@@parkerthams6331 still great, and the vortex solo sits in my HS Micro Chest rig, right beside a vortex ranger range finder as part of my hunting kit, Thanks for asking and hope y’all are happy an healthy
I used kinda similar stuff, soviet БПЦ 8x30 with rangefinder reticle. Each mark equals 5 units or 18 MOA. D=(L/n)x1000. For example, for 1.80 meter human fitting in 5 units marks distance equals 360 meters. But it's hard to measure height of target with so rare scaling, escpecially with shaking hands, so Vortex reticle can be more precise and useful. But it cool stuff for "prepper" man. It's small, weights nothing, handy and allow to stalking babushkas two blocks away.
An additional reason not to rely on a laser rangefinder. With a military grade short wave infrared camera, the laser pulse from your civilian rangefinder can not only be detected but can be used to accurately direct fire on you. Here is an example, ua-cam.com/video/Hmh2hbZLxWg/v-deo.html There are automated anti-sniper systems that triangulate those pulses, in addition to gunshot shockwaves.
Great video. I have a few pairs of quality binoculars, a couple of laser rangefinders, and of course many, many ranging scopes, but never really thought of this. I never really knew that this existed or realized the hole in my prepping that this fills until I saw this video. With coupon codes it is close to $110 from what I can tell. Definitely think I should pick this up. Thanks again!
I kinda dismissed the ranging feature of this while looking at monoculars. Not sure why but now I really like it and this will probably be the one I butt now. Thanks! Helps that I in Oregon too. This video has shown me your channel too!
the Solo is a solid choice, but i sprung for the RECCE Pro instead for a few reasons. its made in Japan, which means very clean glass. it has tethered dust caps both front and back, and a molly pouch instead of the cheap, neoprene "protector" the solo comes with. yeah, its 2x the cost, but you get what you pay for.
I wish they made this in a 25 mm like the non ranging version. Then you could easily fit it in a chest rig compartment and maybe squeeze it into a pistol mag pouch.
You might want to learn and use the major number mnemonic system so you can memorize your entire list of calculations. That way you dont calculate at all, you just compare with what you see and pop out the result from.memory.
I received my R/T today. It has a great image, one just has to align his eye perfectly with the optical axis so he doesn't see black on either side which is pretty easy to get :) . But that's just a matter of training. The eyering does not keep flipped but that's because the rubber is new and elastic. It is also stiff to rotate and they don't even mention the possibility of eyering rotation in the manual... The only drawback is the case, they no longer supply the sleeve you show in the video, but a cheap-looking case with velcro. :-(
Great review. Looking at getting one and you answered a lot of questions. Do you mind advising if you need your glasses for reading or distance and does it have any effect on the monocular use? Cheers Stu NZ
The Celestron Oceana 8x42 monocular includes a ranging scale in milliradians. Good: it also includes a compass, though the compass does not rotate freely through the full 360 degrees on mine. Bad: it has only one focusing adjustment, so for objects at most distances you have to choose between having the reticle in focus or the object in focus. (The Vortex has separate focusing for reticle and object).
Excellent presentation! I'm checking this product out for price and purchase. Medford born, Duck Alum. In exiled to Minnesota. Keep up the good work! Best of Luck Oregear!

Binoculars are better. You get a 3D view and compact binocs will occupy about the same space and same cost. Monoculars are good if you are a pirate with one eye and a patch over the other.

No they're not and no you don't. That's a whiney old baby excuse too, you don't need "3D" anyways and that doesn't actually work unless your using Porro prism binoculars and only from a short distance. Again useless baby reasoning. Stop being weak.
My wife bought me this the first year we were dating(3 years ago) knew I had to marry her after that bday!
I saw the 2 years ago and have to ask, hows it going?

Great review. No batteries needed the same reason I carry a magnetic compass and maps in my bag.
Same here

Great review. Thank you for making the people learn the reticle themselves. So good on you.
I have a non reticle Solo, and didn't even know this existed... in 15 min, I will own two Solos.
Thanks!
Ha, just got to the part where you talked about your friend... While I'm not that friend, I am someone's. 😜
Awesome product. I think it would be sweet if primary arms did something like this with a variant of the ACSS reticle.
I agree! I might have to ask them about that.
Yeah my plan is to buy a 1-6 acss scope from them for one of my ARs so it would be awesome to have a range finder with a comparable reticle
Kyle Booher dude I was just going to make the same comment!! That would be sick!!

Sounds like this would pair nicely with a mildot master.
I really appreciate the content, honesty, and perspectives you share.
very thorough video, and useful info. Thank you
Yes sir, I’m going to get one
Really great and helpful video - thanks for sharing
Great video. Mine is coming today
Great review, I know you posted this 4 years ago but if you haven't already I would highly recommend a mildot master.

An EMP??!! :D Yes, at least I'll have a working monocular when Skynet finally attacks. Now pass me my tinfoil hat, someone?

you'd have to suck the power down to 5 or 6 if you want it to get enough light for its magnification.
@@wrenchist but they already make a 10 power in 25mm. It just doesn't have the etched reticle.
Meh. That doesn't mean it's good
Good Stuff!!! Very Concise!!!
Cool review!!! Thanks.
Would have bee good to add the formulas for yards and meters in your description.

Did you purchase it thru Amazon?
No, it was some other e-shop here in the Czech republic.
well done my friend.
Good video very helpful.
Love it! Just ordered one. Smart move with the cheat sheet too.

Thanks for the review! Quick question - my focus ring rotates only about half a rotation, if that - is that intended or is mine a bad unit?
Recommend Vortex solo R / t 8x36 gosky titan 12x50 or wingspan optics vingspan titan 12x50
So what you are saying is that buying this would be a better option than buying condoms in bulk? I'm a little confused, please clarify.
You know, that’s something you’re going to have to decide for yourself. Everyone’s priorities are different.
Condoms are only necessary if your sex act risks pregnancy. You'll be fine... buy the monocular.

Good review I think I’ll be getting one!! Cheers
Probably not. I really think I’d be doing you a disservice by not letting you learn how to or practice doing it
whats it like over shorter distances say 100-200 yds/meters?
Eventually you’ll run out of rounds too lol

Has anyone used something like this for hunting?
Pardon my ignorance but could this product be used to identify targets at long range, if i have no need to determine range?
It has 8x magnification so it would magnify distant targets.
are these good for hunting ?
If you know the height of objects
How is it in low light conditions?
Depends on how low light. I’d say it’s comprable to anything else in this price range
Militia member?
Do you have a MOA version or it is in MRAD?
This is in MRAD
