The first NES game I ever had - I actually got it before I received the game system. I was about 5 years old and I remember being distraught because I didn't have a Nintendo and wouldn't be able to play it. Then, I was given a NES about 5 minutes later. I remember feeling weird about it because I hadn't heard of it and it looked too "kiddy" (I was 5, I know!). This brings back a lot of memories.
I'm pretty sure this game brainwashed thousands of kids that played it in the 90's. Some of these songs have literally been stuck in my head for the past 20 years, for no reason at I'll find myself humming one now and again. Likely due to the associations my young brain made when playing these very challenging levels over and over and over until I could beat it. If this game had been pumping a different language into my ears instead of music I could've probably been fluent by the time I finished the game. Classic!
Hahah! This is the very reason I'm here right now! I was humming Mushroom Forest for no reason and sat down at the computer to find it on youtube just to hear it again ^^
I haven't touched nor seen a copy of this game in almost 20 years. I came searching for the music today though. So damn good. Some of these songs just put the biggest god damn smile on my face.
ilalla I still have my copy, box/instructions/sleeve... it's one of my few real treasures from my childhood. Ahh the memories. IMHO the hardest part of the game was flying to the sky as that darn bee, UHG I hated that part and still do.
You're 100% right. The music for this game is just so damned good. I mean, there's not much of it, only 20 tracks in the game, and the loops are pretty short on all of them, but there's just something about this game's music that's incredible.
This music is so amazing. As awesome as graphics and music are in gaming today, there was just something so amazing about the simplicity of the early NES experience. It also really stimulated the imagination. I love this so much!
What a great comment, I remember things like watching every detail on the art covers so I could like in a way imagine more concept art with the stuff I saw in the screen, made me feel so much more connected
I literally just beat this game a few hours ago, for the first time, on my NES. This wasn't a game I had when I was a kid, but man it's definitely nostalgic nonetheless. This one got me through some tough times recently.
Just in case some people didn't know Little Nemo Dream master was based off of the animated film that came out in 1989, which was based off of the early 1900's comic and plays. All I can say is if any of you haven't seen the film you're missing out on a classic, in best words to explain how great this movie is.. it's like classic Disney and Hayao Miyazaki made an amazing love child, it has thre animation style of Miyazaki, and the way the story and music is it feels like one of those epic disney movies from the 80s - early 90s.
+Mega Sega Fan Funny you should mention Miyazaki, as he did work on an early version of the film at one point of the 80s, and eventually quit, calling it the worst professional experience of his life. This was a very troubled film, and it's a miracle it even got made. That being said, I think the movie is beautiful, but the script kind of stinks. Nemo in the movie is one of the most boring protagonists I've come across in an animated film, and usually does nothing but say "yippee" or "oh no..." over and over again. (Seriously, they could make a drinking game out of how many times he says those phrases during the film.) As a huge fan of the Nemo comic, they got the look right, but the script should have been so much better. Still love this game, though, and I'm glad Capcom took a chance and brought it over here even though the movie had not been released in the U.S. at the time the game came over here.
+Mega Sega Fan Fun fact, the movie's script is written by Americans, and the art and animation is done by Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS). Earlier on, Studio Ghibli made a 4-minute Nemo short, but with a more anime-inspired style. It wasn't made into a full movie.
+Daytime Sky I feel that more cartoons should be made this way nowadays- the script, story, character designs made by us, but have the Japanese do the overseas animation to it. Unfortunately, Japan thinks our cartoons are too idiotic and stupid nowadays to have any overseas animation done to them.
Jeremy M I'm sure Japanese companies would be happy to animate US cartoons. But Koreans cost less, and can mimic anime style, so they animate The Legend of Korra and things like that.
+GeonXP89 - I was about to post something like this! I couldn't ever get the monkey up the tree past the enemies on level two!! 😆 Ah, the memories. Still one of my favorites from childhood.
In fact the 90´s were the best years of Capcom and other Japanese companies as Konami; no matter the franchise or how much crappie was, both companies did awesome games bases in many series (Konami with the TMNT and Capcom with many Disney franchises and others). Hell, what happened to both companies!? Once they ruled, now sucks ass!
Not quite. The Emperor Penguin was the FIRST boss. First of three. The Flying Manta Ray was number two, then the Nightmare King. Man, Nemo's House and Topsy Turvey used to drive me nuts. I was always so happy when I made it to Nightmare Land. And then the real challenge began.
I remember having my mom buy me this game when I was probably about 7 or 8 years old. This is my favorite NES game music ever with #2 and #3 being Maniac Mansion and Mega Man 2, respectively.
I used to have this game, I never finished it cuz I was too young and after I guess somebody stole it from me cuz I never saw it again, It was one of my favorite games ever I wonder if I would feel like a child again if get it and play it right now...
One of the rare occasions where a game is made based on a movie and it turns out to be very good. Musically, visually, and of course the gameplay was really neat. Before we had Kirby donning the abilities of his enemies we had Little Nemo /wearing/ enemies. I liked the movie well enough, but the game will always have a place in my heart, it was so unique and fun when I was a kid. Definitely one of Capcom's best NES games.
man, back then you could actually FEEL the atmosphere in these old games. house of toys had some wind blowing through the trees out the windows, i used to think i could feel the cool air.
Still have this game, don't remember where I picked it up. Never beat it, it was SO hard. I should get back to it. :D The reverb sounds wonderful here!
I got this game when it was new, I'm not sure if I had seen the movie yet but I did see the movie around the same time. It's one of my favorite games and flicks :)
Yeah I remember seeing this game on a show called game pro which use to come on early in the very early nineties so I went out and bought it and loved it and i still own my copy of it.
Bought this when it came out in 1990, and still feel it's one of Capcom's underrated classics. If only this game had a better license, like maybe if it were one of the Disney games Capcom was doing at the time, it would be better known today. Still, I do remember searching out the old Little Nemo comic strips after playing this game, and discovering the artwork of its creator, Winsor McCay - whose art I still cherish today.
Once you make it to the final level of this game they really crank it up a notch, better graphics, music and game play. The first 7 levels are good too.
I remember this game from my younger days I got it when I was in preschool and it frustrated the crap out of me... but the soundtrack was always awesome. Hell they remade a boy and his blob on the Wii how about a Little Nemo remake.. I would be game.
Anyone else hear the morning star charging up while the boss music was playing? This is one of my all time favorites. When I was a kid I would beat this game everyday during the summer.
But totally worth it for the ending, which is loads better than most games had back then. I remember as a kid, I actually cried when I beat this game because it was such an amazing experience (and still is) and I didn't want it to end. Few games have ever had that effect on me, but Nemo was the first and best of those few.
One of my favourite VGM !! Junko Tamiya's music touch is really diffrent comparing Capcom Nes games music (like SF2010). Thanks very much for add on! If you want to know more about here, please come in this podcast: soundcloud.com/yacinesynapsas/jv-synapseries-n16-tamiya-eng-version?in=yacinesynapsas/sets/jeu-video-et-synapseries
When video game music chokes you up and makes you want to start bawling your eyes out that really says something (talking about the 2nd to last song here) Ive never felt that before in any game i ever played. Ever.
this is just fantastic! the added mixing and effects are perfect. I wish the songs looped one more time, though. Flower Garden gets my vote as best track
This game reminds me when we only just had a NES at home. My cousin gave his NES to me in 96 or 97, before my parents bought us a PS1 in December 99 while people had Dreamcast or wanted to have a PS2 next year. But I regret nothing, I had a nice childhood anyway and I still own my NES nowadays :)
Nightmare King Battle is the type of theme song that makes you want to avoid the cherries for as long as possible to continue listening. The danger was not in the enemy's force but the enemy's ability to charm you into allowing it theoretically infinite amounts of time to end you. However that also worked against the enemy because you were laser focused on successfully perpetuating the theme song to further indulge in its greatness.
This soundtrack has lived rent free in my head more than the actual game. I actually played this before Adventures in Slumberland came out. The movie disappointed since it didnt have this incredible music

Why was this game so insanely hard. :( My cat was proudly named from the protagonist.
I es a really closed to beat it when I was 11 ,now I'm 24 and I'm not even able to past the first 2 levels
Matt Christman hahaha it was! I never got past the first level

@8-Bit Assault yessssss💪😁
This game was extremely hard. We beat it one time and could never repeat it.
The first NES game I ever had - I actually got it before I received the game system. I was about 5 years old and I remember being distraught because I didn't have a Nintendo and wouldn't be able to play it. Then, I was given a NES about 5 minutes later.

Its flashing me ultra hard 😍🥰
I love these tunes and this game!!

I’m that way with Guerrilla War’s OST considering how that game was generous enough to give you unlimited continues, hence why it got played so much.
Capcom could do no wrong back then. Even the Little Mermaid game was incredible
Rich Knight that's a hidden gem I need to play.

I remember playing this when I was a kid as a bootleg called "Pokémon Silver" where Nemo's sprite got replaced by a shiny Sandshrew
People drool over Mega Man 2's Wily Fortress I all day, but what about Nightmare Land, huh? Huh!?
@Will Mistretta They probably never got past the falling spiked roof in the Toy House and still have nightmares about trains
This, I believe, is one of those OST's that benefits tremendously from the reverb as a result of the stereo, great work =)
One of the best NES soundtracks ever. :)

The soundtrack is very similar to that of the likes of Gun.Smoke, Sweet Home, Street Fighter 2010, and Bionic Commando.
Daniel Hunter Actually, I was gonna say because they all have the same composer.
Seems like each composer for Capcom had a certain style.
Seriously. Once you get to Nightmare Land, the soundtrack goes full Street Fighter 2010.
