I've already watched this video twice lol
@@benbenbus do you use a more painterly style? Because I think that might be the big difference here. I usually draw in a style that starts out with flats and then shading on a separate layer, but when I'm trying to paint rather than draw, per se, I usually have each color on a separate layer, then lock transparency and shade on the same layer.
I remember when I finished my scuffed vtuber model I was screaming and crying "IT'S ALIIIVE!", but yours also look amazing and you've done a really good job! looking forward to the finished thing with tracking :)
As someone who fins the whole “vtuber” thing very interesting *and* becoming a new fan of you this series is really fun to watch and it really inspires my creativity:D
Me with any hobby I pick up, and no one understands why I keep doing things when I'm so angry and miserable about all of them. I don't bother to get this angry about anything unless I am invested in the outcome, and they do not understand that while I AM proud when it goes well, every artwork I have ever even halfway completed was built with my own unending suffering and hatred of God at having to draw a single line of it. They are not the ones who had to make it. Prime example that it is possible to absolutely love something with your whole being, but not even like it a little.
Props for being your own illustrator and rigger. I’m no expert in illustrating and I’m definitely not an expert in rigging, but I’m sure it’s not easy. And you did a great job in doing so, the motions are very clean. I hope to see it in debut. Full respect! 🙏
Probably someone else already pointed this out, but for the eye blinking part you could divide the eyelash in three parts! I draw in a kinda cartoonish style too, and it made it rather easier, even tho it was still really hard
During the adjustments I didn't know whether to laugh at when the characters were flailing around and what I can only describe as "dancing" or be scared by how quickly and unnatural the movements looked. I ended up nervous laughing.
Even though it must of been a nightmare to create this I actually think you did a fantastic job, considering the act that this character had a staggering amount of details! keep up the good work!
the reason your line art got all messy is bc of the vertices, for anything that needs more deformation u need more vertices, for that u can create your own vertices
Yay Part 2 is out! I just watched part 1 this morning and I was hoping it come out today :3 really excited to see what happens. I'm assuming it was not smooth sailing from the title and thumbnail...
For the eyes, I recommend making the mesh for the eyelid really really concentrated with lots of vertices so you can morph it more easily. There’s a great tutorial by Yoshino Art for the eyes that explains eyes really thoroughly.
You should make her sleeves floppy at the ends... also, can't wait to learn her name! Annabelle has a nice ring to it... you could use it to represent a cowbell instead of it being part of her design.
As a animation student who had to learn puppet animation, my experience is VERY similar to yours. The first time I saw my professors demonstrate the program and the timeline tool I felt like I was back in my high school biology class; clueless, confused, and slightly terrified. Now I find puppet animation easier than hand drawn animation 😅
Okay, seeing this video has definitely made me want to make my own vtuber. I've had the project in the back of my mind for a pretty long time now, but I had no idea at all how to go about it so I kind of put it on hold. So far, these videos have given me a really good idea of how to achieve what I want. Obviously it's going to be difficult, but I think I can do it and now I actually understand how to! Can't wait for part 3! Edit: Omg why are people invested in this? I'm literally just some random person- why does anyone care lol? For anyone still interested for whatever reason I have not done any real work on this because I have had a lot of other stuff going on and honestly it's just a really daunting task since I'd be planning to use this as my main avatar, not just a once in a while stream- so there's a lot of pressure to make it really good and something I won't feel the need to replace a few months in.
Honestly this is the most interesting mini series of video from your channel to me. I know absolutely nothing on how to make vtubers models but was always interested, it's really interesting to see a really inspiring artist like you doing the whole process. Your style works surprisingly well w it and she looks so much better than most vtubers out there tbh !! Keep up the good work :)💜💜💜 hyped to see her in action
I ACTUALLY SCREAMED OUT LOUD WHEN I SAW HOW WELL YOU MADE THIS!! HALEY YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! Make sure you take care of yourself and take breaks though! No more 4pm-1am art splurges *bonk*
I've made a Vtuber model before, actually, I'm making a second attempt right now. I use an anime-type style and looking at this cartoony style makes me realise that a cartoony style might need more layer separation for certain parts, maybe drawing the halfway point instead of the default to rigging would be easier later on.
@@xEUN01A I'm sorry, I don't know how to show you. But to elaborate, I just mean that when drawing parts, it may be better to draw them at the half way point on default. For example, when drawing eyes, instead of drawing the eyeline/eyelashes when they are open, draw the as a line or half closed so you can transform then more easily. Same goes with the mouth, drawing a straight lined mouth instead of having a smiling mouth on default. And just draw the eyes or mouth shape you want separately as a sketch to base off your parameters.
Your character is turning out great! It looks like there's a steep learning curve, but believe in the power of tenacity and prevail! I can't wait to see part 3 and the finished product!
quick live2d tip for the chunky lineart vs warp deformer thing!! you can separate the colour and lineart of an object and just put them on the same deformer, then nest another deformer for the lineart. whenever the lineart deforms/doesnt look right, you could always just go back to that lineart deformer, add keyforms to the parameter that you want, then warp it to make it look right! i've seen some live2d riggers separate the lineart so they can manipulate the object look more 3d, i've even experimented with it myself, so I'm sure it can work for your case too!
i'm just gonna add more tips because I'm procrastinating on my live2d creative awards project,,, the eye line crunching thing could be lessened if you auto mesh it to be more detailed or manually editing the artmesh. alternatively, you could throw the path tool right out the window and just use the warp deformed to squish it into place lol if you want a more detailed mouth/want to be able to lip sync in the future, you could separate each layer of the mouth (mouth inside, tongue, bottom teeth, top teeth, bottom lip, top lip) and form them in the parameters into each vowels. overall, your first ever live2d model looks really really good!! things look in place, minimal shifting, lots of movement, very much better than my first ever model,,,,, can't wait for your next part :D
Yep. Difficulties with the eyes. I'm really glad you took off the bandaid and such. It makes the face a lot clearer. I can't wait to see the debut! Also, I just realized that UA-cam unsubscribed me from your videos which is why I just found out that you became a vtuber. Welcome to the team. lol
It's such a blast to follow this experience!! I'm genuinely impressed by your dedication, you've always been inspiring to me and this is only another example :) I love everything about her design, and the way her big cartoony eyes move is sooo adorable!

I love your videos and thanks you for inspiring me to get back into drawing and I love ur videos💜💜💜💜 Edit: btw the character is suuuuper cute!
Hi :D! I've made a few models myself and wrestled with live 2d long enough to have some pretty useful tips in this noggin of mine so I thought i'd share some! I noticed you were having problems with your lineart getting warped? The best way to combat that is to make the meshes yourself instead of having them auto-create at the start. It's SUPER tedious don't get me wrong, but if you carefully surround the inner and outer edges of your lineart before filling the rest in, it will move the lineart a little more independently then the space inside. Following any details or curves in each part, especially in the hair sections, also works really nicely! This is also what prevents your eyes from "crunching"! The more points in the eye area, the better honestly XD although you might want to use LESS of those curvy deform paths since it'll keep things smoother. The "Melting" and weird warping can be helped by editing the amount of points in your warp deformers. If you scroll down in the Inspector tab while having a warp deformer selected, you can change the number of gray points and green points. This is really helpful for stuff you gotta be really precise with when moving. It can be super frustrating when the green points aren't where you need them to be, yknow? You can also use the brush with circles around it tool on the top toolbar! It allows you to move multiple points at once instead of one at a time which feels MUCH more natural to work with. You can also add any images you want as guide images directly into the file itself! To help with confusion on how to handle the face, I honestly just draw out a guide and use it as reference XD it helps things look a lot more 3D, too! I hope this helps
When I tell you I was excited for the next part...... I WAS FRIKIN EXCITED!! I love the character! Her design is beautiful and so unique! You're incredible Lavendertowne, I hope you know that
At the end it looked really great. My concern is that, how is that gonna translate to the motion tracker? Since your real eyes are not that big, and you don't have any flappy ears, how is the camera gonna get that information? Do they just flap when you turn your head? Eye movements are really small and subtle, is the tracker gonna be able to translate that info well?
yea the program kinda just knows because it's meant for this, it knows that they're eyes so it'll blink them when yours blink and you can have stuff like the ear movement to happen automatically like breathing movement or based on other movement she makes
Normal inputs -> non-trackable outputs For example, moving the head will flap the ears, and blinking normally (open eye = 1 and closes eye = 0) will translate to the same thing on the parameters the rigger created. (Model eye 1 and 0)
As someone who has made both their own and several other Vtuber models at this point completely from scratch, I feel these struggles on a very deep level lmao. I've also got a very chunky line art and kinda toony style and figuring out how to move everything without the linework distorting too much has been a struggle and a half. I think you've done a pretty fantastic job so far though!
I LITERALLY FELT SO MUCH SECONDHAND PRIDE WHEN SHE WAS TESTING THE MOVEMENT Fr tho the design is adorable, the rigging is incredible, especially without the normal anime style Please help me I’m literally in love with this design-
This is so cool! This honestly was somewhat easier to understand than many actual tutorials, and I could feel your pain throughout 🤣 Definitely inspired me to work on my model too, thank you and good luck 💜 Your spooky moo-moo is adorable!
This reminds me of the exploring I did in Toonboom Harmony-- however I'm not sure if that software has a tracker option...it totally should tho since it's super expensive! I will be rewatching this a lot to keep up on this for Animal Fort. GREAT JOB HALEY!!!! *emotional crying and happiness*

@@uhhhhrandompersoniguess5567 My own. It’s in the last video if you feel like looking
I love this
the cowbell idea is great!
“It would sound like a MacBook running Minecraft with shaders” is my new favorite quote
re: gimmick suggestions - I think it would be really cute if the cowbell aesthetic was incorporated into her apron! This video really helped put live2d into perspective for me, as someone who's been wanting to make my own vtuber for a while now, and I'm really excited for part 3! I've already watched this video twice lol
the fact she usually uses a single layer fo all the colors terrifies me
Like how? I use like 100 😫
It really scares me- whenever I use the same layer it just smudges the colors into eachother and it's so odd
I usually end up up with 1 color layer but always use more than 1, especially for colors that overlap
@@artpop9722 lmao that's what I do, can't deal with more than like 5 layers max
@@benbenbus do you use a more painterly style? Because I think that might be the big difference here. I usually draw in a style that starts out with flats and then shading on a separate layer, but when I'm trying to paint rather than draw, per se, I usually have each color on a separate layer, then lock transparency and shade on the same layer.
Flipping heck, this is so good and looks amazing!

@I love you!! mine is chibi and sucks lol, but I occasionally stream with it on twtich
I now know why commissioning Vtuber models are so frikin' expensive, my respect of artist go from god like, to cosmic level of respect
As someone who fins the whole “vtuber” thing very interesting *and* becoming a new fan of you this series is really fun to watch and it really inspires my creativity:D
This is already my favorite series, only because I find the idea of v-tubers so cool!
pov me starting any project: oh yeah this is gonna be easy!
me like 2 hours in: 18:44 *this was hellish, this was absolutely nightmarish😭*
Me with any hobby I pick up, and no one understands why I keep doing things when I'm so angry and miserable about all of them. I don't bother to get this angry about anything unless I am invested in the outcome, and they do not understand that while I AM proud when it goes well, every artwork I have ever even halfway completed was built with my own unending suffering and hatred of God at having to draw a single line of it. They are not the ones who had to make it. Prime example that it is possible to absolutely love something with your whole being, but not even like it a little.
Can't wait to see the final product! Your design is adorable
I just realised that the skull on the ribbon looks like The Living Tombstone logo and I can’t unsee it now-
Once this vtuber gets more and more famous The Living Tombstone might make an intro song for her lol
Maybe adding some expressions like Sad and Angry would be good!! Granted it is more work and drawing but those are emotes I find often
This is turning out so cute! And despite how difficult it looks, this still inspires me to make a v-tuber of my own someday. 😀
Same :D
During the adjustments I didn't know whether to laugh at when the characters were flailing around and what I can only describe as "dancing" or be scared by how quickly and unnatural the movements looked. I ended up nervous laughing.
Even though it must of been a nightmare to create this I actually think you did a fantastic job, considering the act that this character had a staggering amount of details! keep up the good work!
the reason your line art got all messy is bc of the vertices, for anything that needs more deformation u need more vertices, for that u can create your own vertices
I’ve been waiting for this so long. Our cowgirl is so cute!
For anyone still interested for whatever reason I have not done any real work on this because I have had a lot of other stuff going on and honestly it's just a really daunting task since I'd be planning to use this as my main avatar, not just a once in a while stream- so there's a lot of pressure to make it really good and something I won't feel the need to replace a few months in.
good luck!! i bet it will look great :)
@@puptaort Thanks! I hope so :)

Keep up the good work :)💜💜💜 hyped to see her in action
i agree :]]
You are the dollightful of digital artists in my opinion and I mean that as an absolute compliment
I think it’s coming out pretty nice so far ngl, their design is pretty cute ^^
I am so excited for part 3. I’m in LOVE with this character and I eagerly await her debut!
Yoooo imagine if Lavendertowne collabed with like, Nyanners or something as a Vtuber
this
That would be sick
i read this comment in nyanners voice because i remembered the video where she detaily explains what would happen if you fart in a elevator
PLEASE
imagine her doing an art stream with Ninomae as their vtuber models
I absolutely enjoyed watching you figuring all the stuff out and putting together you VTuber. It's so fascinating
I've made a Vtuber model before,
actually, I'm making a second attempt right now.
I use an anime-type style and looking at this cartoony style makes me realise that a cartoony style might need more layer separation for certain parts, maybe drawing the halfway point instead of the default to rigging would be easier later on.
I'm curious, may I see the model?
I can't wait to see part 3 and the finished product!
quick live2d tip for the chunky lineart vs warp deformer thing!! you can separate the colour and lineart of an object and just put them on the same deformer, then nest another deformer for the lineart. whenever the lineart deforms/doesnt look right, you could always just go back to that lineart deformer, add keyforms to the parameter that you want, then warp it to make it look right!
i've seen some live2d riggers separate the lineart so they can manipulate the object look more 3d, i've even experimented with it myself, so I'm sure it can work for your case too!
i'm just gonna add more tips because I'm procrastinating on my live2d creative awards project,,,
the eye line crunching thing could be lessened if you auto mesh it to be more detailed or manually editing the artmesh. alternatively, you could throw the path tool right out the window and just use the warp deformed to squish it into place lol
if you want a more detailed mouth/want to be able to lip sync in the future, you could separate each layer of the mouth (mouth inside, tongue, bottom teeth, top teeth, bottom lip, top lip) and form them in the parameters into each vowels.
overall, your first ever live2d model looks really really good!! things look in place, minimal shifting, lots of movement, very much better than my first ever model,,,,,
can't wait for your next part :D
Just got the notif! Part one was really cool, and I’m excited to see your cow babe come to life!
Yep. Difficulties with the eyes. I'm really glad you took off the bandaid and such. It makes the face a lot clearer. I can't wait to see the debut! Also, I just realized that UA-cam unsubscribed me from your videos which is why I just found out that you became a vtuber. Welcome to the team. lol
she looks so cute! It's definitely a good sign that you still love her after struggling with the process so long!
She’s so incredibly cute!! I love her design and the colors and just the vibes she gives off in general!!!
It's such a blast to follow this experience!! I'm genuinely impressed by your dedication, you've always been inspiring to me and this is only another example :) I love everything about her design, and the way her big cartoony eyes move is sooo adorable!
She looks so good! I’ve really wanted to make a vtuber model, the task of designing one and learning Live2d scared me so much >.<
But your videos on making your model have inspired and motivated me a lot to give it a try òvó
to be honest, the sleeves look more like skulls than ghosts, which is fine in my opinion.
edit: also that design is super cute and cool

Edit: btw the character is suuuuper cute!
Holy crap! This is a lot of work. Kudos. Also, wonderful design as usual
It’s amazing that a 2D image can be transformed into a very 3D looking image that is animated!
Dwdw Vtube studio is specifically for anime/cartoon characters
The ears will flap when she moves her head
yea the program kinda just knows because it's meant for this, it knows that they're eyes so it'll blink them when yours blink and you can have stuff like the ear movement to happen automatically like breathing movement or based on other movement she makes
Normal inputs -> non-trackable outputs
For example, moving the head will flap the ears, and blinking normally (open eye = 1 and closes eye = 0) will translate to the same thing on the parameters the rigger created. (Model eye 1 and 0)
This is absolutely amazing!! Her movements are so life-like! This is going to turn out amazing👍♥️♥️
I seriously cannot WAIT to see her in action!
Sooo cute! I’m loving this v-tuber series it’s so fun and interesting to watch the process! :D
The main model stuff would be a *nightmare* for me, like seriously, kudos for that part 😁
Maybe something that might be pretty neat would be a little ear wiggle animation that happens randomly
or just soft floppy ears in general?
Can’t wait to see it in action
Thats so cool! I cant wait to finally see your vtuber debute!
I LITERALLY FELT SO MUCH SECONDHAND PRIDE WHEN SHE WAS TESTING THE MOVEMENT
Fr tho the design is adorable, the rigging is incredible, especially without the normal anime style

Haven’t watched it yet, but I know it’s gonna be good.
"Every single piece that you want to move has to be seperated." Welcome to the life of a GACHA animator
she’s an actual animator lol 💀 rigging isn’t how animation is traditionally done
I guess for 3D animation and models but for traditional art animation you generally don't do this...
@@O_O7z nah im just saying this from my perspective, because i animate gacha and for me i have to seperate EVERY little piece i wanna move and its so annoying
@@korealspiderman animating pre-existing images and art is normally counted as a different category than 2D, 12-24 fps hand drawn frames!
