And the word orange/naranja is also from India, probably from the north

As per records, St. Francis CSI Church, the first Portuguese church in India kerala, was founded by Pedro Alvarez De Cabral in 1503. On reconstructing, its facade has acquired the Persian style. Most of the churches constructed in Kochi emulated this style. This church was originally constructed in wood, inside the fort, in the name of St. Bartholomew. It was renovated in 1516 and renamed after St. Antony. The Dutch used this church for other things till 1795. When the British conquered Kochi, it was given to the CSI. The mortal remains of Vasco-da -Gama was buried here in 1525. It was taken to Lisbon after 14 years. This church has become a protected monument since 1923.
Inside the church, there is only a cross and no other idol. The pulpit has been conserved. A very old fan made of cloth has also been conserved and is still functional. The wooden ceiling and floor tiles are also very old. The tomb stones of the Portuguese could be seen on the northern wall and that of the Dutch on the southern wall. St. Francis church is one of the most remarkable monuments left in Kochi of the colonial regime.
Many remains of portuguese were here in kerala , some got destroyed by other colonial powers especially by dutch and english , some by natural calamities and the rest survived till now .

Tamil : sakku , jannal ,alamaari ,meshai, elam, mestiri , tekku, manga(maambalam)

A lot of those things actually have words in pure malayalam, and some of them are used in daily life as well. Like Onion is Ulli in pure malayalam, Naranga is actually lemon, Orange is called orange itself in malayalam but the original malayalam word is Kichili which is kinda archaic. The pure malayalam word for plate is thattam which is also rarely used. The commonly used word for kitchen in malayalam is Adukkala. And jaca, teak, and manga are words that went from Malayalam to Portuguese while the others went the reverse way.
The correct Malayalam for orange is Madhura Naaranga
@@aleenaprasannan2146
Madhura Naranga is not Malayalam but Sanskrit. The Malayalam word for Madhuram is Inippu - the opposite of Kayppu.
@@j000p Malayalam is a mix of Tamil and sanskrit, so ofcourse there will be words the same as sanskrit. Madhuram is a word that's actually used widely in malayalam with no confusion or vagueness to it's meaning, however inippu is used rarely if at all and it's almost always used to describe an uncommon flavour and hardly ever to mention sweetness.
So yeah, just because the origin of the word madhuram is the same in the parent language of Malayalam, that doesn't make it 'not malayalam'
@@aleenaprasannan2146 wtf. Malayalam is not mix of Tamil and Sanskrit. Malayalam is basically Old Tamil(proto Dravidian )with loan words from many languages including Sanskrit
@@roshindaniel4806 nope...The older version of Malayalam is Manipravalam and it literally means 'diamonds and corals' signifying sanskrit and local western version of Tamil. That local tamil (some words in edakkal caves suggest that this older western parent language might even be a different language unrelated to Tamil as those didn't have any tamil connection) and eastern Tamil and older version of Kannada and Telugu all had a common origin proto- Dravidian language.
It's like proto- Dravidian is the grandfather language, from which four contemporaneous older parent version of Southern languages were derived and hence all have similarities. Then these older versions mixed with sanskrit and became current version.
So proto- Dravidian was about two language generation away. Malayalam and Tamil are thus like cousins connected through a common grandfather, and not siblings connected through a common parent.
It's good to have so much similarity☺️👍

Btw, thanks for reacting to this video. Without a Portuguese perspective from your side., i would have believed everything in the video.
A Fun fact :
In Arabic, Orange is Burtugal . Which comes from the word Portugal, from where it was imported to Arabian Peninsula.
Niceeee!
Although, Portuguese from Portugal is a little bit different from Brazilian Portuguese, there are different words
It's like American English vs British English
Mango/manga is a solidly south Indian word. The tree is called a "maav", and any kind of fruit is called a "ka". Combining the two, the ka of the maav becomes manka or manga. Similarly a coconut is a thenga. Jackfruit/Jaca/chakka is another south Indian fruit name ending in "ka".
@@ProducerReactsYes, Mango with milk is listed as contradictory food in India too. But these are long lost theories as you said just considered as superstition
@@ProducerReacts Am Goan and my language Konkani has Portuguese influence. Goa was a Portuguese colony anyways, just like Brazil.

Vasco de Gama (Portuguese btw) in the search of India first landed in Calicut, Kerala where they established the first maritime route to India from Europe was established.... We traded a lot of spices and textiles with the Portuguese from the 1500s... And that allowed a lot of cultural exchanges...
And later Spain sent Christopher Columbus in search of India to compete with the Portuguese but instead landed in the Americas and the rest is history....
Spain sent Columbus before Vasco da Gama came to calicut

Actually Portugal ruled Kerala once, definitely you can see some more similarities. Of course
Portuguese not ruled. They tried and got defeated 😂
These are mostly loan words from Portugal to Malayalam. Some of these words are still used with the original dialect in certain parts of coastal Kerala. The reason why some Words are different in present day Portuguese language could be because it has evolved and is now using loan words from English or other Germanic languages. Words like Shorts and Bermuda for example, while in Kerala, they are still using the old words like Kalasrai which is infact used for large trousers. Malayalam has several loan words from the Dutch language as well.
Love from kerala malayali new subcriber❤️
It was in kerala that Vasco da Gama and his people landed in 1498.So they introduced many things to India especially to kerala. And Malayalam is actually a language that derived from tamil and sanskrit and have some words similar to Portuguese language.😁
Malayalam from Tamil and Sanskrit ? That's just bullshit propagated by the Tamil Nationalists. Please read about the 19th century Pacha Malayalam movement which produced a number of literary works called Venmani literature that used only pure Malayalam words. There is even a pacha malayalam dictionary by sumangala that is available in the market. In fact, as per linguistic science, Malayalam is actually older than Tamil.
@@SudeepNairmaddy
Man, Kumari kandam and all are just myth. And it was discarded as unscientific a long ago. I don't know if you are a fool or not, but you are definitely ignorant about your own language's history. There is ample proof that Malayalam evolved from one of the dialects of Proto Tamil-Malayalam before Tamil evolved out of another dialect of the same. Find the etymology of the word Tamil and you will know why the misconception about tamil being the oldest exist. The sanskrit term Dravida which means peninsula corrupted to the term Tamil in the dialects of Proto Tamil-Malayalam through Pali language.. Dravida (Sanskrit) > Damila (Pali) > Tamil (Proto Tamil-Malayalam). Because the Dravidian language family didn't have D sound, it used T. The D letter in Malayalam was incorporated after the middle ages to use Sanskrit words. When the dialects of Proto Tamil-Malayalam evolved, and Kerala people realized that they were speaking a distinct language, they named it Malayalam. Meanwhile the people of TN region never renamed their newly evolved language and to this day, continue calling it Tamil leading to many misconceptions and propagandas. Much of the vocabulary and many grammatical features of Malayalam are older than even Old Tamil. Until the British came, the native Malayalam linguists believed that Malayalam originated from Sanskrit. Such was the pathetic situation here. I would also like to add that contrary to the popular belief, although they were/are known as Tamils, the Cheras actually spoke Malayalam and emerged from the Kuttanad (the village of 'kuttuvan' tribe as in Chenkuttuvan) region of alappuzha which is mentioned in the sangam literature itself. Also, FYI, the sanskrit language is just around 3500 years old and emerged centuries after the IVC collapsed. Sanskrit words were incorporated into pure Malayalam only after the 8th century. We have got malayalam inscriptions from 2nd century BC.
@Jerin Paul hey good to see a pacha malayalam supporter☺👍
@@j000p do you have any citations for this
@@j000p The Venmani School produced literature which had plenty of Sanskrit in it. There is no "pure" ancient Malayalam literature, 19th century clowning aside.
You are denying that we ever had ancient literature (Sangham era) if you deny the shared history of Malayalam and Tamil.
Proto-Malayalam was essentially the western dialect of Tamil. Sangham literature made no distinction between western and eastern Tamil dialects. Until the invasion of Sanskrit changed it beyond recognition.
Malayalam is the most elite language 👑 and their land is god's own country.
