Mark, you are a truly generous man. You take the time to experiment and learn how to do these things and then give them away to us when you could easily keep it to yourself and sell the product. I really appreciate your efforts and thank you for assisting us.
The way I gain is by helping people overall ,thank you Bruce :)
So here's a thing. If you're going to store it in the family freezer, I can't stress enough the importance of clearly labelling it. Otherwise you end up with a supper of sausage and couscous, with a tomato, onion, garlic and duckweed sauce.
hahahahahaha that might be tasty hahahaha
🤣but how did it taste
Is duckweed a superfood?🤣
Duckweed is eaten in curries and soups in southeast Asia! Just gotta boil and clean it
LOL Perfect.
this is the main reason i grow duckweed. i bought some different species off a guy on facebook, so now I have like four species of duckweed. duckweed queen, LOL. i feed it to my chickens and worms and use it as a green manure around my gardens. loooooove this stuff!
i was scared to get duckweed because of how people complain about it, but now I have to have it thanks to your information.
I've been warned away from duck weed but I like it. After this video, I'm getting some. Thanks.
Wow! never thought of this before. been tossing this stuff for years when I could have been making my own fish food out of it.. Thanks for the idea. keeping fish is a hobby. Why not make it support itself. dollars saved could be used for a new strain of fish or equipment..
Glad I could help!
I was mid rcs unboxing while watching this video... I started my shrimp tank because of you mark!!👍🏻
its a curse burn them with fire !!:D
How many tanks you got now.......LOL!!
So interesting, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching :)
This is why I love UA-cam, you can always find something new! Thanks for sharing! Just subscribed.
Thank you Jake
I know most people hate Duckweed but i personally love it in my Betta and Black Platy Breeder tank. About once a week I make a scoop out of the excess and chuck it in the goldfish pond. Pretty tanks and free food.
I for one really enjoy the diy food tutorials!
greetz from Belgium and as always keep on shrimping with a thumbs up
Thank you sir :)
Thanks for all you awesome videos. You have helped me a lot in this hobby!
Thank you for watching them :)
glad to see such a "nuisance" plant put to good use! thank you for the info!
I have lots of it frozen now lol
Congrats on 10k subscribers, my friend! I just happen to have about 6 metric tons of duckweed growing outside. This video may have saved my life.
wha!!!! I did think about doing a duckweed burger lol but I didnt have enough while making the video lol
That would be so great. I could possibly be talked into eating one...given enough mustard.
Wow, I saw that video just now and I really want to try this out! Thanks for sharing this, Mark. I never thought about making my own shrimp food. And I have so much duckweed I toss out that often!
Mark how far you have fallen... dealing weed now to fund your shrimp habit. Also I'm telling your missus you used her blender.
nooooooo dont say a thing lol
LOL!
@@MarksShrimpTanks mark can i use flavor less gelatin instead of agar

Thanks for watching
Deffo going to try this Mark
Liquidating duckweed........Will give this a try for sure. I have a huge tub of powdered pollen
Its very good shrimp food ,I sent out about 20 sample packs before I made the video to see what other peoples shrimp thought of it lol
Thanks for the video. After watching this and your nettle video, I'm going to try combining the 2 so I have nettle flake over the winter.
Glad it was helpful!
@@MarksShrimpTanks Excellent informative channel as well Mark. Its been a great resource when setting up my first shrimp tank. Thank you so much.

nice iloved this kind of plants.
you can also pelletize them to make feeds for you're livestock's...
Now we are talking :)
Awesome idea for using Duckweed, here in Florida I have seen whole ponds and small lakes covered. I have a friend that is actually setting up a hydroponic type system of large commercial food grade containers to grow massive amounts of this true super food, it is a shame that this hasn't become accepted well by most as a great sustainable food source and even a bio-fuel. Thanks for sharing!
It has amazing potential to solve alot of problems ,thanks for your input my friend :)
congratulations on 10000 subs mark you deserve many more
Thank you hard cheese :)
My Shrimp go nuts whenever I put some of your food in the tank (thanks again for the nice sample, that I got with my pollen).....I may try this with spinach, since our garden is full with it 👍
Its good to have a use for it because it grows so fast :D
This is really innovative, great job Mark. I will definately try this out!
Yes try it,just dont let it get as dry as mine did before you cut it it ,pizza cutter is good for cutting when its almost dry :)
Shrimp: what’s for dinner? Other shrimp: yum duckweed!
I’ve always kind of liked the duckweed but wondered what I could do with all of the duckweed I’d have to pull out of there. Now I know. ;)
awesome vid and your video quality is getting better each video. keep up the good work
Thank you I have been trying to make them better :)
Seriously an amazing video. Probably one of my favorites from you lol. Very useful
Thank you RiceWater :)
Thanks for the great video Mark!! My goldfish love the stuff so I have been growing it in the shrimp tanks. Now the shrimp can share in the bounty!
My daughters goldfish love it too :)
This is amazing! I really want to get shrimp again now
Thank you for making this video.
My pleasure!
Super cool!I have so much of it in my endler tank,I will make some.
Remember and do the bucket separation thing because I always get tons of baby shrimp in mine when I scoop it out :D
For sure.I always put in in a small container for a few days before throwing it out, always get snails in it.
hey mark might be a silly question but the pollen you use is it just bee pollen thanks
Oh man and I have just been throwing that stuff away when I get to much in my tanks and can't sell it! Great video I will have to try this soon!
oh hello !! I thought you had left UA-cam .
Aww thanks for remembering me! No just been so busy with other things right now. I am really glad to see how your channel has taken off you deserve it I love watching your videos.

Nice Info! I will finally do something good with my duckweed. Thanks dude!
You are very welcome sir ,glad it was of use :)
🚨yummy, TY for sharing!
Hey mark! Any specific brand name of pollen you recommend buying to use for this? I honestly didn't know you could buy pollen until I watched this video and really want to try to make this for my shrimp! I throw out so much duckweed every week but not may have a new purpose for it! Thanks
???? Any suggestions
bee
you are a genius!! im doing this 100%
Great video, very informative. Thank you.
You are always so enjoyable!! ❤
I love duckweed 💚
I have learned so much from watching your videos. Keep up the good work. 😁
Duckweed, like everything it's in front of us all along.
So true
Thank you Mark , but could you put in the oven ? anyways you're the best Mark ; master schrimp..the close up on your shrimps is amazing ; much love chris !
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
you are welcome :)
WOW Mark!! You are so smart!! 😂 Thanks for the GREAT tip, because duckweed can be a pain 😉. Have a nice day!! or actually evening 😊. See you on the next stream!!
Its a pain no more :D
Plz tell me about white powder u use i don't know about
Thanks now i know shrimp also like this duckweed
where do you get the pollen? How do i do a search for it? What name? OOOkay, scratch that question, i just found your awesome online store! Ohhhhh man can hardly wait till payday hahah. You should link your store on your videos. Looks great and reasonable prices for sure.:)
Awesome! Now if only I had some duckweed to make some!
Okay
Idea
Place into double zip, freezer type bags.
Roll down the bag
Date bags
Maybe add a solo drop of a supplement or vitamin
Freeze in a rolled log manner
Thaw in fridge for use
Cut off end and pipe onto a algea wafer like a shrimp cupcake. Drop into tank
Wafers sink, should.stick together, duel food, I'd imagine fun to watch them eat it.
Treat as a treat or make the cupcakes right from the start and sheet freeze, then bag...
Take from bag dwc duck weed cupcake, drop in tank frozen.
If anyone uses this, please let me know! I just came up with the idea to post.
Thanks always Mark!
Would this work with other floating plants like Salvinia Minima?
Damn that’s a nice tank
Got some bad ass tanks!
Might have to try this. Thanks for the info
You are very Welcome :)
You're accent is awesome
Thank you
great information. I am really looking to try this as I am cheap/broke. would you please post the recipe? I am half deaf and can not understand what it is you add to the duck weed. Thank you in advance sir. I have liked the video and subscribed to get every tidbit of knowledge. Thank you again.
Go to the title and touch the arrow. (I watch on my phone). You can pull up the transcript.
I've been putting it in my compost.
Hi Mark,
Have you tried feeding this to any algae eating fish? I'm looking for an alternative food for them and I have lots on duckweeds as well in my tanks.
No I havnt but they probably will like it ,it just all plant matter :)
congrats on 10k subs
Thank you Define :)
Thank you!
Quick question, what happens if you use only duckweed, no other additives?
It doesnt sink so well without the clay
What type of.shrimp u have?
Hi Mark!!! what's that polvo added after having mixed the plants with pólen.... I saw you adding with a white spoon. What is that??
Its a mineral clay called montmorillonite :)
This is.... Awesome!
I've been killing off duckweed in all of my tanks except for one.. And I think that one remaining tank will have to continue to grow duckweed now!
I've been wanting to get some to grow for my koi. No aquarium stores around here have it. They consider it a pest plant. I'll get some eventually.
I sell the stuff loads of people do,You will probably get someone near you that will give it to you or sell it .
Ya, I'm patient, have to be in this hobbie right? I'll get what I need.........😃😃 thanks Mark!
I have tons of duck weed glad to know it's got a purpose now.
+COOPER'S CICHILDS your fish should eat loads of the stuff ☺
very smart. Surely they need other variety in their diets though like eggs, milk, some other random veggies added into this mix to round out their nutrients. You can also dry via toaster oven for 4 hours on 150f.
Love watching these videos thank you
You really need to add a Amazon link so you can get the kick back on our purchases
I tried the amazon affiliate thing a long time ago and I to this day I dont think I have ever made any money from them
@@MarksShrimpTanks You aren't gonna make money if you don't give us links to click on.
This videos has so much long term value. It's 5 years after you made this and I'm here trying to order clay etc.
I would have totally clicked on an affiliate link rather than searching for things. Would have been free money for you and less work for me ;)
Hi Mark, you just leave it there until its dry or you dehydrate it? thx
you have to dry it or it will go moldy very fast within a few days.
What is the white stuff you added? Do you think I can use water lettuce, its leaves and roots, instead of ducksweed? Thanks for all the videos!
Montmorillonite clay, you can use any calcium for it.
Its okay if it just duckweed? No other stuff? Thank tou please reply
"Wow ,!" This makes me hungry!
I am growing more for a taste test :D
What kind of powder and the other stuff you put in the duckweed sir?
Hey Mark, at 02:54 u mention a binder but i can't really quite get what it is, "pollund" , "pollen"? Can u guide me a little to the correct name, and please while you are at it at 06:14?
Would like to try this, i'm making food out of stinging nettles atm, and they are loving it, thanks for that one.
And i have heaps of duckweed, that's why :D
What was the white powder? Thank you
Awesome video!!
+Fonseca Corals thank you!!!!!
Hi man thanks for all. I need to know what are the addiction? The first is pollen but what is the white powder you add by spoon?
Its just montmorrilonite clay :)
nice, thank you for sharing this one bro, I have loads of duckweeds in the pond he he
Does it work on commerical shrimp such as L vannamei?
Wonderful video and tutorial. Thank you for this. May I ask a question please. Is it ok to blend the duckweed when it is still raw (just taken out fresh from the aquarium). It seem yours were first dried and then blend.
Yes you can!
@@MarksShrimpTanks Oh that's wonderful to know! Thank you!
What happens if we don't freeze it before blending it? Will the blended pieces comeback to life later on?
yes sir ,Ive had it grow back from bits that looked dead before.
@@MarksShrimpTanks even after being dried?
finally I'm making this today lol I have but 1/4 of what u had in that bucket can I make it without anything added into it?
To be honest I an not sure it will hold together, you can use flour as a binder if you want or something like agar :)
Hi Mark, what's the reason of adding montmorillonite clay powder? Is it a must to add in the food or optional
no its not a must, its a clay that helps purify water it also has a lot of different minerals in it that the shrimp løike to eat.
@@MarksShrimpTanks cheers mark!
Didn't see a particular mention of it in the comments, but is there any particular reason or benefit of freezing the duckweed? Or can it go straight from water to blender? Thanks.
Only reason was to save it up to be processed Andrew.
Hi Mark, do you ever trim your subwassertang? And do you test your water parameters of all your shrimp tank? Hope you can help me out. Thanks
Yes I trim them every few months ,I do test parameters but normally only when something is wrong ,like now I have a tank where the Taiwan bee shrimp baby's are not surviving and a ph test shows why its 7.2 which is to high.. only other thing I test for is tds :)
thanks for replying, very helpful and kind of you : )
I just got my hands on some duckweed, was wondering if I was to mash up some lawn fertilizer like a gram or two, that has phosphate and nitrogen and added to the duckweed, would it speed up its growth? I just want to use it as a straight up food for my fish.
this is amazing. i have tons of duckweed and now i have use for them
one question, can i made the food without pollen? not sure where to obtain them, or can I use other substitute for that?
oh yes you can use it without pollen, duckweed on its own is a very good food :)
Thanks! i will try it out. hope my shrimp like it
Hey, Thx. :)
I'm currently inundated with African Frogbit, so I should try to find if it has nutritional protein value, fiber content, et al. for use as DIY shrimp / fish food. Do you happen to know?
Brought back fond memories of my family's restaurant and candy business. My great uncle was the candy maker. He'd pour out various candies onto a water cooled table after he had clamped down four (4) stainless steel bars. Then he'd use another bar as a grate to level it all out to a uniform thickness. So, huge THX for that! :)
With a 3D printer one could create and print various molds, like rounds, squares, whatever, etc.
I dont but I will try and find out
Thank you very much for this video it is a great idea
Very welcome scape :)
