Ppppppureeee perrrrfeccctionnn. Joke aside that was amazing bro . Brilliant economía!!!! Plus great looking guitar and sound .. fuck !! What's not to love
I need some advice from you sensei. I generally play a lot of riffs advanced riffs and I play them without metronome, but I do often record myself. I hate the idea of playing to a metronome. I have a natural sense of rhythm and I play them at whatever pace I want to play, and I really enjoy it. Playing to a metronome, or any type of practice routine type BS just makes me procrastinate. I don't play guitar JUST to get good at it, I play it very hedonistically, to experience bliss right now. So my question really is that can I expect some results by just following what I like without any focused practise? Also, maybe it's the wrong question because I have noticed a lot of improvement in my galloping and speed, i'm able to play a lot of riffs effortlessly, like battery and master of puppets by metallica. So, I don't know what i'm asking ... 😭😭
Haha! I think you already got it figured out man! I think it's best to just pursue whatever it is that you find most exciting. That changes over time. But going about it this way, you'll probably learn a lot quicker because you'll be very motivated and inspired by what you are working on 🫡
@@AmarAlhoch Thank you so much for replying!! Yeah, after posting this comment, I started practicing alternate picking as well by learning racer x technical difficulties, I've started to craft my routine what I want to play everyday, but in a structured manner. I will soon start practicing to metronome too.
That's good advice there. It's all about lowering tension. The less tension you have in your hand, the less the fingers will move. I would focus on dexterity and strength if necessary. Mostly dexterity.
Thank you! I set my amp with gain around half way, boost turned on, master around 9:00. EQ is around center except bass is a little less. I do use an overdrive pedal as well in front 🎸
Hi Amar, it almost looks like your thumb/finger is making some small adjustments occasionally (little hard to tell as you’re a literal blur at that speed 😅) if that’s the case, is it a conscious action to help with string changes or accenting, or a totally unconscious/automatic correction of some sort?
@@AmarAlhoch thank you for taking the time to answer. I’d imagine it might be these micro-adjustments that hold back a lot of early players. It seems like something that would come with time/experience vs something you could directly target and practice. Super interesting to think the subconscious mind takes over at points and makes these tiny adjustments. Thanks again! Killer playing ❤️
It depends on how many notes are on the next string and what comes after that. I would probably mentally group the notes in a way that makes sense to me across the strings rather than imagining each string being a separate grouping of notes
Is your pain in the fingertips from pressing on the strings, or is there pain in the muscles/tendons of your hand? The former is fine and will go away. The latter means something is wrong with your form and you must correct it so that you don’t develop a chronic problem like carpal tunnel syndrome
@@AmarAlhoch working out is amazing for injury prevention! There’s a reason why physical therapists have people do active exercises in addition to stretches
I agree with everything except one thing. You start with the fret hand leading but to develope perfect timing it's the picking hand leading. Fret down at the exact time the pick is releasing the string.
It took a ton of trial and error to develop. But I'm teaching the approach on Patreon so it doesn't take everyone as long. Perhaps 3 months to start feeling comfortable. And then you just keep on improving forever.
The angle or the slant? The angle I change subconsciously. The slant, only if I'm pick slanting then I'll change it and only when necessary to change strings.
You can try either focusing on one thing that you are super excited about or a full routine incorporating: theory, technique, composition, improv, and songs. You'd have to find what's related to your goal within each category. 🙌
Awesome technique man. You said that you'll answer all the questions. Please, look at this one👇. ❓️¿ What is the best advice to gain speed and accuracy on the guitar? Thanks in advance.
I would say lowering tension and economy of motion. The best thing is to sit there and study your technique and find little tweaks you can make in the mechanics that help you achieve one or both of those things. You want to attempt some higher speeds along the way just to try and catch if any mechanics are holding you back at higher speeds.
I would only focus on one at the time. And I would use the same approach for both, which is taking it one challenge at a time. Isolating every challenge and slowly adding them in along the way. That's the approach I'm using in my course on Patreon. I would use the same for all technique really.
Definitely learn legato. It's not lazy at all. It sounds very different. And when it comes to actually making music, I never really play like this. I prefer a combination of alternate picking, legato, and hybrid picking
I always ask myself why you dont have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. that awesome technical skill AND the great melody and phrasing on your other shorts is just crazy. I play guitar for some years now and still are a sloppy fuck compared to you 😂
I appreciate it! I'm thankful for all the subscribers I have. But I wouldn't complain if I could get hundreds of thousands haha. And keep at it. You'll get it all figured out in time! 🙌
@@AmarAlhoch Thank you for your advice! I find it difficult to switch strings when playing really fast licks when I’m using more forearm. How do you achieve accuracy with forearm movement?
Guitar teacher here. ...yeah, I kinda hate this video. But probably not for the reason you think. Possibly some good tips in here, but it's the presentation I don't like. It's akin to Usain Bolt saying "just relax your hip joints" to run fast. It's technically true, but there's so much missing

Ibanez?? Just askin’ outta sheer curiosity!
What is the most effective practice routine to keep fretting fingers close to the fretboard and not fly around?
Try barely touching the fretboard, and just using your left and hand and don’t pick. Just push down almost as if your not trying to hold a note down
That's good advice there. It's all about lowering tension. The less tension you have in your hand, the less the fingers will move. I would focus on dexterity and strength if necessary. Mostly dexterity.

It's to help with string changes and sometimes to improve my synchronization. Sometimes it conscious and other times it's subconscious 🙌

Your economy of motion is master

How would you tackle a pattern with odd number of notes in one string and even number of notes on the other ?
It depends on how many notes are on the next string and what comes after that. I would probably mentally group the notes in a way that makes sense to me across the strings rather than imagining each string being a separate grouping of notes
When do you increase tempo on an exercise?
There are different approaches I use but generally when I get the tension where I want it or to force myself to push past a barrier
AMAZING

Amar, what a string gauge do you use??? Thanks for vids!! Amazing!! ❤
Thank you! I use an optimized set from The String Source. It's the Amathyst set which is a unique 9-44. Every string feels the same!
Wow! What string action do you have???
As low as I can get it on each guitar. This one is a little below 1mm
How long did it take to master it?
I still haven't mastered it. I'm always trying to improve 🫡
How do I stop my hand from hurting 🫣
Is your pain in the fingertips from pressing on the strings, or is there pain in the muscles/tendons of your hand? The former is fine and will go away. The latter means something is wrong with your form and you must correct it so that you don’t develop a chronic problem like carpal tunnel syndrome
I have found working out has gotten rid of all my joint pains in the hands that I used to get from overuse. 💪
Yes for timing it's a different case. But for synchronization I think leading with the fretting hand helps when developing that particular aspect
@@AmarAlhochThat's true especially with improvisation
How long did this take to train?
It took a ton of trial and error to develop. But I'm teaching the approach on Patreon so it doesn't take everyone as long. Perhaps 3 months to start feeling comfortable. And then you just keep on improving forever.
Does your index finger stay anchored? Or pop on and off the string?
On and off. Lifting it up relieves a lot of fretting hand tension 🫡
Is your picking hand floating? Or is it grounded to the guitars body?
It's touching the bridge and strings. The forearm makes contact as well with the body 🎸
Do you change your pick angle every certain amount of picks?? Missed this earlier!

Is it compulsory to hold the pick like they teach us or is it alrite holding the pick which is comfortable for me
You can hold it how it's comfortable for you as long as you aren't being limited.

How long you been playing ?
It's hard to say since I wasn't consistent all my years but I first picked up the guitar 20 years ago.
So when you sweep pick do you bend your wrist or do you let your arm move with your stroke?
I avoid bending the wrist. Either the fingers will make it work or the arm will move up and down or rotate the way it does on say Vibrato or bends.
