Happy Wednesday everyone! Welcome to a bonus video! Yes that is my music for anyone who was asking! why spotify? why not youtube music.... I cant afford another subscription lol. Also, you need to play track 2 every time you bust out the big head binaural mic!
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
@@7H3541N7 For me, I think the 5 sounds better out of the box, but the 4 gets a very close tone when tuned with some EQ adjustments. I think the 4 still has some harsh sounding distortion though, but is bizarrely more capable at higher volumes despite it's slightly smaller speaker.

Can’t beat a mid-week bonus! 🎉 From what I’ve seen the new dot with clock is the only real worthy upgrade by Amazon and that’s just for the display! If you’re listening to these as your music source I would recommend doubling up and adding an Amazon sub! My daughter loves hers plus it doubles as a tv set up when she’s watching her FireStick! I feel I’ve paid for a Jeff yacht on my own at this point! Lol Great video Paul!

Gen 4 sounds a bit grittier. I feel like the bass is slightly fuller on the 5, but it also sounds a little bit more silent. Is there a difference of EQ settings on the phones (in case they're connected trough Bluetooth)?
Honestly.... If anybody is listening to these for good music sound, they're not really musically inclined. Hell just listening to mp3's your losing so much because of sampling. So, I do love you for the bonus video.
Although the Echo Dot 5 seems good on paper, I decided not to get one after Amazon borked their music library. Forced shuffle is a no for me. What's the point if I can't listen to what I want to?
@@paulhibbert Yeah this is fairly recent and possibly something only over here in North America at the moment. Basically Amazon Prime users woke up to a notice saying there were changes to the music library. It was marketed as getting free access to more songs but with the fineprint of a forced shuffle. Prior to this you could say "Alexa, play songs by Taylor Swift" and she would play a queue of songs by Taylor Swift and only Taylor Swift. Now Alexa will reply "Shuffling songs by Taylor Swift and similar artists" where you may get 1-2 songs you want to hear. Fortunately you can still request her to play a specific song, however even doing this is supposedly not available on Amazon Music. (Cannot verify, I only listen to music through the Echo) If this was a free service I couldn't complain, but I pay a monthly fee for Amazon Prime and I am being treated like I am using a free service.

Nice comparison. To me it sounded like the echo gen 4 from the very get go sounded better and clearer to me compared to the gen 5 before any changes were done. The gen 5 sounded washed out to me (could also just be my headphones settings). In either case the 5th gen echos doesn't seem to add much so I was going to skip them anyways.
I don't know if you have time to answer but I figured you may know this. Will the Echo Dot 4th Generation and Echo Dot 5th Generation link together for a stereo sound? Thanks for your content, always informative and funny.
Personaly, I think they both sound pretty awfull, but IMHO the 4th Gen sounds cleaner. I could not use an Echo dot for anything other than speech recognition TBH.
So basically, what you are trying to demonstrate is... Amazon have done 'an Apple' in that they have taken one version, ever so slightly 'Tweaked' it, and sold it as a, erm, ahem, 'Completely new' version (iPhone 13 to 14 etc)... This time its just a very slight EQ change... Yeah.. Money Grab anyone? 😏. 😎🇬🇧
4 sounds livelier, 5 handles distortion but sounds as though it gets compressed to stop the distortion being apparent rather than being able to cope with the extra volume. 5 does have some nice mid tones as long as it doesn’t get pushed. Most people won’t know the difference so they may well buy on what they are told and in fairness if that’s why they buy then that’s their choice. Luckily we can listen to reviews like yours to hear them side by side before buying something that is different but not worth the “upgrade”. Thanks for the video
The differences are very subtle, I think the new echo dot does have the "warmth" you described, but there is too much emphasis on certain bass frequencies which give it a kind of muddy sound. Almost like the "improvements" are just increasing low frequency volume, and with the size of the device it loses some clarity on the high end and it just starts sounding a bit dirty in the mids. There is no work on improving clarity or frequency response.
But…. but… it has the words “new” and “improved” … those words were not on the old one….. wait….. ahhh heck…. the current one was also new and improved when it came out… I think the BIG point here is they both really are not good, so buy something else if you really want good sound. If ya just want to listen to music and quality of sound is not important, the old one is better.

Its via a youtube video so I know the audio is worse than in person but to me the 4 sounded better. Before tweaking I personally think the 5 has a bit to much base.
I can't see much point to listening to music on any version of Echo Dot,On the rare occaisions I do,I have a perfectly good hifi setup to do that which will do a great big wee wee on anythig the Echo Dot/s can produce..........................................

Hi Paul, hope your doing well, I wanted to know if you know a way to connect the echo dots (in stereo mode) to an iPad Pro M1, at this stage I can only seem to get it to work on the fire stick 4K but no other device in stereo mode, actually only one echo speaker ever connects
They both sound like they're playing through an old sock, My Echo (Not Dot) (3Gen) sounds F ***ing awful too ,no matter how much I adjust the equaliser . the most annoying thing I get with my Echo is sometimes Alexa sounds like she's got a lisp, so I blast my Denson DeMagic demagnetiser test tone on it and its ok again for awhile.
Lots of pumping chat 🤣 a grown adult and I still sniggered every time you said it. Seriously though thanks for the bonus video Paul, I won't be buying a gen 5, not worth the small and dubious upgrade benefits
I'm thinking of doing more midweek stuff that is just unscripted and off the cuff, so there will be less humour in those videos, but the weekend videos will always be packed full of of wigs and nonsense 😂

The audio isn't playing via Bluetooth. The dots are fetching the music from Spotify server over Wifi, I'm just using the phones to control Spotify 🙂🙂

My gen 4 sounds good to me… bass and sound fill the room with no problems and when paired it’s even better.
There is probably no tweeter in either. When you increase the size of the speaker. The lows will sound better and the highs will sound worse

For me, the Gen 5 sounds muddy when compared to the Gen 4 on this video. There is more clarity in the music in the Gen 4 to my ears.
New one sounds more muffled to me.
Think I'll stick with the 4th gen.
I am still buying gen 3 echo dots. Looks like that won't be changing anytime soon.
Not even sure if the video is good but I'll give it a thumbs up so UA-cam recommends it.
It would be interesting to put a scope on the speaker terminals to see if it's the signal or speaker.
