    I know that feeling, its a tight take off zone with the added time/2 wave count pressure. I admired your resilience 😊 I was proper angry at about the 4th attempt. If you were surfing that same wave in the sea I reckon you would nail most of them 🤙🤙 Well done

      Thanks man..my misson over the 4 sessions was just to make it out alive and if I managed to catch a wave that was a massive win for me.

    Looks like that took a bit of getting used to! I was at the wave pool in snowdonia a while back.. this one in Bristol looks so different. Good time though eh? 🤙🌊

      Yea it,s a kool wave. I think i made it look harder than it is. cant wait for the one in edinburgh to get built so theres a closer one. Went to snowdonia a couple of times but this beats it no problem.

    sick video! the waves at the wave are pretty hard to catch i went once ages ago. can’t wait to watch the next session hopefully you have gotten used to the waves there! yewwww 🤙🤙

      Yea grom..being in the right position when the wave hits was everything..I got used to it more as I got tired so the both cancelled each other out but I think I still got a few good ones near the end

    YES!! This was epic & unexpected! My first thoughts were should have taken Lazarus, but you were carving it up in the end! How cold was the water, I saw a guy in boardies! Can't wait for the next one! :)

      Yea man I had lazarus with me for the rest of the trip but left it in the car so it was a 30 minute round trip walk to get it..the water was quite warm so I had to ditch the gloves and the 6 and a half mm wetsuit was way too much

    Also a born again Kook this year. 20 years out of the water.
    The strength'll come back but I must say - 5mm and gloves for June? Whoa.
    I'm using a 3/2 shorty in Moray Firth in September :D

      Yea..every little improvement is a massive win for me..I almost dont wanna say that in this vid I was wearing a 6 and a half mm hooded wetsuit and 8mm boots..)

      First day back there were 3 swells hitting me for an hour, never got a sniff at the line up and the next week I stumbled around saying 'ow' and various swear words mainly.
      3 months later I can paddle around for a couple of hours and only swear for a day.. Also view this as a massive win.
      Great to see more of us returning!
      Many WARM respects :D

    I was feeling the pressure along with you. I yelled "woo hoo" when you finally got onto one! Well done.
    What's up with the 15 minute walk to get there? Crazy!

      Haha yea the place blew up when I finally got on a wave..think you can hear them in the background..I,ve no idea why they didnt make parking closer..they even have the nerve to have a sign at the beginning of the walk saying.."this is your warmup"

    4:20 you did. yes, I was thinking that too, gloves tire you twice as much .. I don't use them even on the coldest days. however, apart from the cost, this advanced wave seems good for a while but then seems to become limp. is it worth it?

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  3 роки тому

      Yea got a few in the end..I usually always wear gloves but this week I went gloveless..Yea this wave does have a bit of a limp middle section.. theres another 2 settings above this one but they are always fully booked..It would be better when they build one closer to me..)

    Was it a long drive from where you live? Are you planning to return?

    • @pokeypickle3
      @pokeypickle3 3 роки тому +2

      I was planning to surf tomorrow but I think I better do a COVID test and isolate while I wait for the results. I was in a shopping centre where a positive case was present. I am classed as a casual contact.

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  3 роки тому +1

      its about a 5 or 6 hour drive..theres another being built less than 3 hours away that was meant to be finished this year but got held up because of the apocalypse..i,ll probably go to that one next time

      @@middleagedshred Sydney Australia. It’s great to wear broad shorts and a rashie in summer (easy to get sun burnt though - that’s why I cover up. Had a few benign moles removed). I get away with a 3:2 steamer wetsuit in winter. It feels cold to me but you probably think 16 degrees C is very warm. 😀

      @@middleagedshred I had my COVID test today and I can’t leave the house until a negative result comes through as a text message on my phone. There are massive fines (& maybe jail time as well) for leaving your house while waiting for your results. Hopefully under 24 hours. A few ppl left their home whilst waiting for their result - they were positive and caused more infections. Our whole state hates them.

    How deep is the pool, especially at take off zone?

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  2 роки тому +1

      Its quite shallow at the takeoff zone at the bottom of the wave. On one of my failed takeoffs my knee hit the floor so it cant be more than a few feet deep in places, we are told not to duckdive...it,s deeper in the middle and along the paddle out channel area.

    • @insanelewis21
      @insanelewis21 2 роки тому +1

      @@middleagedshred cool thanks for the reply. What's the pullback like, at take off. If you catch my drift. I bodyboard with fins, so sometimes stand and kick off the ground if the break is shallow enough to give me a boost to get a wave.

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  2 роки тому +1

      @@insanelewis21 It is quite sucky at the takeoff point once the wave starts to draw you get sucked back and have to paddle or kick to stay in the right zone to catch the wave but its not too hard to stay in place.. ..its probably not shallow enough to stand at the takeoff zone..My last session titled
      POV SURF The Wave Bristol Advanced Plus Session 4 The Rise Of The Kook
      had alot of bodyboarders so I got some decent footage of them..they seemed to have no trouble catching the wave and seemed to be able to takeoff farther forewards than the surfers..for a bit more of a gnarley takeoff and a little airdrop.
