My Dad passed away and loved to sail. We had to sell his Laser sail boat because no one in our family knows how to sail. I told my mom to keep his Windsurfing equipment so we can at least try that out one day, and this makes me confident I can learn! I'm so excited to get out on the water :)
Great idea! I will be learning soon also and I am a middle aged woman so wish me good luck ! Take care and have fun!
do it, don't talk about it. put up or shut up.

Try to use the laser! It's very simple and great!
You should have kept that Laser as well, and learn how to sail it. You have no idea what you are missing. Laser sailing is pretty close to windsurfing, it can be just as spectacular. You made a big mistake.
The best for a non-native English speaker! Thank you guys so much!
Aaron Agassi you are welcome. More videos on the way
@@brightmacsworld8353 nothing to do with windsurfing
one of the best experiences I have ever lived when I was young.... sailing on windsurf is unforgettable !!!!!
Last week I bought a beginner windsurfer. Today I made my first practices using what I learned here. At 75 I thought i needed a new challenge. I was able to get the mast up from the water and at times sail a few feet. Sometimes I was able to stop and get of gracefully and other times a big splash. I was also able to climb on in water depth at my armpits. Long way to go. Looking now to compare what’s I was doing to the videos. Awesome! Thank you. Andrew

Thanks Phil , I love all your videos. It's really clear and comprehensive also for people that not speak a fluent english. I'm starting windsurfing and I have build your in home simulator. It's really useful and amazing for learn the positions and manouvers. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowlage
this looks so fun! I want to try!
Thanks so much for the video!!! I windsurfed as a child and had no idea what to call anything or even explain it to my kids... loved this video... great beginning step to bringing this into my kids lives!!! Thanks again and weeeeeeeeeee........
Your voice is very soothing, makes it easy to understand. Thank you so much this really helped me feel more comfortable before my windsurfing lesson. Stay safe !
Many thanks, great reminder as I am going to start windsurfing again after many years. Will do a refresher course today but wanted to remind myself of the basics.
Great video! I’ve never windsurfed before, but just wanted to get an idea of what it’s like and to know some of the basics, so I could figure out if I would like to do it myself or not. Very clear explanations and easy to understand. Thumbs up!👍
To anyone who is new to Windsurfing, wear a compass and take reading of where your land is before sailing. I and another guy rented windsurf boards back in 2003 at South Padra on the Gulf and went out not paying attention ending up way out at sea before we realized it about an hour before sun set. We found a Bouye climbed up on it and still couldn't see land but decided to follow the Bouyes hopefully back to land. As it got dark, we started seeing some small sparkles of light miles away and out of pure luck we landed back on the beach we started, that was a real shocker, we were thankful. We took the Windsurf boards back to the rental place and they had closed up shop. If we hadn't got lucky and found our way back, I don't know when anyone would've searched for us out there.
All this tells me is you’re a cretin.
Such a wonderful description of the sailing position at 11:00. Especially moving the sail to the balance point - and how to put your feet and lean back!
Went with a buddy recently, I knew nothing, he's a novice?, so not much accomplished that day . . .
Got myself a board now, going 2nd time tomorrow, after studying this clear and simple video.
I'm already more confident just with the info you've provided, thanks!
- Wish me luck!!
PS I started sailing a 22' sailboat, single handed, about 6 years ago, plus kayaking, (and cold water swimming, awesome!!)
enjoy the water guys : )
Thank you! Love the soothing music and voice, now I can congrads myself of officially having the first windsurfing lesson!
Great beginner lessons, thanks!!!
amazing training video.
Thank you!
Very helpful! Today I will probably try windsurfing again after 2 years and this video made me remember almost everything I knew. Thank you!👍
I just went windsurfing again yesterday after 30 years. I took a lesson for safety’s sake. It all comes back to you. I was out there sailing back and forth in no time. Do it.
I wish I could like it a million times
Excellent!👍 Thank you for sharing!🙏
THIS* is what i wanna try! Great explanation and demos!
Very very well done!
Thank you very much! I just start learning windsurfing and went through one basic introduction course, everything was fine in the course and I did tacks and gybes successfully, today is my first day for practice alone without my coach, quite confused, just can not go up wind.. But much clear now after watching your video, thank you again!
ditto. Thanks
thanks for an awesome video. I will give it a try soon
Im just gonna say Thank you For Your Tutorial Im Happy For ayou
Superb tutorial!
It's actually called a centerboard, daggerboards are easily detachable and slide up and down while centerboards are fixed to the board or hull and slide from a horizontal to a vertical position as demonstrated in this video.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much!

This is very instructive! Thanks!
Tried it out today on an old mistral board and did nothing but swallow water for an hour. Will be hitting it again tomorrow and hopefully this will help!
I just started, its gr8

Great video guys and such chilled vibes - defo want to book a lesson local to me 😁
thanks a lot, very useful for beginners AND others
Great video, apart from the gloomy music! I've just bought a windsurfer and am a beginner so will be watching this again. Thank you, very helpful and all makes perfect sense
Glad the video is helpful. Unfortunately there is only so much royalty free music available to us..........I don't suppose you fancy composing some for future videos ;)
My brother in Oz might record something for you. He's a very good folk guitarist. I'll ask him
Great video, thanks!
Well made content!

Perfect thanks
Thank you for video
Awesome ! Very easy explained everything I love this tutorial. Today I am going to try windsurfing in Almerimar, wish me luck! :)
good luck, enjoy!
Hello,
I am 60, I have started to learn alone with the help of your videos on an old 11' long 150l F2 board from the '90s and a matching 6m² Tiga/Neil Pryde sail. I like it and I am not going to change because this is the board I have and I don't have more budget. I recognise that it is not stable and I have to be careful where I put my 67kg weight. I have been sailing for 50 years but never on a windsurfer. I have been out 4 times and I am making good progress. Do you know any good online teaching videos from the ¯90?
THANKS
I'm taking a class on windsurfing. :D
Great Thanks
thank you so much
i love this video....extremely super....thank you.does windsurfing is basic for sailing a yacht?
thank you for the information. I guess I was balance problem when I stand up on the board. Cause I took the mast much more to my self and I I was jump the water to my back. 😄
Glad it was helpful!
thanks!
what significance does positioning of the uj have? why did you choose to lock it in the middle?

Every time I stand up to raise the sail using the uphaul, the board will wobble and shake and I will fall. It was quite frustrating yet this video shows her doing it smoothly!
Sounds like a bigger board would help with this
No. This video was done in a small protected bay or lake. Typical condition with wind there is "always" chop/waves in the water. Rare that you can just have wind with no waves. So, yes staying on the board on water rocking back/forth/up/down is part of the "actual conditions".
Here's a few tips:
a.) When you feel unstable then just "drop" that sail and grab the line again.
b.) If you fall back "grab the mast and yank the sail towards you" to grab the wind and stop your fall. Do it quickly and release quickly.
c.) If you fall forwards "grab the mast and push the sail down to the water". It will arrest your fall into the water. Do it quickly and release quickly.
Nice ...
super cool
nice vid, when you tack or gybe, do you use your feet to rotate the board?
Yes, absolutely. How did you know about this. One of the things instructors never mention, because they want you to "glide" into the turn like a freakin sailboat. Well a windsurf rig is not a sailboat and it can do more. So, you've figured it out.
It's just logical. The sail blows/rather "cuts" into the wind and "stays in that position parallel to wind" then everything else moves around with it. Yes, sheeting in tack or gybe direction only bends the sail into the wind a little to fill the sail, but the sail never crosses the wind(unless you are intentionally setting up/flipping the sail for turning....and then it instantly whips back into the "cutting" position with wind). You can even do a 270 degree tack or jibe, just by brute forcing the board. Especially, if you need to do a quick reverse. Keep on...
Shall try Not to sail too far out or might require a tow back to shore
awesome video! thx! But have a question to anyone, has anyone tried windsurfing having a bad lower back? I am terrified to have it hurt again but windsurfing seems to be awesome try.
+NorthWind You should probably get advice from your doctor.
GetWindsurfing windsurfing coaching understoooood. cheers"
As a beginner you will "fall" and "fall" and "fall". Many times it will be unpredictable and your body will jerk and twist in all different position. Falling on your fingers, arms, elbows, shoulders...it all depends on how agile you are. Lower back bad? Forget it. Only, advanced/intermediates with many years of sailing can just pop up and "cruise" without falling. You don't need a sailing coach you need a personal trainer to get your back into shape. There is hope. I have a bad back, myself....I know the pain. Keep on!!
cheers for the advice fellas.
I have a few problems with my back and I have been sailboarding for the past 3 years. learning with the uphaul rope was definitely harder, remember to lean backward and let your weight lift the sail up instead of pulling the sail up with your shoulders.. otherwise ask someone else to show you how to beachstart, when you do it properly, the wind lifts everything for you and it is pretty effortless.
otherwise, once you are planning, there is not much back work. the harness holds it in position and you simply bend your knees and lean back to manoeuvre.
try to find a light mast and boom.
where is this?
Is core strength, leg strength or both the most important for successfully learning to sailboard? I want to train this winter so I can learn this summer.
Yes, absolutely when "beginning" due to falling down, getting back up, and just hanging onto the mast(until you learn to use the harness). It's the wind, it's the wave and the weight and sail power that you must learn to tame. Grip strength especially. For core it helps but "knowing" how to use both legs and back simultaneously to lean with power and quickness. However, once you get it you learn to use/grab the wind. I've seen older guys in 60's get out there
Don't forget to rise the middle fin
how do you find such a place with 0 waves and actual wind? we have here 0 wind and minimum 1m waves... :D
I know one olympian who won Olympic Gold at this sport (Lee Lai-shan 1996 Team British Hong Kong)
Is a 4.5 sail and a 150 litre board adequate for starting?
Ok!
My back hurts just watching. Is windsurfing taxing on the back or arms, holding that sail and with the wind all the time?
During the learning process pulling, falling and getting up is "very taxing". Once, you get proficient it's not your arm, back that you need to worry it's your wrist. They will cramp and gloves won't help. Then you get a harness and efficient!!! You could be 70 yrs old and be able to windsurf if you know how.
@@trexinvert hey cool thx for the insight
Pity you didn't set the boom height for your assistant as mentioned at the beginning otherwise very informative :)
Thanks for the comment. The boom is in the correct position. It raises when put on the UJ. This moves the boom from armpit height off the board to shoulder height on the board. Danielle is the same height as Phil. Hope this helps explain. :)
Please, turn on subtitles 🙏
Can a windsurfer double as a paddleboard? I want both but- you know, $$$$.
Some are specifically designed for this

Your voice is so smooth you should do some asmr videos
Not bad at all.
I don’t think I’m strong enough to lift the equipment. Darn. I was hoping this would be a good alternative to surfing since there are no waves here
I'm not an expert but I think there are different sizes, so if you have a small stature you get a small windsurf. No excuses, go do it :)
Viola Rose modern equipment is very light. Especially for beginners
GetWindsurfing windsurfing coaching thank you! I found a place to take classes and I hope trying out the equipment will help me figure out what works before investing 💕💕
It is a centre board not a dagger board
You are talking to a million people audience. But man, that slow talking tip is only good, when you are in a huge building. In this video, you definitely had a hypnotic effect on me. I stopped thinking, is that good?
Has positives and negatives. I get a lot of viewers who like me to speak slow as english is not their first language or they are not confident in it. However, for some more natural English speakers the narration may seem unnaturally slow / hypnotic. Hard to get the right balance, i'm working on it to sound more natural. Most important though is that the correct info is delivered in a simple and easy to understand way
It’s a centerboard, not a daggerboard. Daggerboards go up & down. Centerboards swing up & down.
Holding the Mast is wrong the foot that is in front the same hand of in front you grab the boom not the mast I learnt from a proper wind surf in structure who thought wind surf for 5 years
Why do you think it is wrong? What part/section? Generally interested to hear your thoughts on this.
I can appreciate you might do it differently but there are more that one way of learning that can be affective.
Pretty sure I seen something big and dark to the right of herwhen she was turning around.. def not hershadow

Constructive comment. About as useful as a chocolate teapot. Thanks.
@@GetWindsurfing well said🤣
The feeling you get when you get airborne is pure exhilaration. I have been windsurfing for 38 years, it's always a new experience, needless to say Windsurfing is my favourite sport.
John Brittingham whereabouts do you go and can you teach me ? :-)
Thank you so much!
Awesome. Took lessons years ago. Got a board yesterday that a neighbor
wanted to give away (!).
I think this'll get us started, as a family (have teenagers, now). They
might like this better than my slow sailboat : ) Thank you for
posting!
Thanks for the video. I’ve been trying to learn how to windsurf and this helped a lot
Hmm, I like how they teach turning before sheeting in. Good idea.
Very helpful for me and i think for other beginners, too. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! You're really good at explaining and you don't leave any details to the inexperienced imagination!

Thank you for uploading this video I have been looking for a video like this for a long time to get started but, I couldn't find it! Every thing is perfectly explained, I recommend you to add subtitles.
Super useful. Thank you
this looks like a lot of fun
I really would like to try now:D you got a new sub;)
Thank you very much, all your videos are very useful, also appreciate good quality of picture and understandable comment. Hope it helps me in my water-wind-battle training :-).
thank you for your positive comments. good luck with your windsurfing
Beautiful
Thank you, Sir.
Sir aap bhi kar rahe hain? India mein kahan ?
Thank you, very nice video! I'm now starting windsurf with a techno 283 150 lt board, so its kinda difficult at the beginning xD
Great that you are giving it a go. Your board is not perfect for a beginner but it will be possible. It will be a nice board for you as you progress. Good luck and Enjoy
I did a clsss and they had us pull the rope to turn the board. This looks way better.
Thank you for the video! As a beginner I was taught a different sailing stance with my foot right by the mast but in the video I see the person has it a little ways from the mast, parallel to the center line. Is either ok?
As you feel more speed and power move further back and further to the side. when you have less power move more forwards and more central. Check out these other videos for more details and understanding on the subject. ua-cam.com/video/yfTNYs1mBPg/v-deo.html Video on stance and harness. ua-cam.com/video/WB30KgpTnZ4/v-deo.html Video on planing and footstraps
