I am really enjoying your sea shell adventures without having to breathe in the Florida humidity. Lived in Michigan & Ohio for too many years to enjoy the Humidity. Recently was in Naples, caring for my elderly parents, now in Northern California
@4,000 ft...not much humidity here. . Caring for remaining elderly parent. Grey squirrels, varieties of bird summer v.s. winter; deer, black bear, coyote & skunks, rats, mice... usual Forest critters; none with hard, colorful 🐚 shells, however. Spring is blooming, pollen in the air & on the vehicles... yep, not much humidity! Not rain, either, in our drought (not-filled) waters. May you enjoy your day!

Wow those were some great finds! Those big shark eyes and the horse conchs were amazing! I do think you have to get at like 2-3 in the morning to be the absolutely first one out. I've been to the beach at 3 in the morning before (as you've said I am one of those loons haha) and I only ever start to see other people after around 4 AM. Admittedly, that was during the off season but I don't think too many people go at that time anyway. Also, that big shark eye has some discoloration I think due to it being buried in anoxic sand/mud. This happens due to low oxygen levels and it's cool to see how that black was implemented in the growth of the shell! Thanks for sharing, hope you're doing well!

A fairly big horse conch (tan/orange about 4-5 inches long), and tons of alphabet cones (one was very big at 2 d 1.5 inches) and the colors were just so amazing. Tons of pink and orange shells there. I think the colors change some based on the type of algae and other things they're eating. Anyway, bunch of other great ones too. Hi Sharmon,
The shells are gorgeous! Congratulations with those two large shark eyes and that horse conch!
Those calico scallops are so beautiful. Really love them a lot.
I saw a UA-cam video of another Florida sheller who went to West Gulf Drive. She found shell piles all over the beach. It was insane.
I've got a question: will that black bay scallop get it's color back when you have it out of the water?
The reason I ask is because I follow several London mudlarks who are mudlarking the Thames. They find a lot of black clay pipes. They are black because the mud they are laying in has less oxygen. After they retrieve the pipe it will take a few days but then it will be white again.
Can't wait to see your next kayak adventure and all the goodies you have found.
    Wishing you a wonderful week.
Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

Those dark shells will stay dark. They too were buried in sand that didn't have a lot of oxygen in it so the chemicals in the shells make them turn dark. Interesting about the clay pipes!
It's so hard to choose which beach to go to after a storm. They are all probably outstanding and I'm always hoping I've chosen the right one!
I hope you have a wonderful week!

I tried wearing surf boots but the water still gets in my shoes. I've given up and I just wear my regular beach shoes. It's not so much the water is cold, it's the cold wind on wet feet that make it a bit chilly 🥶

Lol. All the lights on the beach! I have a rough time when I go really early too. But, sadly, the early bird really does get the worm... Oh I see a bunch of night lights!😁 Beautiful shark eye! Some of those that size washed up here too. Nice horse conch! LOVE the gold and burgundy scallop! Very pretty crown conch! I must say the live calico scallops you have are to die for. Just absolutely gorgeous! Egg cockles are fairly common up here. I'm thinking I may have sent you one. They can be really pretty pink or orange on the inside.

I would seriously need to be out there at 2am to "beat" anyone to the shells. I may try it one of these warmer days 😅 I find all these shells all over the beaches down here, but Sanibel hands down has the best scallops! I was thrilled with that little pony and it cleaned up so pretty!

I love your videos and look forward to them coming out each Sunday. I thought in the second Horse Conk shell you found that there might have been a hermit crab? I wish I could attach a picture that I took from your video to show you the area of the shell I was wondering about. Sometimes those little hermit crabs are so hard to see. We found some really nice shells when we were at the beach and left them on the front porch overnight and the next morning, 3 of the shells had “moved themselves” over against the side of the house. 😳Needless to say we put those little fellas in a shallow dish with water and returned them back to the beach asap.

    • @SWFBeachLife

I've accidentally come home with hitchhikers and I brought them right back to the beach. I'm lucky I live close! Now I check my shells REALLY well, especially when shelling near the water. You are right - those little crabs can really hide in those smaller shells. You can email me photos if you like to swfbeachlife@gmail.com
