Welcome back to another Day At Sea
In this video - I shall be taking you all through the Suez Canal onboard Munkebo Maersk At Night . Yes you heard that right guys , it's the first time we all will be going into the narrow suez during the Dark Hours .
It was indeed a scary thought at first but the night lapse has managed to capture the entire journey beautifully .
The ship was fully loaded and needed to be navigated very gently as due to the box type construction of the lady , it is prone to heavy bank suction effect .
The Captain of the ship was on the Navigation Bridge throughout the journey with the Egyptian Pilots assisting as required.
The reporting to the Suez canal authority had to be crisp and clear as there was no margin for error . ( Especially after the grounding of the evergiven ship - Evergreen )
But before we transited the Suez Canal we had to drop our Anchor at night to wait for the convoy number & pilot berthing time . During the anchorage there were alot of authorities coming onboard to check the paper work of the vessel .
Surprisingly our time to heave up the anchor was way beyond the standard time & that was the Biggest Surprise for all of us .
The reason was due to the fact that a ship in the canal had lost its steering and got stuck - blocking the northbound channel .
Overall it was a very surreal moment with 200,000 tons moving through a 100 width channel at night . Although the backscatter from the city lights were really mesmerizing & not to forget the DJ lights on the bridge LIT up the whole show ( except for the captain - as he had to pay solid concentration )

As a second officer in Holland Cruise Lines, I have many friends sailing with Maersk vessels telling me the difficulties of the sea. One should have his blood warm to be a seafarer, especially in cargo vessels. I love your videos too much and by watching your videos I also remember my time when I was a deck cadet in cargo vessels, facing the dangerous waves of the Biscay and chilling with the Pacific's...

Night transit of the suez brilliant I am a truck driver here in USA 🇺🇸 and I do all my work at night but sometimes I have to work during daylight hours and I get so excited because I get to see scenery in the daytime that I never get to see at night. They call me Ray. Stay safe my friend.

Beautiful time-lapse footage! Makes me wish I could transit the Suez myself. If it's not too much trouble, consider adding a marker for how fast the time lapse is (10x, 40x speed) or a timestamp so we can better understand the time passed in the footage.

I spent a night crossing suez back in 76… interesting experience…
My ship the Australis was one of the first passenger ships to pass through the Suez after the Crisis in the sixties.
All along the banks on either side were troops with guns pointing at the ship. The Arab merchants boarded at Cairo and disembarked at Djibouti to ride the next ship back. There was a huge market on board for 24 hours. It was very enjoyable although my father was a bit taken aback when a merchant offered him five camels for my older sister.
