Scrap hereditary peers perhaps. But if you scrap the house entirely you lose nonpartisan, expert, and collaborative legislative action in the government. Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that you don’t actually know what the House of Lords does? 😂

Christina Ann Tucker is to be thanked. Let lords be elected as the other politicians are elected. Let the voters be members of the houses of commons and not just the pm of the day. Make the title a limited time title so a person who has got in by stealth cannot become a permanent fixture. Reform seem to be the only party who want to actually work in politics for the country and are not just there to get something for themselves alone.
Mike you are wasting your breath at the moment but you just watch in 6 nonths all those there with you at this moment are thinking "is he right"? you bet you are mate... Keep up the good work my friend I`m behind you all the way
It performs an important job by “ sanity checking” proposed laws sent for approval by the House of Commons. They can suggest amendments to the proposals and send it back to the House of Commons for them to debate the changes, or in some cases actually refuse to pass a proposal and just send it back to the commons. The House of Commons has the ability to override the House of Lords if it does refuse to pass a proposed bill but its checks are important when you get prime ministers like Johnson or the lettuce - it can’t stop them passing crazy laws but it can make them reconsider. There are some very wise heads in the House of Lords from former politicians and leaders of the judiciary or industry. There are also the hereditary peers who’ve done nothing notable to be there other than being born to the right parents. Also bishops have a seat in the House of Lords - another historical throwback. I believe we need the lords to check and offer amendments to our laws but, we don’t need all the useless hangers on that sit there and claim expenses for having a good lunch and sleeping the afternoon away! Labour is proposing to get rid off these.
I am ex bbc rigger like many of the MPs in the Parliament bar or in the 5 star restaurant where food and drink is disgracefully cheap. The House of Lords do F all for us.
@@derekwhyle1884I think it would be quite a good thing to have more of those experts in there. If we could replace all of the political appointments as well as the hereditary peers with people who actually know wtf they're on about I think it would a great idea so that the government proposes laws but then people with the right knowledge and experience can give advice on amendments or if they should go ahead with it at all. Even better get them appointed without involving politics - maybe with the civil service or an independent committee. I feel like that's a bit of wishful thinking though 😢

The conveyor belt from the Houses of Parliament to the House of Lords needs to be turned off, and whilst they’re at it stop hereditary peerages. Everyone in parliament or the lords should be elected as in a true democracy to get rid of the old boys network and representatives should be there on their ability alone.
Do you have a policy on reform of the Lords Mr Tice. Would you care to share it? In your party's pre election "contract" it's "structure is to be debated".

Demand the 'Lords' all pay 10% income tax. That will get rid of half of them.
Absolutely Bang-on Richard Tice ... Reforming the upper chamber, is way way, overdue.
Love this guy, but he’s speaking to no one!
Agreed. Labour could not care any less about the HoL. They're in and wielding power-- HoL is not even a problem for them.
@@gamezdude5544All the HoL does is advise changes to bills and slow the passing of some of them.
