I'm kind of surprised they didn't mention the Jane Mansfield accident that ultimately led to the implementation of the ICC bar or "Mansfield Bar" on any trailer manufactured after 1967.

I'm retired after 45yrs and approximately 4.5 million miles, hard to calculate accurately when you two log books.The first truck I drove was a 64 B model Mack with a 1693 cat transplantef and a 5x4 tyranny. The owner put a 60" sleeper on in it and we ran to the west coast from WI hauling cheese out and produce back. That blasted thing could fly, it would beat you to death.. I remember it only getting two miles to gallon. Didn't worry too much about that because fuel was only 20 cents a gallon. I miss those times.
Im a retired Driver. 34yrs 4million miles. These were the trucks I learned to drive on. I have driven the old CO 40 series International truck. R-Model Macks. I have 1974 GMC Astro 95 COE, 6V Silver 92 Detroit, 10 speed Road Ranger and Eaton rears. Haul a 7-G Dozer and a 6-G loader Allis Chalmers with the Astro 95 and 35ft Beaver dove tail trailer.
"In 1966 the DOT was created" and hell followed with it.

As a little 4yr old boy in 1962 I recall taking an INTEREST in BIG TRUCKS !!...I loved the Cab Overs, Fire Trucks etc... But the one truck that burned it's IMAGE in my young impressionalble mind was a 1960 Mack B61 model Dump Truck...."The Dog!"....Ahhh...Yeah !!

Drove my first truck in 1969.....and fell in love with truck driving...
The pre CDL days when Say boy reckon you can drive that truck? was a lot safer than today's tests and physicals.
This was more a 60 history lesson than a trk documentary...

I drove truck from 1972 to 2002! When I broke my back in three places! I started out with my Dad! He drove from 1930 to 1980 when his heart made him retire! I've driven Brockways, Diamond Ts, GMC Crackerboxes ,GMC Astros, Peterbilts, Kenworths, Mack's, Internationals, Whites and Freightliners! Cab Overs and Conventional! I've hauled food ( both refrigerated and dry) steel ( in a variety of forms) and other dry freight! I absolutely love your videos! It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like coming home to an old friend! I thank you!
The first of two of my uncles who have been truckers started his truck driving career in the 60's and drove until the early 2000's

When I was a little kid in the late sixties and early seventies I used to love watching the big green and white Safeway trucks drive near my home, they were non stop! The trucks today have no character 😞
It was a golden era in trucking. When the Civil Rights Act was signed into law in 1964, that barred the trucking industry from discrimination, meaning when you hire a truck driver, you cannot judge that driver on how he or she looks. You search only for the talent and that's all. In the trucking industry, Ford's H model was more of an over-the-road model of the medium duty C model tractor. Two-stick shifting was still going strong back then. Another truck that was a cabover but a medium duty truck was the White 3000. Those were sold by the thousands. Arco Oil which was an oil company bought a fleet of them.

What I just noticed was the h series ford was a c cab jacked up with a valence below it.
The 40s and 50s put out some great trucks and were great episodes but ive been dying for the 60s and upcoming episode for the 70s

I used to drive,brand new Ford W models&WTs to get fifth wheels put on them,Drove some GMC Astros as well.Bought a 60 series Chevy Coe tow truck and junked cars about 7 yrs.

My dad drove for McLean lol. His dad drove for redball and when he retired after 49 years of otr driving he was driving for celadon but he stayed with stoops for I'd say 18 years.
My dad drove and retired from Red Ball. I remember that they had terminal in Houston and a larger one in Dallas.
I just realized something about the W900 and K100
In their names the letters in the beginning I guess are supposed represent the Kenworth company itself. If you take K100 above W900 you can obvious see it spells “KW” just like what you see in the Kenworth emblem.

Trucking decades ago was a path to home ownership and the middle class now it's a dead end street ending with indentured servitude.
And yet they're always complaining they can't get enough drivers.... which is BS! They could get all the drivers they want if they'd treat them right. But instead, they burn through 100 Ukrainians, Mexicans, Pakistanis or whatever because they can treat them like shit and the fucking government lets them!
Sooooooooo many cabovers........ I miss them, but I don't ;)
You'll not want to miss then these days even the most common models upwards to $60,000+ Factory Restored with Modern Upgrades etc.
Those were like climbing a tree getting on and out.
I was hoping they might speak of the fuel tankers. Continuing my research. (I'm researching fuel tank testing that some OTR truckers had to do, and I don't know if this is for an underground tank or tanker trailer. but in the 1960s without PPE, it could make the driver sick.)

Back in the days when the length limit was shorter & the weight limit was lighter here in the USA🇺🇸, cabover semis were the king of the roads.

Hon, you need to work on your pronunciation of some of the words used in your script/ narrative, for instance: the word "mores", referring to the basic moral standards for a society, or as referenced in your script, a sociological change in the cultural, and societal norms, of a population is normally pronounced: like "more-a", or like "moray", like the aquatic eels. Work on this, and it will enhance the level of professionalism that your presentation will have. Keep up the good work with your partner 👏 👍.

May I ask what speed this trucks was able to keep on interstate? 100kmh? Just asking if there was speed limit for trucks.
You know what else might be interesting is to see if trucks were governed back then , the truck I drove ( a 1999 International ) was governed at 110 km's an hour .

110 km and 90 kms... how do you get anything done at those speeds???? my Pete will do around 177 kms per hour.
@@scottberry5266 sorry I am from Europe... 90kmh is a limit. I saw one crazy LT(lithuania) driver which did more then 160kmh. My old 1975 W115/8 2.4Diesel was doin max in table and that bitch was slighty movin faster...

Drove and old. White. Western Star conventional. tandem axle tractor for CP transport ( CP. Railroad ) Edmonton, Alberta pulling Fruehauf 48’ foot vans around. Edmonton and area. there yard and office. was Located. at 109st and Jasper Ave , I believe the truck was a 1973 or 1974 model with a. 15 over ( deep reduction) transmission and equipped with jake brake and I think the mechanic told me it 40, 000 LBs rear ends. Dayton. rims , I can’ t remember if it was CAT powered or. Cummins powered. / no power steering either ( Armstrong) I felt Like. a STAR driving. It And it was Late fall, early winter season. 1979 into 1980 / Have. a good. day. / Bill. S. Canada
