Spray bleach on the mold. Idk what it might do to the mannequin but I’ve done it to thrifted paint canvases that have gotten molds on them and it works!
I’ve heard vinegar can kill mold but I’m not 100% sure of this method.

Straight vinegar. Just pour it straight over the mannequin and let sit out in the sun. Natural sunlight plus vinegar kills all forms of mold so that it doesn't come back. And it won't spell like either mold or vinegar once it dries. And it won't damage the mannequin at all.

From the silk sheets, make lounging pj's set and a robe. Since you don't crochet or embroidery, you could fabric paint that beautiful peacock on to back of the robe. Or you could use embroidery paints (Aunt Martha's is a brand). Oh my, am so jealous of those sheets.

I bought a pack, thinking "wow what a deal," right? One side is cm the other is inches. But those are not imperial inches: 1 inch on these tapes is 3.5 cm, 1 inch and 3 lines (whatever the division is called) .... so, they're half useless. :/ i taped one of them to my desk. i try to carry one of them with me, and the 3rd stays at home. I have restored mannequins, with mold. You are on the right track, let her dry and then use a spray bottle with a bleach and water solution, spray her and use a soft cloth and Bob's your Uncle! Then you can either recover her or paint her if you are nervous. The bleach thing is used in all kinds of moldy situations. Wood, tile, ect ... it works well. I lucked out recently at a recycled craft clearance store. They had free stuff and mixed in with the various tiny ribbon bits was spool after spool of rayon bias binding that is now considered antique. It is called 426, and each is 100 yards, some used some not. About 20 colors. I died! :) Love to see your finds! My antique mannequin I found on the side of the street. Crazy! She is from the 1950's.

I had to take notes, so I could remember what I wanted to comment on. First of all I never knew that about tape measures! I have a ridiculous amount of buttons(many thousands)but still can't pass up certain ones. A couple of years ago mom bought me a bunch of red plastic buckles. I have been making 40's day dresses and love to have the belt buckle and buttons match. One day while thrifting I came upon several bags that were full of red buttons and red ric-rac and bias tape. I had to buy all the bags with the red things.(5-6 bags?)Then while binge watching some show, I sat and organized them into matching groups. As you know not all reds are the same! I have been buying notions second hand for many years. I buy vintage bias tape and rayon hem tape whenever I can. I always use hem tape to hem anything. It is so much easier and I love the way it looks. The new stuff is so awful. As far as your dress form.... I would dilute bleach in a spray bottle and spray that bad boy. Then leave it out in the sun. I don't know what you are going to do with it but I would paint it with some anti-mold paint. I have used KILZ paint many times. I live in the NW (Washington State)in the US about 300 yds from the beach, in an old house (over 80 yrs)so you can imagine the damp and mold problems. One last thing....I would wash all the silk sheets and see if the hand changes afterwards. I would dye it, silk dyes so beautifully, then make a 30's evening dress.

Dear Evelyn, I am pretty sure that your peacock is an embroidery transfer. It’s for a pillow case or dresser scarf and crochet would be put in where it scoops up in the middle. That area can also be filled in with lace but I am pretty sure that the crochet will make the peacocks tail. I have an entire box (we are talking bigger than a man’s shoebox) of embroidery transfers. I love them and just can’t pass them by. Some were my grandmother’s and she passed in 1973. I have used a few of them but not many. My goal this year is to do embroidery in the summer. I crochet all winter, working on afghans helps to keep me warm on cold Wisconsin winter nights. I thought embroidery is small and would be something to keep my hands busy in the summer. Love your haul of goodies. I work at a thrift shop and the things I find. When I first started 10 years ago I bought everything. Now that my craft room is over stuffed with lovely items I have become very selective and have started to return some of the items to sell to some other lucky person. Good luck with the mannequin😢

Anything to kill the mold will be worth it, and she certainly seems worth it. Another thing I would consider would be bleach? But that gets into quite treacherous territory, and may be a last resort. Anyhow, thank you for sharing your treasures with us!

The Peacock feathers are sought after by fishermen who make their own lures. Now s for the vintage binding, would you hand wash and press before using it? I love thrift shopping! I can't say I would have brought any home, other than the white fabric. Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing as we vicriously go shopping with. you. Stay safe and God bless you for your cheerful and ardent enthusiasm.

About the mannequin- after you've treated the mold, there is a sort of paint primer used in bathrooms to block mold, you might think about using that. Loved all of your thrift haul. 👍❤

Just saw this video and the funny thing is my daughter picked up a vintage mannequin at a yard sale that also had issues. I stripped her down and dried her out, spray painted with mold resistant paint, and recovered. Then spray painted again with silver paint. She is a show stopper now compared to where she started. My daughter paid $5 USD.

I hope the mannequin pulls through! Sun should help with mold but maybe you could try spaying it with peroxide or high proof alcohol? It should dry fast enough not to damage the form and dispatch the mold.

Without sounding like a broken record of repeating everyone's take on your mannequin, I too would have grabbed it. Use one of the silk pillowcases to refurbish/cover the mannequin or make something vintage out of it. Thanks for the tape measure info reminder. Although I already knew that, I still check mine twice a year for accuracy. With the temperatures changing drastically in the Chicago area, from freezing cold winters to high humidity in the summer, I've only had to throw out one. Well, I actually saved it for wrapping a present 🎁 with it.
I scored some old lace in a metal tin from my mom. However, the tin has a picture of a zombie on it. Lol Mom!? I had no idea. Great video on your thrifting haul, love them all. Makes me want to go thrifting too.

Silk lounging pyjama!! What a score! I love our local tip shop, such great finds. Unbelievable re mannequin. If you know someone with a big walk in freezer, she might go in there for a few weeks to get rid of the mold (that's what they do with pictures with mould). Vintage ric rac!!! I must share some of my finds. 😍😍

When my son was very young he had bronchitis often and we used a humidifier to help him. Later we discovered all this mold on the walls behind the furniture. Someone suggested mixing chlorine bleach half and half with water, then wearing gloves in a well ventilated room (windows open etc) just wipe the walls with a cloth. It was amazing how the mold just wiped away. You could try it on your mannequin. Also your silk reminds me of a lovely slip my mother had which she had bought back in the 1930's. Perhaps that's a possibility too.

I picked up some Miss Fisher vines from the first few items. Take a silk sheet and make it into a robe with a peacock embroidered on the bottom of the back. The peacock feathers can be used as a fan and save a few for a hair clip or headband to go with the robe.

If you can find a dehumidifier to rent or borrow from a friend you could stick her in a smallish room with it to help dry her out faster. I concur with another commenter that a bleach solution will help with the mold situation. What a bittersweet find!

The silk bed sheets I would use that for linings. I would use the peacock feathers as an adornment for free-standing-lace masks. I am very happy that you made the point to explain that you need to compare your tape measures to rigid rulers to ensure the accuracy of your tape. Good video.👍🧵

Ooooo some lounging pajamas, with wide leg pants, would look lovely out of the silk bedsheets!!
White vinegar is a mildly acidic product that cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects. It can also kill 82% of mold species, including black mold, on porous and non-porous surfaces.
Just mix white vinegar, water (maybe a drop of dish detergent) spray on and let dry in the sun 🌞
I have had a mold problem behind my stove. It's completely gone now!

Hi Evelyn. That peacock pattern can easily be transferred to cloth, as you know, via light box or window. It’s so gorgeous. I’m thinking a pillowcase. Maybe the back of a denim jacket. The vintage mannequin could use a little bit of bleach and water applied with a spray bottle and left standing in the sun for the day. Then reassess. I wonder how difficult it might be to take it all off and rebuild it?

We had peacock feathers in our wedding arrangement and my wrist corsage, My hubby was a gorgeous man. I called him my pretty peacock. your idea of a fan is fantastic. Also as hair decoration.
I know it is to late to help you with your dress form. But the chemical supply stores sell spray disinfectants that kill most everything. If you get the right one you definitely would spray it outdoors it will get your lungs. The fine print tells you it will kill 99.99% of viruses, mold and bacteria...then they list some nasties. They are recommended for cleaning in baby nurseries and schools and hospitals. Not everyday, just when contagious diseases are known to have been there.
