Thank you for reviewing this!! I have a Bergara Competition in 6GT and was on the fence about this barreled action. Time to ditch the b14r and get the heavy!
I just put together one of these, threw it in an aero solus chassis with a triggertech diamond and a Bushnell match pro ED, and bolt shims. I'm currently trying to find ammo that shoots well in it. So far, I've tried SK rifle match, Eley target, Eley club, and CCI green tag. My results pretty much mirror yours. I'll have to try some of the RWS and Lapua when i can get my hands on them. Not really a lot of that stuff available to me locally, so I'll have to hunt some down online. Thanks for the info!
Great video Josh. I have a similar setup with the heavy barrel B-14R and have had accuracy issues. I'm looking forward to your second video on some modifications to help improve its accuracy.
Hah I bought the original version of the B14R. Immediately swapped out the barrel for a 1.25" dia 20" long 1/12 IBI barrel with a Trigger Tech trigger. Love it. Great trainer. Super fun for NRL22 type comps.
I got one from the first batch. I love this b14r heavy. I have it in a foundation stock/Hawkins bottom metal and with a Trigger Tech Diamond. So far, its shoots SK Rifle pretty good. It shoots RWS R50 slightly better. SK Long Range shoot the same as the SK Rifle. Have not tested any Lapua or Eley yet. I'm running a Vortex Strike Eagle 5x25 and I'm using my Carbon barrel B14r's bolt with a Crossroads Precision shroud and spring. I bought the shim kits but have not used it yet. I figured I'd try different ammos first to weed out the bad ones it don't like.
I’ve found that when switching ammo, maybe 10 ‘fouling’ shots of the new ammo before each test group yield a more representative test group. Usually, all decent ammo shoots reasonably well at 50 yards or so, but really show accuracy, or lack of, at 100+ yards.
Like your work. I often wonder what range the shots are ..I miss the info or forget ..id love to see 50m or 100m or yards...near the target. Id also like ot see the aim point an inch under the impact point...so your aim point is never deteriorated. I'm interested in the heavy barrel option. That Bergara B-14R went up in price but "that's par for the course" when it get as popular as it did (shoots well). Saving $400 dollars towards your favorite stock sure helps though, way to go Bergara! 🥥🥥 Very good shooting! Yes sir is always like that with rimfire ammo, one has to test everything to really find out that one or two best rounds that the rifle prefers. Is always fun for me and one gets to know the rifle. Great explanation 🫡.
Looking to get one, a bit nervous about potential reliability issues or getting a dud. Already have a 457 in 17 for varmint hunting, wanted something 700 pattern to fit my center rifle stuff. Josh, can you tell me the barrel diameter for the Bergara B14 22lr Heavy? I have ordered one and the chassis I hope to use has a max diameter of 1.25 inches. Thanks
Okay - you spent $1100 for a barreled .22 action, added a chassis ($?) but because the scope is like $350 you somehow think you're "trying to keep it 'budget'"? Not too many of us have that kind of budget.
But the folks buying this action are usually folks shooting competition, and trying to save money over a vudoo or rimx, so technically it is a budget setup. Sad part is my regular barreled b14r shoots better than this heavy version from what i have seen so far.
