I'm an 82 year old boat carpenter who spends more time enjoying videos like yours than I do in my shop thanks to sore joints etc. A lot of my body parts hurt these days and what doesn't hurt doesn't work but I still love spending time building nice projects. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to watch you build this nice bench. You have combined modern methods and machinery with a very high level of workmanship and you even pick up a plane or a chisel too. I have worked with some top-notch craftsmen and you can hold you own with any of them. By the way, they make mistakes too. I'm looking forward to watching you build some more interesting projects.
This workbench would tell someone everything they need to know about you as a woodworker. It's beautiful.
☺️☺️☺️
Tamar, this workbench is so beautifully executed and versatile. I want to cry at the unbridled elegance and utility of this object. You are an engaging, terrific teacher and a master craftsperson. It is one accomplishment to design and make this workbench… and yet another to explain HOW to make it, with sufficient details to inspire others to follow in your path. Thank you for your generosity of spirit.
Wow. This comment almost brought me to tears as well! I worked so hard on this project, so it is so amazing to get feedback like this. Thank you for making my day with the comment.
@@3x3CustomTamarх
First off, this bench is absolutely amazing! Second, thank you so much for being willing to show us when things go wrong or when mistakes happen. For those of us still in the "make something garbage and learn from it" phase, seeing highly skilled woodworkers make the kind of mistakes that we would make and still turn out great work is super encouraging because it reinforces the idea that skill isn't about not making mistakes, but knowing how to fix them and not panic when they happen. I learn a lot from your videos!
Я знаю что он хороший но какая модэль?-У этой фирмы несколько моделей.
The bench looks amazing! Great job! That ankle roll looked extremely painful. Glad to see you've recovered and feeling better
Thanks so much! It ruined my summer… but I’m back in action 👍
Your projects are interesting. You explain things well. I’ve learned a lot from you in the last three years. I’m very happy for your new shop and the tool improvements. I’m excited when you get a new tool lol. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to show the ankle roll. A person with a big ego would have just skipped that. The bench is awesome. I love how you incorporated ideas from a Rubio but made it modern. Well done and please keep these exciting projects coming!
Tamar, I’m not squeamish in general but know well the feeling you experienced at that moment, and got a case of the heebie-jeebies watching that slo-mo… kudos for not having to bleep the whole next 5 minutes .
Your bench is a testament to your growth as a woodworker and you SHOULD be super proud of it.. seriously considering a near duplicate adjusted to my height and needs!!
THANK YOU for being yourself!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes!!! A dog hole template that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! Very excited to use this, you’ve inspired me to finally tackle a workbench. Took a lot of inspiration from you, thanks for sharing your work!
Awesome! So glad we can make it affordable! Have fun with your build!!!
What a fantastic bench! I really enjoyed watching it come together! Love the design and all the features. You clearly put a lot of thought into it!
Thanks so much! So many sleepless nights!
I am low-key in love with this workbench! Wow! congratulations on a lovely work of art that is going to serve you well for years to come!
Thanks so much! I keep staring at it!
Wow. Incredibly thoughtful design!! Just thinking this through must have taken months or years. Your projects are always incredibly impressive - thanks for continuing to share with us!
Lots of years in the making!
@@3x3CustomTamarouch that looked painful. Poor thing. Ouch. But the build is incredible. Great job.
Marrying two benches like this is brilliant and just the idea I needed for a small shop.
Awesome. Glad you like it!
@@3x3CustomTamar I took the idea and added a flip-top for my chop saw (REALLY small shop). Using BB Plywood and pine for now but would like to build yours once we're in the new house. Thanks again for the great content!
Ive been loving this series so much! Great work T!
Thanks buddy! I kept walking into my shop just to pop up those dogs 😂
Admit it, you really just love seeing your stop block in random places!
Jk
That is not a bench, it is a work of art! The video series of you building it was excellent. Especially the end, where you covered all of the capability it has. I am looking forward to seeing you use it on your next project.
I’m a carpenter / cabinetmaker and I’m impressed with your knowledge of woodworking and your skills that you have. I’m proud of you for letting people know that nobody is perfect and mistakes happen . Nice job and awesome workbench keep up the good work . Doug from Wisconsin union member since 1994
This is possibly the most versatile, most awesome workbench I've seen on so far. Amazing work, thank you!
This was an awesome build series. Glad U R doing better. I like how U R thinking about making things easier with the side and leg dog holes. U said small girl problems. I'm a former power lifter and bodybuilder. I have hurt my back, knees, shoulders, and elbows doing it. I have no desire to be lifting heavy slabs around anymore. I am all about finding better ways to do this now. There are dollies that are scissor lifts that can be used to lift the wood up to the workbench. Engine lifts are a good option and if U wanted to go big. A rail system with a chain fall can help to lift up heavy objects and move them around UR shop. Size and strength does not have to be a limiting factor. There are ways to do the projects we want to do and do them safely. I enjoy UR videos keep them coming. Be safe, keep making, and stay awesome.
Yeah I have to start working smarter with bigger projects like this
I’m totally impressed with the effort and thought process you put into not only making your bench but also the work you did for videoing and editing your podcast. Bravo!!
Regarding the ankle sprain injury; two tips I learnt many, MANY years ago - which stuck with me - is to think of the health and safety of the item you're carrying too - and clearing the path you're about to carry it via. If you don't want to drop or damage the thing you're carrying (OR injure yourself) then check the route is clear before you lift the thing. I always nowadays check my route for trip hazards, stuff I might have to contort to get around, etc. It takes a couple of mins for a long route - but my back needs me to be careful these days. It would've saved your workpiece from the drop, your camera from being in the way, and your ankle from the (freak/rare) injury. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 vision but it's a good data point to reaffirm the tips as valuable.
Oh and by God that workbench is amazing - totally inspiring and super helpful for my upcoming workbench build. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to explain the features/benefits. Seeing your love for your designs and those pop-up dogs etc is so wholesome and energising to experience.
Something to bere in mind lass, you DON'T want to counter sink unless you absolutely have to, it's much better to use a brass dome head screw in a counter bore as the sloped sides between the screw and wood create pressure points that will lead to splitting over time, but if you use a flat or dome headed screw set into a counter bore that issue is almost completely eliminated.
Spoken like a true lass hole.
A lot of thoughts and planning goes into this kind of work, patience is the key and I love to see you smiling. Simply gorgeous bench
What I like about you... It's it don't hide the fuck ups, you show it and that makes your videos more... accessible? Relatable? It makes them seem more real and for those looking for guidance, shows us ways to avoid the issues that arise in moments of panic.
I could have easily left the whoopsies out, but it’s all part of the roller coaster ride of being a creative 😂
@@3x3CustomTamar it's what makes you different, more like the people who come here to learn, it matters.
Absolutely wonderful this Work Shop
I've watched a lot of dream bench builds and this is definitely one of the coolest.
Fantastic work, Tamar. As with many things in life, your unexpected moments (the false start glue up, gravity vs. wood and ankle) can be filed under 'live and learn.' Be proud of your success, all the best!
Thanks so much! Lots of lessons learned!
The bench is amazing Tamar. You did a fantastic job. As always! 👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks so much! 😊
Your human like the rest of us. The beauty of your channel Tamar is that you show them. I would have paniced too and probably done something much more wasteful,so dont sweat it. It will help me as i am in the middle of building my new assembly table only I have made it more challenging by putting a dowel thru the middle of my top.the means making sure i drill a hole through each board in the same place. Your skill level has really grown and it is wonderful to watch you and your channel grow.
So stinking happy for you! One of my favorites! You deserve all the success you’ve had and have earned every bit of it!
Thanks so much! 😊
Amazing work. So impressed with your work. Sorry about the ankle.
Congrats Tamar! What a fun project. It’s amazing how much planning you go through on these.
What an awesome bench you designed and built. There are several features that you included that will go into mine, when I finally have the time to get out there. Life keeps getting in the way.
As a suggestion, When you are in the shop, you might want to look into getting work boots. Having support on the ankle might have made it so your ankle was not hurt as bad. I know that being on your feet all day, you want a comfortable shoe. And there are some very comfortable boots out there. At over $200.00 a pair for Redwings may seem like a lot, but they last me for years. And I have to wear them at work so I need comfort.
Beautiful bench! So sorry about your ankle, I hope it healed well
it is REAL TREAT to watch you working and a real treat when you tell us what and how its done my work shop is no were near as big as yours and less equipment than yours you live in America I in England two different worlds both with the same love WOOD. though I make every thing I need but not on such a grand scale you are a pleasure to watch keep going good carpentry.
I've watched a lot of UA-cam Videos on Woodworking Benches and want to tell you that your bench is on the "Short List" of the BEST BENCHES I've seen, excellent job!
I do not know how I didn't find 3x3 before. Subscribed. I LOVE how you explain things, sometimes live, sometimes narrated. Amazing. I'm drooling about making a bench, and I love several of the ideas here! Thank you!.
So glad you like all the ideas! Lots of sleepless nights went into this ☺️
A woman who can do such work is a wonderful addition if you also work creatively. You are simply top class and a role model for young people who also love precise and creative work! You really deserve the subscription. Keep it up, I'm happy to be there when I find time. You are an inspiration to everyone!
What a gorgeous bench! I made a split-top Roubeaux 2 years ago with a Hovarter leg vise and could not be happier with it. Got a Benchcrafter end vise, and wish I'd gotten a Hovarter there too. Hovarter vises slide to close, partial turn to tighten--genius. What a joy to have a great bench. I laminated yellow pine from a 100+ yr old barn floor for the top, legs were red oak from an old horse wash stanchion, the rest from ash (dead of course) from our lot. I learn something every time I see one of your vids, Tamar. Great work!
I was looking at the hovarter vises as well. They look great
You are incredible, a true inspiration, and the down to earth human side is a real icing on the cake bit of who you are, showing mistakes and how to overcome them is something special many prefer to hide as if they were perfect, in all reality perfection is more how you roll because perfection is learning by mistakes and not hiding them. Doesn't mean you have to show them all but some are important. it makes you much more relatable to the real people who watch and learn from you. It shows mistakes are ok and normal.
Absolutely love watching your work. Built myself a Moxon vise today, based on your video. Thanks
There are literally tens of thousands of wood working videos, what makes yours so interesting is your awesome commentary. And you are a fantastic woodworker. I’m hooked.😊
I really hope you will recover soon. I must have been very painful. One thing lots of woodworkers don't have in their shop is a first aid kit. I happened to need one several times but still don't have any. Plus, when you consider that you work on your own with nobody around... Anyway, your workbench looks very nice. I'm sure you will enjoy every project you will build on it.
Tomar I just want to say you're amazing!! I'm a professional finish carpenter wanting to do more woodworking Awesome Teacher!!
I do love a good bench build, and this is a bloody good bench build! Well done indeed. It only costs some time, some timber, some money...and one ankle!
The "fanny hammer" to seat the top was a cute touch... A labor of love in worth the time... This is a great looking bench... I look forward to years of seeing this in your videos... God Bless...
I appreciate you showing all the real world situations. Helps me out
So.much thought from experience, so much planning and remarkable execution. This whole build is superlative. ❤
Just finished watching your workbench video , as a third generation woodworker I was impressed with the though that went into your bench and the craftsmenship you applied to detail. Beautiful work .
Thanks so much! Appreciate that
What a ton of talent….well built….greetings from down Australia….stay safe!
This lady is most surely a Goddess of wood work she is nothing short of a genius perfection out standing
I love this bench, and I might have to make one for myself. Quick hint when pulling the paper backing off of acrylic sheets (like your dog hole template): once you get the first inch or so off the acrylic, lay a 1" dia. piece of dowel, or a hunk of broom stick on the paper and roll the paper up on the dowel using your palms while holding the dowel against the acrylic. It zooms right off. Works great for larger pieces of acrylic.
That is the most awesome bench! As for the domino mortise...anyone who never made a mistake similar to that, just hasn't done much of anything! Great work, Tamar! And I'm glad that ankle is healed up! Thanks for all the ideas, info, and especially the smiles. God bless.
Haha yup! Happens to the best of us! Thanks!
I admit, I came here just to see how a Lady's "DREAM" Workbench would look like.. LOL ! ... As usual, not disappointed by whatever you announce. Even nicely surprised. I don't know what to admire first.. Your extraordinary Design.. your masterly executed woodwork.. or your natural charisma. Maybe a mix of all that. You got the best features of many top workbenches I saw in UA-cam.. and mixed them herein.. with your artistic and professional touch. That's the way of a great Chef ***** of best renown. Anyway, I love loving your videos (I know when to accelerate to escape publicity.. LOL). Please accept my admiration and hope all happiness to you and your family and anybody you like.
Great job. Enjoyed these videos very much. Hopefully your ankle has healed up nicely!
As a beginner wood worker, your ideas and honesty is greatly appreciated. Love the simplicity yet so convenient. You are the best.
The pop up dogs are worth watching the whole video for. Ingenius!
They are so fun!!
These are the best carpentry videos I have ever seen. Perfectly paced and brilliantly explained. I am going to build a kitchen island like this and now I am very, very scared!
New to your channel and being a UA-cam junkie I’m very impressed with everything I’ve seen on your 3 video bench build. Your skills, teaching style, video editing, and great craftsmanship.
Beautiful bench and there’s literally only one bench that I’ve ever seen that blows yours out of the water. Please don’t take that as a downgrade (my intention is a high compliment) as the one Pedulla Studio built. Honestly it needs to be in a woodworkers museum.
1- That bench is awesome. I love the useful multifunctioness of it. 2- Omg that ankle twist and the aftermath. I bet you were pissed off at yourself for that and in a lot of pain for a few weeks
So upsetting… thanks!
Looks great! Lots of nice features in that bench!
Glad your ankle is on the mend!
Usually when I watch woodworking videos I’m allways looking to steal an idea or a hack. When I watch your videos I just get lost and enjoy the ride. Outstanding craftmanship. But what I enjoy most are your brilliant and cunning solutions. Respect and admiration. Thank you, Tamar. You kick a**
☺️☺️
Hey Tamar, longtime follower here and fellow female woodworker. I've been watching your videos since the beginning of 2018 (how is that 5.5 years ago?) and have always appreciated your content. I like to think we have progressed in similar ways, learning as we go and developing our own sensibilities and design preferences along the way. I, too, use SketchUp to design pieces and learn the most when I make mistakes and then fix them. I so value your candor and excellent teaching style along with your creative thinking and project planning, Keep on making, sister!! You are an inspiration and have made it to the workshop space I aspire to! Big hug of gratitude to you.
Really fantastic bench. I’m about to build a second smaller one for inside my house and this gave me a lot of inspo. I love the pop up dogs as on my current bench the legs obstruct a few of the holes from going all the way through. Definitely going to make some prairie dogs
The branch turned out absolutely amazing Tamar always enjoy watching your videos have learned so much from watching them. So sorry about your ankle that looked very painful and I’m sure it was glad you are doing better it’s always sucks getting hurt you get hurt so fast and it takes so much time to heal. But glad you are feeling better 🙏🏻
Can’t really decide witch I am more jealous about; your access to all those nice tools and dream wood, or your amazing skills of designing and woodworking..!
Either way the combination is unbeatable! Thanks for this greate inspiration!
I just gotta say: you made an absolutely awesome and just simply gorgeous bench! Your shop is turning into a woodworking walhalla, Tamar! I am so happy for you, knowing where you came from just a little while ago! Remember those cold winters in your former shop? Seeing where you are today and what tools you have now just puts a smile to my face!
And those vises - wow! they look so cool!
Haha yes. I remember. I try to forget my frozen toes 😂😂
I love your new bench, I am jealous. You did a great job with the video and explained things well including the small issue that you showed how you corrected it making the top perfect. I’m sorry you were injured but I’m thankful you show d how it happened so the rest of us are reminded to be CAREFUL. Thanks again.
At first: Glad to see, your foot is better and was healing well. And yes, nothing is more important than health. You can buy everything but not health, so for you and all professional and hobby woodworker: Please be careful, you are more important than any of your projects.
Wow, I really enjoyed watching you by building this workbench. Truly I love wood projects with many different functions. I always try to build an "all in one wonder", if you know what I mean. If you have little space, you need good plans for many functions in just one project. Thank you, Tamar for sharing this with us.
P.S. I love your own tools so much, they looks so useful (I already saw other YT woodworker with your tools), so wished I would live in US to buy them.
Glad you enjoyed it! We ship our products worldwide!!
One ofthe most cool looking workbenches🔥🔥🔥. Im a fan already.
My Lord young lady! You are like a tool and die maker of the wood world! Best tools, best materials, and best practices. Not to mention, you are quite an artist! Not to mention, you’re an Artist! I just subscribed and clicked the bell icon. 😊
Absolutely magnificent bench. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you like it! Thanks!
Wish I had that much space in my workshop.
fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series, excellent woodworking example, and so well explained, thank you !, hopefully the ankle has recovered, ( i fell down the steps of st pauls cathedral in london many years ago and im still wary of steps..some 50 years later !!)
Amazing job. So many innovative features
Tamar! I love this bench! Ive been looking for a bench like this and yours is the only one I’ve seen, AND it’s incredible!!!
this bench ... I don't even have words for this bench. You're killing it Tamar
☺️☺️☺️ I’m so proud.
Love the popup benchdogs, genius! Some tips from a long time pro:
The laminate is very easily cut with the tracksaw into manageable pieces, you can even use a tracksaw to cut the laminate flush, just set the depth to one mm and cut backwards to prevent breakout.
If you figure out while glueing you can cut the dowel, domino, cookies, etc. With clippers or a saw, just put a coffee filter or baking sheets to keep the sawdust from going into the glue and reapply if needed.
Damn Tamar!!! That is an absolutely gorgeous bench. Wow! Just absolutely amazing!
Love the tool holder, wood sandwich thingy idea. Terrific. This bench will become a family heirloom piece.🌟
OUCH! To the sprained ankle, I broke my foot that way - sympatico.
I loved Paul Seller’s’ plywood workbench, and April Wilkerson’s workbench - particularly her inventive tool and supply storage holders and bins all around the bench, and some channel I lost track of made a wonderfully massive workbench … but yours is the best, truly magnificent. Thanks!
Also, what an horrendous sprain! Yeowcchhh!
OMG it hurts. Your workbench is awesome.
I have enjoyed watching you grow as a maker/carpenter and I have yet to see a video you made, a project you've worked on, that didn't inspire me to create. Thank you for sharing your journey, really your skill and craftsmanship is truly inspiring.
I agree with everyone who has already said, that workbench is so well thought out a beautifully executed. Amazing work, Tamar and brilliantly explained. Pleasure to watch x
Mad respect for adding the slomo. You’re a very skilled woodworker 👌🏽
The finished bench looks amazing and is very well made too. It’s clear that you put a lot of thought into it and that over time it will help make your wood working tasks that much smoother.
As a homeowner/DIY/hobbyist I enjoy both hand-tool AND power tool work. I love the combination of a traditional hardwood top for hand-tools plus an MFT style for a track saw and for assembly clamps/jigs/fixtures.
I will take the design of your top and see if I can put it on top of a Moravian style knock-down frame assembly.
That is a great bench! Genius! Thanks for sharing your injury video. It could've been so much worse. It makes me think i need to give some thought to those situations and how to get help when an injury occurs.
Blown away at how beautiful this bench turned out. Amazing work.
Thanks so much!
Been looking at a lot of bench prospects I like yours nice balance between aesthetics and function thanks
Sorry about your ankle it’s always funny how we gain wisdom
The workbench turned out beautiful. I love the way you thought about every little thing. It's one of the most versatile workbenches I have seen. I also think it's great you show your mistakes so we as viewers don't feel so dumb. Can't wait for your next project. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Soooo functional, I love it.
Post script: I love the way Tamar says "drawers".
Great work bench and video! You should have your own TV show, it would be great to watch!
Thanks! Haha. I like working on my own schedule…
The bench is impressive. Nice job!! I did something similar to my ankle. I was carrying a 4x4 pressure treated post down the steps of my basement and still had my sunglasses on. I misjudged the last step and rolled my ankle just like you did. It took a few months to heal. The post was no where near the weight of your bench top but was enough for me to not be able to recover from misjudging the last step. We try to be safe working in our shops but forget that moving materials can be almost as dangerous as our power tools.
I am still thinking about my-finally!-left-handed bench, and trying to figure out how to combine many useful track saw accessories, which require a certain spacing and hole size, with bench accessories, which are in the different hole universe of your tempting template. Still thinking … but so looking forward not to have a front vise slam into my hip when trying to plane, and maybe have a bench as nice as yours. Lots of valuable ideas here.
I'm all ears.
Oh Tamar this is the most beautiful functional workbench. I love every function and the quality is superb. That vice is something super special. Fabulously built too. Thank you for sharing this beauty.🙏💕🇦🇺
What an AWESOME bench.....it definitely is a dream bench!!! It's obvious you put a ton of thought into it which really shows with the versatility this bench provides. I love the contrasting walnut/maple and the pop up dogs! Never would have thought of that. I'm so sorry you suffered such a bad sprain building this but great to see you're on the mend now. I'm heading out to my shop now with the measurements to see if I have room for this gorgeous bench!
Beautiful and awesome bench!!
I'm building a small workbench and just found your video with mastery, lots of tips and knowledge. You are a trully inspiration for women like me that loves woodworking. Thank you! 💪🫀🪵
I love my Laguna tools. Spent summer rebuilding and milling rough cut lumber to rebuild and properly insulate my shop. Being in Canada sucks. Laguna is almost imposable to get in this country. $700 just for shipping my jointer. I really enjoy your builds and honesty. Thank you.
That’s a very cool bench Tamar. Nicely done
Beatiful Workbench
I like that you left in the domino error. The honesty of ‘I made a mistake and my solution was definitely not the right one’. We have all been there!
What a beauty: well thought out and so multifunctional. A priceless treasure.
Love the “prairie dog” name for pop-ups. Clever. 🙂
Haha those were my favorite part. So fun to build this for myself
Thats a veritas product name...
