I just got one today. I've had bamboo shrimp in the past and they seem very similar except that the Vampire shrimp seem to get larger and hide a bit more.
This is amazing! Thank so much for sharing this! I love that you leave time for us to just watch and enjoy without commentary. I have questions about the oak leaves. Obviously they'll slowly rot, so is that intended to add nutrients to the water? or is it a pH thing? Thanks!
Would you suggest they are better to be kept as a group or would they be happy on their own. We have one currently but super shy and tucked away. We have bamboo, Amano and cherry shrimp in the tank already
May be the stronger water current for them is better.I used to keep 4 Atya gabonensis for 5 years. No one died, but they really need somewhere to hide(It should let the water current pass where they hide to capture microorganism to eat.)Generally, they prefer black stuff to stablize themself.Black Pottery is good idea.I saw the video, you have 2,the larger one may get rid of shell once 2 month, smaller may get rid of shell once a month.Wood with moss on is also perfect stuff for them. Also,i noticed that this shrimp need large water,i used to keep 4 inside one aquarium containing 80 liters water. If too small aquarium, they may escape, cause mine escaped ,luckily,i found them in a right time. This shrimp is famous for their longevity(long life span),so be prepared to keep them for next 20 years. I also added calcium powder into the water for them, cause i had good lesson about this from other shrimps.
Hello, This vid is really awesome, they are for sure really beautiful creatures. I have question : as they are from time to time rubbing their fans against the floor and the rocks, are there recommanded types of surfaces so they don't damage it ?
I have just acquired two and will most likely get a couple more since reading they don’t like living a solitary life and may perish if left to live a lonely existence. Beautiful video, many thanks! 🎶😎👍
I've had 3 of these guys for a few weeks now and they have very different personalities. One of them only comes out now and then, one of them is pretty confident and will feed day and night. And one of them is really active. It will often walk or swim around the tank, it doesn't care at all if you're watching it. Over the last few days it will swim up to one of my sponge filters and climb inside the outlet getting hit with loads of bubbles, it will come back down after an hr or so and go about its business.
I’m watching this on a big tv in the house. The music mixes so well with your vid that I’m inspired. Not a good video, but an awesome video! Enjoyed watching! Thank you for sharing! Two thumbs up!
I have inherited a 110 litre tank and just starting it up. How long would you recommend l need to run it before Bamboo shrimps or the Vampire shrimps would thrive in it. Substrate is sand at about one and a half to two inches deep. Plenty of plants have gone in. It is a new setup. Any advice will be appreciated....shrimps for this tank 🦐💖
@@MarksShrimpTanks Thanks Mark. I have used on set up Microbe -lift special blend (100% biological) also used Microbe - lift Xtreme water conditioner. For the plants to help them get started JBL proscape plant start. Plus some sand from the river Urie near our home in Scotland 🏴.
You should get some bamboo shrimp(atyopsis moluccensis) too, they are awesome and do not hide as much. I have a tank whit some and I love it. Im going to add two vampire shrimp too in the future.
We have 6 adult Gabonensis and one smaller one that was the only surviver from a breeding project. Several babies made it through the saltwater stage and back to fresh but after 6 months we only had 2 left that were by then about 1cm long. These were returned to the parent's tank and presumed lost until 1 showed up alive and well 6 months later! I think the secret is knowing at what stage to begin the transition back to freshwater and finding the best food for the shrimplet's. Our females regularly carry eggs and we hope to try again when tank space allows. Good luck if you have a go at breeding these facinating shrimp.
It's interesting to share information on these lovely shrimps, we struggled to find anything much written about breeding them. Ours are kept at 27c and they seem to be active all day however we did discover by accident that they hide in the caves and appear to go into a state of hibernation if the temperature drops as low as 24c.
Since their larvae require brackish water..... that means you can set up a Halocaridina rubra tank! My favorite shrimp. Tiny shrimp that are very active and can live up to 20 years
Hey Mark! I love all of your content as always. I was just wondering if there was any way you could put in captioning yourself as the youtube closed captioning is not that great and I feel that I can get all of the information from your videos better with the proper closed captioning. I just thought I'd run it by you to see what you think. Thanks again for the great videos!
Mine took a couple of days but we only had five young guppies at that time, and one vampire shrimp called mister sticks, then the next day we got 5 tetras and another vampire shrimp called mrs sticks and two catfish. Mister sticks is more social after 4 days, but the first two we didn’t see sight nor sound of him. Mrs sticks we see, she stays behind a house rock between that and the glass and sometimes ventures out but not too much yet. He has taken to sleeping just over the top of her at night when he goes to bed - he spends his days now with the catfish (sir grey and lady grey) on and in the big giant house eating. 60l tank, i don’t really want more fish we have only live plants and I love how they have lots of space and plants and water and hidey holes, so more fish is doable but not ideal as the fish will grow a little more as well. Though I am desperate for more vampire shrimp! I just fell in love on sight- who knew!! I have a baby tetra who also tends to stay with mrs sticks. I say baby tetra- it’s just the smallest one of the 5. He’s a bit mental and daft like! And he likes staying with mrs sticks between the rock thing and the glass. We called the guppies The Blanco Family and the tetras The Franco Family as we can’t identify and individually name them but didn’t want no name at all. I did spot a pest snail, tiny thing, must have got caught when we bought the live plants. I don’t mind them, quite like them so as long as one or two I’ll keep them as they can clean my tank too, but any more and I’ll remove humanely. That’s my tank- new and so exciting! Who knew I would totally fall in love with the vampire shrimp! I don’t think I could eat prawns now!! Great vids, I’ll subscribe
They don’t actively go after baby shrimp, but if one happens to stumble into its fans while it’s eating then it’s possible it’ll eat one. Otherwise you should be good.
I used to feed inverts with a Turkey Baster. That ways you deliver the crushed or dissolved foods right to them. Hey Mark, when are you going to do for something with the Mexican dwarf Crayfish? They are said to be good with plants and fish unlike the bigger terrors that eat everything..and then kill what's left for fun.
I vote feather face for this one- his feather fans are very active! Or mister feathers? The other one I didn’t see so not sure! Have you named yet? I’m guessing so since it’s an older video!
I used to have a few tanks years back with south American dwarf cichlids, tetras/rasboras and pleco's and that was all i cared about, i didnt really care for Cory's or shrimp(they were cool, but i didnt want to have any) and in no way did i have any interest in guppies, betta's or goldfish, Real life turned sour and the tanks was the first thing that got shut down. Now i'm getting back on my feet and i'm starting up my tanks again and i still love me some Dwarf cichlids, tetras/rasboras and plecos, but this time around i found that i've grown some love for shrimp and cory's and i'm definitely gonna be getting into that part of the hobby as well. still no love for Guppies/betta's or goldfish other than they got some cool colours. ( guess im not really a big fin guy) :D
I got one today ...I know I'm 4 years late lol.... Is there anyway to sex them and would he be happy to have the 2 bamboo shrimp I have as company? Thank you 🙏🏽
They are brackish shrimps so hence the conditions they need to thrive, they go along well with the type of fish you find in the Orinoco delta: endlers, guppies, pipefish etc. they clearly are mangrove shrimps.
Hey Mark!!! Remember me, I was talking during your live stream recently talking about guppies shrimp and p puffers with you. Anyways I'd be so happy if you were to join my group on facebook! If you respond Ill send you a link or email you with an invite in my template!!!
Yep, I’m definitely getting one for my 65 gallon community tank
I guess you could say, you're a big FAN

this was helpful, thanks.
How did I miss this!!! Mark do you mean suggest names for them now? Vlad and Vampirella. Or you have already chosen?
Hello Kerry no I have not chosen yet It will be interesting to see what people say :)
Have a great day Mark.
You too :)
i love them! i plan to purchase one along with a bamboo shrimp, cardinal shrimp, orange sakura shrimp, and a black crystal shrimp.
Hello,
This vid is really awesome, they are for sure really beautiful creatures.
I have question : as they are from time to time rubbing their fans against the floor and the rocks, are there recommanded types of surfaces so they don't damage it ?
Ive seen them do this when they want more food, are you feeding any powdered foods its what they need, crushed flake is good.
I just got two today, thankyou for this video.
Such cool creatures. I definitely have to get some now after watching this video.
Please do!
Lol a red shrimp is taking a ride on the head of the big shrimp 🤣 @1:22

That’s extremely cool! Are they still alive today?
Nice! I added some native Australian fan shrimp to my paludarium, the only time I see them is at night when I have the tank backlit with red leds.
I love atyopsis, got 6 molusccencis (bamboo shrimp) already and have a gabonensis coming on thursday but i'll end up buying more bamboo shrimp
I have not had any shrimp yet and am very fascinated by this one. Great video! Also a new subscriber 🙂
Thanks for subbing!
We have to name the two beautiful Atya fan shrimp in this video.. the two names with the most up votes I will consider :)

Thank you very much Jose, my editing isnt the best but I do try and get the feel for the music into the video >(
Hi could you tell me why I haven’t seen my shrimp since I got him about 2 weeks ago. Thank you
Har du mulighet til å se forskjell på hunn og Hann på dem ?
yes males legas are much thicker on the front and females have a wider tail.
@@MarksShrimpTankstusen takk :3 hvor holder du til btw? Ønsker å lære så mye som mulig om akvariums sporten :3
Do they burrow or uproot plants?
Not that I ever seen Blasto 👍
What are the red shrimp. With them?
Awesome shrimp species.

4 or 5 weeks or mayby 1 or 2 if you buy bottled bacteria like seachem stability :)

They are on the list to go into this tank :)
How much space do they need?
a lot they grow pretty large, 100 litres plus is the smallest I would use

Sounds like a plan !!!
I heard that you can give your shrimp boiled egg shells to add calcium to their diet. Would you recommend it?
yes I have done it before
@@MarksShrimpTanks thank you
Which do you prefer bamboo shrimp or vampire shrimp
Bamboo shrimp like higher flow am pretty sure but there both very pieceful
Hi...Could I keep 1 of them in a 15 gallon tank? What type of filter do you use with shrimp?
Hello Tony, I use alot of powerheads on double sponges in my tanks and yes I think you could a couple in a 15 gallon tank
@@MarksShrimpTanks Thank You for all your help.
Anyone know how there doing now?
Hi Mark, i have a male that measures in at 17cm, would you say this this will be his maximum size now?x thank you very much.x
The cherry shrimp seem so tiny next to them. I have been getting into shrimp and crayfish lately.
Great video, thank you 🦐💖👍😁
Glad you enjoyed it

I used to do it but it cost to much money to pay someone to do, they were earning more than I was making on the video.

I’m not sure, we just got two of them. They do their own thing really!
Hello, I have a question, how about keeping them in a tank with red sakura/red crystal/red cherry? Do they eat small shrimps or not?
Honestly I dont know
They don’t actively go after baby shrimp, but if one happens to stumble into its fans while it’s eating then it’s possible it’ll eat one.
Otherwise you should be good.
Will these survive in cold water ?
how cold? if your talking like under 15c then no.

Hey about the dots I notice that they are in a different pattern between the two maybe it's a boy girl thing.
Really nice. Thanks.
What kind of filter do these guys need?
one with good flow, I have double pat mini filters with sponge in all my tanks.
Will goldfish eat them?
I would say yes eventually.
