by a projectile in front,instead a blank having a star crimped front where normally a bullet would be.
And yes no plastic or whatever stuff to mimic a bullet,anything flying out of a barrel at high speed can be lethal and will mame for sure.
So yeah any normal person having 1 braincell or more could have recognized it as real or fake.
And yeah even as an actor you should check the barrel and magazine before any action.
Heck even load it yourself with blanks,never rely on someone else.
