• Journey to Silius (NES...
The 8BtStereo revamp continues strong with one of the best platformers and soundtracks ever done by the Sunsoft team, its Journey to Silius! Developed under the dummy corp name of "Tokai Engineering" (so essentially still was developed by Sunsoft), was a game that remained fairly obscure in the NES lifeline, until finally being noticed and praised for its many achievements! Stellar graphics, tight and fun gameplay, and of course, the music. A soundtrack that is synonymous with many Sunsoft releases that makes use of the infamous "Sunsoft Bass" as implemented by Naohisa Morota (and assistance from Hara)! Also for the longest time Manabu Sakota was simply under the alias "Mabochan" until recently discovered the full name, and it is assumed Sakota contributed compositions alongside Kodaka for this OST, always fun learning more about a great soundtrack and the legacy of Sunsoft! :)
Trivia: Journey to Silius was originally meant to be a licensed Terminator game like Sunsoft Batman but negations for the Terminator license broke down and Sunsoft released the game anyway with minor cosmetic changes.
Didn’t you already do the “Journey To Silius” OST?
@@Theranthrope Hence why the evil Terrorists are still using killer robots. This is definitely supposed to be about Kyle Reese's war against Skynet in the future of... 2029? Uhoh
@@Theranthrope True! Was gonna include that in the pin comment but so many people are aware of that fact usually when looking up this game, so I kept it exclusive to the music like the Sunsoft Bass (and general samples they used) being implemented by Naohisa Morota and the before unknown alias to "Mabochan" :)
I like the data. Now I know who is really Mabochan!!
STILL one of the best NES soundtracks!
YOU are the best, Johnny.
maybe cover this? it's just insane how good it is
Definitely... just sounds like the NES on music roids.
Ahh yes, The Termin- I mean, Journey to Silius.
@Retro sack I genuinely wish that I could. xD
this SHOULDVE been the terminator game we got instead of the godawful mindscape/radical entertainment one
I honestly think this game is better than Terminator. The fact that it has been "opaqued" makes it more special and more mysterious.
18:17 All rise for one of the greatest pieces of music. Ever.
cheers
Best terminator game ever.
I have a rule. My phone ringtones are all 8-16 bit tracks from my youth, and I switch them every so often. In heavy rotation is selections from FF, FFIV, FFVI, Crystalis, the Castlevanias, Phantasy Star 4, Blaster Master.
I had forgotten about Journey to Silius until I stumbled across this
Def adding a few of these songs. This hands down is some of the best music ever made on the NES.
This game, and channel are both underappreciated
It's niche but deeply appreciated.
Amen
I was so happy when they added it to the Switch NES catalog for Nintendo online.
Silius is considered one of the best sounding nes games so I don't know how it is underapprecited.
Trust me, I was gaming when Silius was realesed, and even back then people noticed the soundtrack, both for it's melodies and it's sound.
@@GerginationI glad a community exits for even niche people such as myself.
And knowing that Journey To Silius was supposed to be a Terminator game, I have no doubt that if the project were continued, it would be much more acclaimed today! Incidentally great soundtrack
Source?
@@venomtang in the games graphic files, there's unused graphics that say the terminator
@@incognitiosaystransrights source?
@@venomtang start the game up and look at the CHR. It says the terminator
terminator 1 soundtrack had good synth IMO
Every single track in this is pure gold. These composers tapped into some real magic when writing this.
It's staggering how good it is.
Underground Concourse is still one of my favorite NES melodies💙
Before things like UA-cam existed, I used to get to that stage and just leave it idle. Lol
Rare for an NES song to have three verses.
@@backdoorwolf666 definitely. I think it was a sunsoft thing. I’d have to listen to blaster master again but I’m pretty sure they were lengthy tracks.
"Underground Concourse" is what made me look up and actually play this amazing gem of a game. Smooth, to the point gameplay, decent minimal story, killer ost, yup the footrprint of our beloved sunsoft.
4 minute long song without looping!
It conveys the sheer will power of our hero to avenge his father and overturn a corrupted leader willing to slow the progress of man for profit.
Cheesy but we love that power struggle, fighting to uncover a truth or overturn injustice.
A very power song, maybe its overrated to some but i always find myself listening to this to give myself some hope for the future, granted, if you too, fight for that future.
Not at all overrated, Underground Concourse is a genuinely brilliant song.
@@RichardCraigIt’s underrated, the composers and Sunsoft made a bold statement by dropping a massive four minute song on a NES soundtrack, when the standard was barely over a minute for others on the platform.
They took their gloves off and art seriously.
The bass on this one is soooooo good
I never played this game when was a child with 8-bit console, but i fell in love this OST from 1st notes.
The same as OST of "20xx".
Same here, first heard of it in a nes music compilation
This is the best OST on the NES.
Mega Man 2 and Battletoads would like a word
Castlevania 3: am I a joke to you
Final Fantasy VII: I have the best boss battle theme
Journey to Silius: Hold my beer 9:00
In general, SunSoft made memorable music for their NES games and other console games from Batman to even Uncle Festers Quest, lets face It, SunSoft wasn't playing around. Goodtime from years past!!!
Ahh, I loved this game. The sound processor for the NES was amazing.
Sunsoft really knew how to make it sing
Niko, thank you so much for this ost. The country I live is passing some harsh and horrible times and listening to Journey to Silius help me cope with everything that’s going on. Thank you🇨🇴
Happy it helps you out in these times, hope for better times for you and your country, much love dude
Probably one of the best NES soundtracks. I love it.
Great game and one of the best NES OST’s... you still can see and hear the overt Terminator references throughout. Thanks swole Niko! 😜
My favorite nes soundtrack!!!!
this soundtrack made my NES grow chest hair.
Love the remastered stereo that you did for this! It sounds a lot fuller and cleaner! I'll be checking out more of your remastered soundtrack videos, man! Stay safe!
Thank you! We've got a long way to go with these uploads, so strap in! And right back at ya! :)
Man, it's been like what a decade? Me sometimes listening your stereo mixes, so can i say like they made part of my childhood, and still I'm enjoying, i'ts sound real good a lot of nes music, have a good day and stay safe
Love the new design, very professional
With 9 years since the original first iteration of the design, and 5 years with the slightly upgraded logo and background, this is definitely way more professional. Though, slightly amateur still (aside from the professionally done icon of me, lol), but that's what I like about it, its what you uniquely get from me, and it feels genuine whilst looking better! :D
@@Nikos8BitStereo You’ve come a long way since the WiiGuy days my friend. Your video design (with gameplay which does not go unnoticed) is the most sophisticated I’ve seen yet for a VGM upload. Nothing amateur about it. The only thing I could suggest is featuring the title of the current track in sync with the audio.
Hot damn those DPCM drums, who says the NES can't do meaty drumlines?
Bass is sampled instead of „regular“ Famicom/NES triangle baselines. Drums this time are regular oscillator and noise channels.
I gotta say, this is a hell of a lot better than the music in the actual Terminator nes game
I just managed to beat the game today.
Great soundtrack, especially stage 4.
Congrats! Even after 30 odd years I still cant. Maybe I should try again.
this & gimmick are STILL some of the best video game soundtracks ever made.
Epic soundtrack
Thanks, this one of the best!
I never played this game as a kid but the soundtrack is amazing.
Listening to this at least once a day. Cheers.
I'd honestly never heard this soundtrack before, at least not that I can remember. This slaps.
I just love the Boss battle theme. It reminds me of Holy Diver & TMNT.
And Stage 2's theme (Underground Concourse) always gets me in the nostalgia feels HARD!!
Amazing, awesome, eternal!
This game probably had the most Sunsoft tracks of all the NES and are pretty much some of the best
Great OST. I love the subtle stereo treatment on this, as well as all your uploads. Thank you and keep 'em coming!
Seriously, those three uploads are some of my favourites in the console! You couldn't get it more right!..
Well, you can. Let's see if I didn't jinx it
glad to see you active bro, your mixes are simply awesome
what a wonder 😃❤️✨
Good to see my favourite NES ost channel is alive :)
Thank you so much for your work, I play guitar and I use your channel all the time to learn songs, again much appreciated!!
4:00 - In an alternate universe: "The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight..."
In that universe, it was the best licensed video game ever produced and changed the paradigm for what they could be.
4:56 Just in case you didn't know this was supposed to be a terminator game, now you know.
It´s nice music and YOUR NEW IMAGE WITH THE KUNKO-KUN STYLE.
One of the BEST Soundtracks ever made!!!
J'adore ta manière de mettre en ligne des OST => Playlist/TimeCode/Stream-run du jeu etc. Tellement agréable & collector!!! Bravo & merci pour ton taf/partage^^
Nice format => ""Animation""/Jacket/TimeCode/Playlist etc. So pleasant & collector!!! well done & thanks for your job/share^^ Peace 0/
Glad to see that this game's music is favourite of many till now.
Niko really knows how to bring out the best of the best out of the awesome 8bit NES!!!!!!
Sunsoft killed it with NES soundtracks!
And to think, if this game was The Terminator, we'd be talking about 2 of the greatest OST's in VGM history!! (The Sega CD's OST being VERY good as well.)
Futuristic
23:42 🎵🎵Yooooo, soy rebelde porque el mundo me hizo así...🎵🎵
Oh shoot! Another mix? Wow!
I am convinced that if this game had retained the Terminator license, we would have heard remixes of some of these themes in future Terminator films. Which would have almost made the movies after #2 justifiable.
I think the only nes game i never played, never is too late, but thanks to let me know, the music is amazing!
This game was SO HARD that I never saw any of the other levels past level one until I became an adult and found a playthrough on UA-cam.
When me and my sister were kids, we saw level 4 ONCE. And we played the hell out of this game. I got my vengeance at age 25 though...took me over 50 tries 🤣
@@joenitrate at least you beat it. I STILL haven't haha
@Occasional Commenter I made it as far as whatever level came when you hit the warp in the Turbo Tunnel. It was pretty much over after that 🤣
@Occasional Commenter yea that level where you ride the speeder bikes.
@Occasional Commenter 🤣🤣🤣omg I totally thought we were talking about Battletoads. My bad, yo 😬😬😬
That first song sounds like a mix of OG Megaman and X.
I listened to the entire song before i actually play TBH.
MUITO BOM!!!!!!
I read Nobuyuki Hara died at 25 from a disease.
Absolutely tragic, and so freaking young, and didn't even get to see his praises sung on the work he did in the internet age. That man was an absolute legend, rest well you magician of programming.
Is there anyway to get the separate channels / tracks of Stage 2 and others? Like Just have the bass, lead, etc.
I still smile at the similarities between this, festers quest and of course blaster master.
And stage 2 is just epic. I think Sunsoft was one of the few companies that had long tracks.
Man..stage 2 underground is one of the best tracks on the NES...
I originally thought Tim Follin composed this soundtrack
18:17 "Stage 3: Terrorist Headquarters" is the lost classic epic video game theme that the world missed out on...
I used to shred this game with my brother, one of the only things we ever did together.
The true Terninator game on the NES, not the shameful LJN abominations.
from the same guy who brought us Batman NES and Genesis, Blaster Master, and, later on, Albert Odyssey Sword of Eldean.
i've always been a huge fan of this channel ever since i found it. i am not sure what tools you used to create either the old mixes or the newer ones. however, i just wanted to say, there will never be soundtracks like these ever again (and to an extent the SNES). there is a reason they all sound so distinctive. the sounds produced by the original hardware etched its way into human souls and created a genre we refer to now as "8 bit."
if you are trying to purify that sound with some new hardware or software, i'm not sure i can agree about it.
18:17 GOAT
If you like this soundtrack, I also suggest the soundtrack to "Wings of Death". Both games were released in 1990. But "Wings of Death" was released on home computers, originally the Atari ST and then ported to the Commodore Amiga. Music composed by Jochen Hippel. Here's a link to the original Atari ST version ua-cam.com/video/-UJNY25jbHw/v-deo.html
And here are two links to the Amiga version of the soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/BcH10hcRlxo/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/zipk0egspcY/v-deo.html
I don't like the title theme quite as much, but beginning at the stage themes, it picks up and I get Journey to Silius vibes.
Wer'e on a Journey to Silius!
They didn't have to go _this_ hard on the title screen out of all things.
It sounds good to me.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
В своё время, после проката игры raf world, пошёл и купил эту игру. А игра должна была называться terminator.
man the soundtrack is just so amazing.. but sometimes i wish this could have been Star Tropics 3 has almost the same feeling.
Épico
An incredible soundtrack. Why the reupload though?
@Oh Ok oh ok
RAAAAFFFFF WORRRRLDDDD))))
What is the credits music in this game?
Anyone who has tried to put in the stage select code at the title screen knows that song all too well.
Would like to hear Mastodon cover Game Stage Boss Battle
I have to say, I much prefer your original mix. I've listened to both the new and old a fair amount and while I prefer the more clear and better sounding instruments in this mix, the old mix has WAY better stereo separation. I also like the reverb in the old mix, but I think I would dial it down because that seemed to be a big reason it sounds less clean. On my main monitors in my studio you actually get quite a nice sound stage on the old mix. In this one all the instruments are put near the middle. I think if you can achieve a mixture of both, using the clearer sounding instruments in this mix but achieve the stereo separation in the old one, you will have an amazing mix!
Не слышал о такой. Never heard 'bout this one.
9:00 ❤️🔥
man I for sure someone copied your format to a T since this is the first instance I have seen this new avatar XD
Where's the DL link for the older tracks?
Mm, I vastly prefer your original rendition of this OST, it just sounds so BEEFY.
Probably due to the way things were separated and how the instruments of the sound channels came together, plus the general way the echo/reverb was, I get it sounding more "full" or beefy in that case. The original upload will always be there, but personally satisfied how these are :)
Neato, but it would've been more epic to have the Boss theme and etc. before the Ending theme.
can sunsoft come back
😀
This is best experienced on 5.1 suround sound!!!!!!! I can't spell souround.
@LNR Axzon Sir Ound
THE LOST TERMINATOR GAME INSTEAD WE GOT THAT SHIT..PUKE GREEN GRAPHX AND HORRIBLE CONTROLS AND MUSIC. ..... FOR ME THIS IS THE FIRST TERMINATOR GAME ON NES AND ITS A MASTERPIECE.... ITS SUNSOFT SO OBVIOUSLY THE MUSIC IS KICKASS....WHO THE FK DISLIKE THIS? SEND THAT PERSON TO SOME ANOTHER PLANET.
B-)
Why dose this game not have a sequel
It doesn't bc it tanked really, losing the Terminator license meant it couldn't ride the film's wave of promotion n popularity. Therefore it was left in obscurity without a campaign of advertising n way to promote it really. I was lucky enough to have played it a few times as a young child with my cousins and bc I have a good memory I remembered the game n with a little time searching n doing some research I found it. The game I remembered, but the title eluded me. I have it on my Retro Freak n Wii consoles, it is pretty hard too.
@@ignacioleon4560 oh that still sucks tho
@@I-L0ve-sally-197 I'm with you there, would of liked to have seen further releases on later console generations. At least one for the SNES n maybe one for the og Game Boy.
If youre asking me, the new version is not bad but i miss the chrisp sounding highs of the old version.
Не понял, а зачем опять одно и тоже создавать?
он перезалил в лучшем кач-ве.
not to be a negative nancy but i actually way prefer the reverb & crispness of the old upload
I disagree and prefer this version, feeling there was a bit too much reverb in the old version detracting from the fine details. This hits the sweet spot of the more subtle reverb level enhancing the depth of soundstage without it being too obvious. However the listening experience is ultimately subjective so this is just my opinion.
